Ryan did however make a fairly significant misplay at 7:27. Since Anje untaps when you discard a card, the untap trigger resolves before the draw a card does. This means that Ryan could have tapped Anje discarding fiery temper instead of hard casting it. This would have meant he would have been able to draw an extra card, and saving 1R mana. With him having gamble in hand and having drawn a fair amount of cards at this point, i would almost assume that he could have threatened a win that turn, had he made this small change in his play.
@@wirakirros7281 I think they’ve just been wanting to run more win cons cause only one world gorger and a few reanimation spells can be stopped so easily
I’ve been playing Jorn since he came out - he might not be the best stax commander, but he’s certainly the best stasis commander. It was hard to watch anje have all the answers this game. Loved to see it played though!
@@seancarhart2545 With revolutionist being a card, both Comet storm (and similar cards) and Shuffletitans (such as kozilek) has become redundant, and a "waste" of a space in the deck, you can either cast revoloutionist for its cost / madness cost or reanimate it after getting infinite mana and then loop it with WGD or cloudstone to continously return damage spells to your hand and cast them to kill your opponents.
I nust say I was impressed with the NON Worldgorger win. He had to tutor for a lot more pieces, but it was definitely, definitely more fun to watch. Kudos, sir!
I'm building an Anje deck right now. It's more jank that anything at this point but this hyped me up to build a competitive version😤. Thank you for the video 😁
I liked all the characters, the narrative of the video was easy to follow and made perfect sense, and the ending didn't disappoint me at all. 1/10, nothing like Game of Thrones. (but seriously a good video - always like seeing more unusual commanders like Anje and Jorn and especially love seeing Narset and High Tide Baby Jace at a table again, that was great nostalgia for older cEDH times XD)
Does anyone know if someone has done an Innistrad Vampire family Commander vs yet (Falkenraths vs Stromkirks, etc)? Because if not, that sounds like a really fun game to make.
If Cal needed 4 mana, he had it. As spellseekeer is sol ring 1 island. High tide is 1 island, 2 islands untapped. Tap island for 2 mana play high tide, 1 floating and last island taps for 3
Except there were no dragons in the deck. Like he had Kozilek just to shuffle gy. He could've easily play like a bogardan hellkite (in place of Kozilek) to achieve the same win con. Or just go the traditional Worldgorger loop.
I freaking love theme episodes. I’ve wanted to get a Jorn Snow alter for so long. Awesome job guys, and I was sorry to hear about Ian leaving the podcast :(
Anje would have untapped from the ravagers already with the draw trigger on the stack and then he could've discarded fiery temper to cast it for its madness cost right? Would have probably saved him a turn
Me as main anje commander in my decks, i believe that Ryan was piloting the deck under the power, unless he already have some of the combo pieces already in hand, normally you dig throught your deck during rival turn end step before your turn if you know that the next card doesnt untap anje unless you need a fast answer, with all probability Ryan maybe has more knowledge of magic than me, but i had to say it.
Doing Anje on your turn provides you with more resources (like sorcery speed cards), and allows for things like Wheel of Fortune to throw away lands and empty cards and keep going. Anje on end step is fine, but more narrow, as you only really have something like Shadow of the Grave to keep you going. As someone who's piloted Anje for a long time, I've tried both ways, and this way leads to more wins.
Does Ryan actually get a draw after terminal agony there? I know madness is funky but I'm pretty sure anjes ability+notion thiefs effect would resolve first.
since discarding is a cost, it happens before the ability resolves. this means that madness discards into exile and triggers while anje's ability is still on the stack, so ryan can cast it and have it resolve before he draws
I would love to see the anje list, my friend is playing anje and argues that the deck needs 34 lands and im sure thats way too much. Is the list open information?
I'm unsure how the finish plays out. Anje's draw rummaging is non deterministic and stops when she can't draw into a madness card. I think this bears playing out.
The true question is : Why remove the Notion Thief and not throw a Curse of Fool's Wisdom on its controller just to make them choke on all their card draw ? :P
Jorn is pronounced "Yeorn." Too late now but for future videos :) At least this is how it's pronounced in the Icelandic (Vikings), which is what Khaldheim is supposed to represent.
Mike tried to play control while playing Stax. Every single time he countered something, he king-made the other people in turn order. People really need to stop playing Stax and just play turbo decks, there's no point in trying to interact that hard unless you're helping your own win condition. i.e. Rashmi, Vial Smasher, etc etc. Further supporting this, Narset doesn't have haste, and has to survive a full turn rotation with 2 other people being given the "unus of interaction." By making this play, you give the players after him card advantage in a very wierd way. The easiest way to describe it is that if you use a counterspell, at best, you go one for one-- which in commander is terrible because now that's one less thing for your opponents to worry about-- and now, in turn order, each player ahead of the person you interacted with is now in a better position, so unless Narset wins the game THAT turn, you just hold the interaction. If you enjoy playing control, just play Curious Control, Rashmi, Nymris, Sygg etc. and just go all in on Control. Stax just ISN'T goood in cEDH, and can only serve to help people on a less proactive strategy, because atleast if you make tempo plays, you draw cards, refill your hand and don't give your opponents card advantage.
The Notion Thief plays were insane and Ryan dealing with it was just as crazy
You could say, it was madness

@@SpejderIdioterne Thats very true. I don't know if that would have changed anything about the game, but it's possible.
I was waiting that whole game for the anje player to do the world gorger combo but burning everyone out with a 4 damage burn spell is really funny
Worldgorger would actually fit the theme better too.... i don't know what to feel about that.

She didn’t have hexproof on the stack. Only when it resolves and is on the battlefield.
