I watch a LOT of RUclips. I have searched before for Nick's original of this song, but to no avail. Of course I know the Elvis version, I play it in solitude in my bedroom often wondering how the world got so fucked-up. Thanks fore this.
Aw…brings a tear to one's eye. Ian "Mac" McLagan was to open for Nick on his "Quality Street" tour, Dec. 2014. He died of a stroke, and Nick said such wonderful things about him on the tour. Good on ya, Nick. 'Love this version by the way.
"(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding", I think we could all take a big dose of Peace, Love and Understanding nowadays. Nick's slowed down version with Los Straitjackets makes this song more insightful and probably more relevant for today. Elvis's version is more "Protest Song Style". I love both but they almost take on a different meaning. I remember my last talk with my dad before he died. He was a 3 tour Vietnam Vet and I was about to retire after 26 years in the military. I had a pretty hard heart and held some grudges that were in retrospect useless and hurt me more than anyone else. He told me to start forgiving people regardless of who was right or wrong in my mind and move on with my life. When I play this I often think how much better my life has become because ultimately I'm the only one I can change, but I can walk out the door each day and try to be better. You have to try. Forgiveness is a powerful thing. My life is so much better now. Sure I still have bad days, but as the great Ray Wylie Hubbard said "The days I keep my gratitude above my expectations, I have pretty good days"
AMEN .!. Thank You Jeff .!. i appreciate Your Father for his service to this country , and for his shared message , today through you , from Our Father .. MGB and keep us all
The original is one of my most favourite songs, but I love what the other musicians bring to this version. It very much suits Nick in His later years. Just lovely.
I saw the Nick Lowe / Los Straitjackets show in Madison Wi last night and it was awesome! Great mix of music and fun! The opening band the Cactus Blosoms was great too!
I couldnt help but to share this to my social media...the words are lovely as well as thought provoking considering the current political state of the world.
WHOA .. yea, the political unrest today with the opening of doors to war .. NOW .. Our own US , with 18,000 children in cages on the southern border (3.31.21) and the bombing of Syria (2.2021) and the Billions of dollars in Federal and State Government buildings destroyed (2020) , not to mention the cities and livelihoods AND more than two dozen murders associated with safe zones and peaceful 'places' (2020) .. Political Unrest .. I see it as dis ease .. a social dis ease .. MGB and keep us all
Those are the same glasses Buddy Holly wore, and the same model of Gibson acoustic guitar Buddy played on many of his hits. A wonderful way to pay tribute to one of his heroes.
Same style. The Glasses are in Clear Lake, IA, where the plane crashed. They were only recently recovered out of the field. They are now in The Surf Ball Room.
Paul Burch and Jack Silverman sang off Jim Ridley with this song in a Murfreesboro church one day in 2016. The beauty of their gesture, and of the service altogether, will stay with me for the rest of my days.
So him play his show at a comedy club/restaurant place in san francisco about 1984 with only table seating like 2 or 3 to a table.he had a band with Paul carrok from Mike and the mechanics .he just had some hits too so they shared taking lead voals.great.he was really loud rocking out and super skinny.probably just fast metabolism.lol
Beautiful. One of the greatest songs ever. Dislikes are you kidding?
This the song I every hear for long time he should get a Grammy for this.
Those dislikes are from the dark side of insanity.
@@chocloditelensman Surely everyone wearing a mask should get a big like?

I have played this version 20 times this week. Nick Lowe & Los Straight Jackets... trying to learn it on my ukelele. It's perfect.
I just played it on my ukulele, in open C tuning but key of G. It works really well. How's yours sound?
Boy do we need this now! Summer 2022. Crazy times. 😢
Ditto from 2024

Elvis may have made this song well known, but it's Nick's song. His versions are great!!
My very thought exactly. And this is his own to perform so beautifully!
I like the way Nick does this better.

What a great anthem for a new 18-24 party. Absolutely beautiful melody. So simple and sincere and, sadly, forever relevant. .
Excellent!!

A brilliant song also written with the fabulous Ian Gomm
I think Gomm co-wrote Cruel to Be Kind not this song???
executivesteps he wrote both with Nick Lowe but Nick got full credit
Beauty of a rendition. (who would downvote this?)
This has been my theme song since 1974 at age 10...
A song for the ages.
I couldnt help but to share this to my social media...the words are lovely as well as thought provoking considering the current political state of the world.
Couldn't have put it any better myself. Beautiful song
Yup.

Light and airy rhythm section, with Nick's sweet voice on top. Soooo tasty!
One of the best songs ever❤ Watch out our (Stunde x)version !
The strongest of Melody Maker!
Mr.Nick Lowe is the best-looking old man! Bat he is cool though he was young. from japan
NIKKE0725 I see your Japan and raise you three Audrey Hepburns and the Comoros Islands.
Los Staitjackets and Nick Lowe. A dichotomy that created something new. Rockula is cruel to be kind
A Million Little Things, brought me here. I love this version.
Glad you found us! Thanks for watching. If you enjoy Nick Lowe, we recently filmed an entire concert: ruclips.net/video/SFIOlgwjdzc/видео.html

Thanke Nick!
This, the Elvis Costello version and the Sharon van Etten/Joshua version are all worth listening to. Folksy, rock and whimsy....
