Well, Bryan, your steadiness of hand is impressive. I know few hams (unless career CETs or "hands-on" EEs with good eyesight) who will tackle this. Really helps to see the skills and equipment required for a good result. If I tried this (with or without the proper equipment), I'd expect new (additional) marks on the wall where such projects hit and splatter 😃
Hey Bryan, nice instructional video. Do you know anything about the mainboard on these military units, specifically the top tx/rx green/red LED? I noticed they are missing. I wonder if they were removed or never installed at the factory and if the circuit is still live and can be activated by simply installing the Panasonic LED?
Hi, I have an XTS2500. Its RX/TX indicator is missing, I have soldered the LED and everything is ok. But my backlight has not worked. I measured the voltage of BL_EN, it has not changed at all. Do you know the reason? Thank you
hola excelentes tus videos. como puedo desbloquear una xts 2500, compre una radio pero no puedo ingresar frecuencias ni modificar nada. necesito ayuda soy de Chile. gracias
I have the same radio with the same dim backlights. Could I buy a standard key board (XTS2500 III) without encryption on it and install it to make the backlights bright? If so would it have to be flashed again since last flash included Q667: ADP Software Encryption? Thanks for the video!
So have you had experience with the pressure testing? I've got a XTS5000 with the same wanted to test it for the water rating but I am not sure what fittings I need.
Hello, I 'm asking your help to buy these XTS5000 stations in America, XTL5000, to them wires under whom port, now I collect the old system technician for work with these stations, I appeal to you to the professional of my business, as I do not know anything myself and I will only begin to get into work with this iron, We need programs and firmware for them those of the last, and there may also be topics to read about them. Yours faithfully. Timofey.
Bryan Ah, cool. Do you have any good places to buy them? Or do you have any for sale? I have been looking for one for a couple of months(since around October) and I haven’t been able to find exactly what I want.
kjl13, i don’t sell radios to hams anymore. I like hacking stuff, and dont have time for it. I did a bunch of duplexers on eBay back some time ago and had no less than two hams try to scam me, or 15% of sales. It took multiple calls, hours on the phone and via email to prove I was on the level. It’s no longer fun.
@@W9CR Well, I am a ham but I don't need an amateur repeater. I don't do too much ham stuff anymore. If you can ever possibly get me a qantar, I'd be very interested. I have been looking around but not found something that is what I want.

Dance like no one is watching and don’t be afraid to break shit!
Awesome video, I hadn't realized the crypto module was on the keypad board. I've been working with these more and more. It's a great series of radios.
They are over priced junk. Go with a 5000 or APX line.
Do you provide service to others to fix these? I do not possess the skill nor the patients to do this, but the dim backlights drive me nuts!
does it matter which direction the X on the large ribbon is pointing. or what board it should be connected to. thank?
@Bryan can i send you the crypto board from my xts2500 to do this? Its driving me nuts not having any light on the LCD or keypad.
Nice work. I can prob handle this!
FYI at 10:25 your cell phone is bleeding into your audio recording…

It's not placed on the board. Just solder one on and go. If you get it upside-down red/green will be reversed.

@Bryan have you ever done the SMA? They are notorious for breaking off over time on these.
Like replacing it? Yes, it's not hard at all, just reflow it, and replace it.
thanks for the awesome help and info.

I have the same question, have you gotten any answers somewhere?
@@donjennings2975 No answers yet but I bought a new key board but I haven't gotten around to installing it yet. Key boards are available on ebay.
@@121AHCRvn Did you ever do this? successful?
@@ShootyScooty No I never got a chance to try it. My radio died.

No I have not done that, not much reason for ham radio.

can you just swap the keypad with a unencrypted model keypad?
where's the fun in that?
@@W9CR I would have more use for the light. Because theres no way could I do what you did. Or do you sell these modded keypads?
So it actually works, swapping the keypad for the nonencrypted type. finding them is not so easy. But you also lose the encryption.
Second video in a good amount of time, do you still do quantar stuff?
Yea, still running them. Been messing with some comparators lately.
