He has always made me feel deeply known, in places I didn't know I had until he touched them and wouldn't let go. Words fail me. I want very much to articulate how his music touches me, but then, if you're reading this, it most likely does the same to you.
I don't care how many times I watch this I have to fight back tears when I see the way they look at each other before they hug. Seems like a lot of love that father and daughter have found, perhaps not always so easy when Dad is a huge international star... good for them both.

I have to admit, I grew up with people who were big fans of Peter Gabriel and I heard this song as well as others, but at the time, I was just a kid who heard these songs and didn't understand the lyrics and what they meant or what was behind them. Now that I'm older, I admit I can't listen to (or watch) this without breaking down because I didn't know how bad the relationship between him and his daughter was and this song was his attempt to reconnect with her. It breaks my heart because I'm going through a similar situation with my own family: I haven't spoken to any of my blood relatives for going on 5.5yrs because I went through a nasty divorce 7 years ago and I took the high road by not talking about it or airing my dirty laundry out because it wasn't anyone else's business. When people asked I just would tell them it was a toxic relationship turned marriage and that's all I can say...I didn't go into details out of respect. Unfortunately my parents were more on my ex's side of things when it was all said and done and decided to tell my story to everyone: family, friends, and everyone in the world. Hence then my family began to judge and bombard me with a smear campaign led by own parents and then I got to the point where I couldn't (and still can't) trust them anymore not to gossip to each other about my life then or now, so I cut them all off. As much as I do wish I could talk to a few of them and maybe reconnect with them somehow or someway, I just don't see it happening because of the powerful influence & control my parents (in particular, my mom) have over the whole family...it's very cult-like and manipulative, unfortunately
Never is too late, reconsider, make another conecction, sometimes besides the family are friends alongside the road, try not no keep a bad feeling inside you, everything changes and please be happy again, regards my friend!! Hope to hear from you again, lots of goog vibes to you!!!

I admit that I have built and strengthened connections with friends since then and the beauty of the situation now is that my wife’s family has all accepted and given me love and acceptance that I craved my whole life…and I know that makes my biological family (especially parents) very upset and jealous. But I always try and tell/remind myself that that’s mostly about them and got nothing to do with me because I’m being treated and being given what they never could give me as a kid or even now
