This canal isn't just for tiny Narrowboats like ours! It was constructed to take big commercial ships and fortunately one still does the trip from Hull to Rotherham - just keep your eyes open if it goes past you!
We also explain what happened since our last vlog and how we're moving forward and a certain ancient mariner takes a tumble!
Thank you everyone for commenting and showing your love and support. XX

Thanks so much Phillip. Stay safe and have a lovely week. Catch you on the next one 👍
So good to hear that THE BOAT is sorted and you are back to cruising. Always enjoy your videos. Hello from Delaware USA.
Hello there and thank you ❤️
Glad you got every thing sorted out. Good vlog with some nice views and interesting places. Stay safe happy cruising
Thank you Sid 👍
Have a great week.
Hi guys
Glad to see cruising again and the boat is now all repaired
Looking forward to seeing the next video
👍👍👍
Thank you Ronald! Much appreciated.
Hope you like heights...we're up at Conisbrough next time 👍
The area that had been flattened and put the houses on at Doncaster where you said there were rings for mooring was the old international harvesters tractor site that had been there for 50 years plus hope this helps
Thank you for the information. Couldn't find anything about that area. Always grateful for local knowledge 👍
Maybe a video where you sample every kind of cheese at that cheese store! You guys rock, thank you for the trip.
Yeah, definitely, we could do that! 🤣
Mind you, we can tell you that the Christmas Dinner one wasn't *that* good if we're being honest. Had quite a peppery aftertaste...
I am so glad you were able get the boat fixed and on your way. The video was very enjoyable as usual. Take care and be happy
Thanks so much Fran, such a relief for us to be back cruising again 👍
I am so glad to hear the insurance sorted everything, your home is fixed and you are out and about again. And to those criticizing your helmsmanship - it was not your fault. And even professional captains make mistakes, if someone says he doesn‘t he‘s lying. Keep up the good work and keep on vlogging. Oh - and that green stuff is pennywort. Another narrowboating couple I follow went along a canal which was absolutely choked with it. Best wishes ❤ from Germany 🇩🇪
Thank you Gabriel for the lovely comments. 👍❤️
Been there and done the fall into the water...we were up on the peak forest canal in freezing conditions, took me days to dry out my husbands stinking clothes and the bruises were still coming out weeks later!! Glad you have closure on the lock incident, wishing you a warm xmas ahead, thanks for all this years vlogs, i am having a back op in 3 weeks time so will look forward to watching more while i am recovering!!! Take it easy, xxx
Hi Lynette ❤️
No fun falling in, especially when it's freezing cold water!
Sending you our love for a successful op.🫠
Next vlog in two weeks as usual and you can join us up Conisbrough Castle from the comfort of your bed. ❤️
It was Great meeting you guys (quite a few times)on the Don and SYN glad you finally got The Boat sorted out. And that Ruddy Barnby Dun lift bridge, being single handed it takes 10mins to do, by that time about 70 vehicles have built up, I always get a bit of verbal😂 normally from white van man, anyways enjoy whats left of 2023 after having your summer ruined.
Hi Mark and thank you!
Have great respect for you single boaters - so much more to think about and plan ahead, can quite understand how lift bridges, especially that one, can cause a few issues.
Have a great week and may catch up again! 👍
Great to see you back on the cut. I think you will both need bigger trousers eating those cheesecakes hahaha. I wish I knew you were in Sheffield as I would have come down to Sheffield wharf and said hello with a pint or two. Take care both 👍
Thank you Steve.❤️
Can't move very far, or fast with all those cheese sandwiches, cakes and the like!
Vlogs are always a few weeks out although we do sometimes post more recent stuff on our social media pages if you're on any of them.
Catch you next time 👍
Glad your both OK. What a thing to happen. Be safe out there. Love from us all
Thank you Gareth 👍❤️ love to you too ❤️
Very pleased you've got the boat right that's the main thing, The last time we were in that area was about 2008 and there was a power station by the New Junction canal and I also remember a large new vehicle storage by the canal after Barnby Dun. Great vlog take care.😊
Thanks Robert.
Looks like a few things have changed since you were in the area. I suspect more new houses are in the pipeline. On the plus side they'll have a great waterside view!
Carry on boating 😮
👍
Me and my wife, has just recently filmed west Stockwith basin. It's on our channel. U both do some great vids 👍👍
Thank you both! We'll check it out 👍
Some people are just so insensitive and down right rude. I'd ignore them and don't think about their dumb comments. They weren't there and they DON'T KNOW. Glad you folks and your vessel are ok. Take care and travel safe.
Thank you Sandi, appreciate the support 👍❤️
Is pennywort they a lot off it on the canals all the best for now 😊
Cheers Suzanne, certainly a lot round here!
Barnby Dunn, is near my brothers place,
We really like Barnby Dun. A good friend of ours parents live there and we met there last time we moored up. Hadn't seen each other for 30 years!
Pennywort
Horrible stuff Colin!
Jan and Tony so glad your home is repaired and you are both well. Safe cruising
Thank you ❤️
As ever great vlog. Great to see your view of so many places I know well. I know a couple who moor at kirk Bramwith (Rob and Linda) friends of the family. Would be great to buy a round of drinks when you're next at West Stockwith. Take care. 😊
Cheers Bill - pint of IPA and a Pinot please 🤣
Great video.. Loved watching so pleased The Boat is all fixed... I want cheese now 😂
Thank you Janet ❤️ So many cheeses to choose from (that's not easy to say after half a shandy!) and the grilled sandwich was heavenly...could have had two 😉
Well hello! We spotted a handsome couple supping at Strawberry Island Marina 😉
Did you Paul....? Who was that I wonder 🤔🤣🤣🤣
Cheers! 🍻
Glad to you both live and well with the boat springing like it could have been worse glad everything is sorted enjoyed the vblog seeing the cake I will honestly say after fish and chips I would not be able to walk past the cakes so many to look at see you next time 😊😊😊
Cheers Kevin 👍
I honestly don't know how we walked past those cakes without going in and buying one. However the cheese sandwich was a worthy choice!
So enjoyed this vlog. Glad everything now sorted for you and you can relax again. All that food and excellent market ! My sort of day out😀
Thank you so much Elizabeth, your support means a lot to us ❤️
Think we were quite restrained going past all those cakes...😉
So happy to see that you were able to get your boat sorted and are back to cruising. Really enjoy your videos and wish you both well with the storms, flooding and colder weather coming up.
Thanks so much! The floods are definitely keeping us on our toes!
Glad you're sorted now and boat wasn't damaged to bad. As you now know the weed is 'Penny Wort' which is a non British native. If you get it around you're propelled in can take an age and a lot of cursing to get rid off. It is believed to have been imported by overseas vessels visiting our shores, how true that is I'm unsure. Look forward to seeing more of Doncaster and Jan's hairy legs.
Take care.
Thank you David. Pennywort has been a pain all around the waterways. It caused a stoppage last month when it completely blocked a lock. Diggers had to come in and haul it out of the water.
I had just found you, I am sorry you had some adverse comments! There is always one who could have done better! I speak from experience! The last holiday on the Broads we were looking for a berth for the night. We came across an inlet with boats moored on either sides. Unfortunately there was nothing free, and it was actually a dead end. After a bit of humming and Harring my husband said it looked as though there was a bit of turning point and because it was too difficult and too far to reverse he decided to try that ! After a bit of manoeuvring my husband decided that was a no go. Fortunately a very kind experienced boater offered to reverse for us. He did extremely well and he jumped off our boat onto his, except he didn’t, the boats drifted apart and he fell in, when he surfaced all he said was ‘whoops’ As we got on to the main river we noticed a hardly visible sign at the entrance to the inlet ‘ Unsuitable for craft over 30 feet, our boat was 38 !’ NUff sed!, We can’t all be Nelson can we?
Hi and thank you for finding us, hope you find the vlogs interesting and entertaining, we certainly enjoy making them!
Great story thanks for sharing. We used to love the Broads but found moorings sometimes difficult to come by. Have a great week!
Nice to see you up and about again Jan n Tony after the re fit , Hanging around in my home town of Doncaster , its nice to see it from the canals point of view . Love the video's , keep em coming ❤
Thank you so much, its great to be back out again.
Loved Doncaster and the markets 👍
Those bridges can be done much quicker if you only raise it just as much as you need to rather than raising it all the way up. Saves the big traffic hold up at Barnby Dunn. The sam applies to all the New Junction lift bridges.
We've got a good system going Michael. I get as close to the bridge as I safely can whilst Jan's raising it so I can slip through when it's high enough.
So far, no angry drivers 👍
heart bracking watching this but great news u got things sorted xxxx
Thank you 👍
Goodness how awful ! Thank goodness you are both unhurt, and the outside of the boat is OK. So sorry this happened to you both.
Thank you. 👍 All sorted now and put it all behind us.
Another great vlog!
Thanks again Brigid ❤️
Where the high wall and chains were was I.C.I Fibres.
Thanks Dennis!
Are you moored at Barnby dun if so I just passed you 👍
😉
Great to see you both cruising again, and back to your happy selves,Ive asked for the Olympic Diving selection commitee to come and check Tonys dives,(Only joking Tony),so glad you wasnt hurt badly, take care both of you,and Happy Cruisin`
🤣 I think I'm more likely a contender for the fosbury flop...or a depth charge because I went straight down 🤣
Stay safe and have a lovely week. 👍
Nice to see you in my neck of the woods
Love Yorkshire ❤️ Full of friendly, helpful people, we've definitely fallen for it 👍
Where rings where that was Internatioal Harvesters tractor factory and a tug with about 40 Twenty ton tubs used to use that feed the power station where the prison is now I am afraid you have missed the thriving town Doncaster once was.So sad.
Ref: vlog 128. Thank you for sharing, and even though it was a "headache" for both of you, you came through it - safe and sound. I hope that the insurance covered all your costs. Enjoy your travels on the canals :)
Thank you 👍
Just glad you and boat are all ok hope you have many peaceful miles love watching your videos keep on chugging
Thanks Stephen 👍
Glad everything is sorted out. Enjoy your fish and chips. Today we have had a weather warning. Saying in 14 day's we will have snow and ice storms. So take care 5th November today for me. Love watching you both 😍😍😍
😯No Karen, not snow and ice!! We're only just getting over rain and flooding!!!
Might need more chips...🤣
Thanks for watching, have a great week 👍
Very good to hear that you claim, and those issues are done and dusted, and you are still smiling at life. 👍
It's the only way Paul 👍 cheers and have a great week.
Being German I anyhow like the phrase "you are still smiling at life."! That is something to stick to along the way! Thanks for that one!
Hi Tony and Jan, so pleased the boats all done and your off cruising again. Nice to see an area of the waterways I’ve not seen much of before. Doncaster looked like it was worth a visit too. Looking forward to next weeks vlog, love a castle 👍 have a great weekend
Thanks Paul. Yes we throughly enjoyed our time in and around Doncaster, some lovely views along the waterways.❤️
Castle and lots of steep steps in the next one...😉
Great to see you both back on the water again; home restored, Jan smiling 😊 and Tony . . . just being Tony 😅. That barge made the narrowboat look like a Dinky toy!! Stay safe (preferably out of the water!), take care and happy cruising till the next vlog.
Glad you enjoyed it thank you Jill ❤
All the best take care be safe
Thank you Mark 👍 You too!
I could see your preferred mooring gone the second that bridge opened... it's Murphy's law in action!!.❤️🇬🇧
It became our regular mooring that year. Lovely place as it had everything - shops, water and elsan.
pennywort weed.
That's the one 👍
