If I were an EV manufacturer and found out the government is handing out $7500 gift cards, I would raise the price of an EV by...you guessed it...$7500! It's like when pizza places give out coupons, but raise the prices, so it doesn't really do anything other than catch people's attention.
Fuck that. Remove all taxes, introduce a poll tax. Everyone pays to vote and the winners decide how that money gets distributed. Don't want to contribute? Don't vote. No coercion, no problem.
They forgot the super-cheap but largely impractical entry-level Chinese EVs that rich people get practically free after the subsidy and only use as toys, condo cruisers, etc.
We threw out these in Ontario Canada because the tax credit on EV only could be put onto the high-end ev cars. Hell there was one story of people with the 918 Porsche million dollar hyper car and the mclaren p1 million dollar hyper car actually getting the tax credits. We threw them away asap. They also incentives companies to keep prices high cause they know the government will make the cars cheaper.
Do you understand how tax credits work? A tax credit means less of that persons money is taken by the government. It doesn't mean that money is taken from another tax payer to give to that person.
@@username65585 Exactly, Username. You're the only other person who understands what tax credit is. All these doofuses think it's a subsidy. It is not! Thanks for trying to set these knuckleheads straight.
@@username65585 as a gen z, it's unfair for older generations to leave all their debt to me. We need austerity. If gen x wants to live like the Swedes, they should pay ridiculous taxes like them, and not expect me to pay for it.
Taxation is theft, so tax credits should be considered a good thing for liberty. It's those upper middle class people who aren't paying more, but that doesn't mean that Tom is paying for the credit. It's just the federal government getting less of the wealthier person's income at tax time.
@@garrettlees No! Exactly wrong. A tax credit is like getting an envelope full of cash (except that there is a record of the payment). If you owe $7500 in tax and have paid no estimated tax payments, you will need to send the IRS $7500 . If you bought an electric car and qualified for the $7500 tax credit, the credit would count the same as if you had paid $7500 in estimated tax. Your $7500 tax bill would be paid. That $7500 comes at the expense of all the suckers who paid their own tax bills. It is a subsidy. However; the EV Tax credit is good for only as much as tax you owe.
The prices listed on screen were really far off. M3 is like 40k, model x only gets tax credit if it’s under 80k. Sedans have to be under 60k I think (may be 55k). The maximum price a car can be and still have this tax credit is 80k flat out.
LMFAO!! This is hilarious and gets the msg across affectively. And this is why that tax incentive has been officially CANCELLED in the US by Trump, and up here in the province of Ontario (our tax incentive prgm is provincial, not fed), our glorious new Conservative Premier, Doug Ford, has axed the prgm. Ontario was subsidizing $14,000!!!! Thing is, avg FAMILY income in Ontario is ONLY $74,000/yr, which is a mesely $37,000/yr per person working. When u consider our min wage is $14/hr, or $29,000/yr, that's nothing. Then consider the avg cost of a Tesla at around $60,000 for the cheapest one. I bought a van for $33,000 and mthly pmts were $600, and that was a lease NOT purchase. So $60K would be $1200/mth!! The ONLY ppl buying these vehicles are RICH/WEALTHY folk! Most ppl pay that amt (or bit higher) for rent for the place they LIVE, not for what they use to get from point A to point B. Even WITH the $14K rebate, at $60K that only drops it $46K, which is still unaffordable. My hubby had an aquaintance friend who bought one bc the other car he wanted was the same price, but no rebate, and being a rich/wealthy douche, he'd rather have the avg pleb who can barely put food on the table for his family, to foot HIS bill. And he even said it had NOTHING to do w/ NOT being able to afford it otherwise, it's that the gov was incentivizing him to buy to the "hottest new toy". We no lngr talk to this douche. Oh, I forgot to mention, this guy's parents are BOTH surgeons! His father is a top-notch brain surgeon!! THAT IS WHO we, the hard-working folk, are subsidizing these ultra-expensive cars for.
These tax credits for EV are the only time I disagreed with Remy. Yes, Tesla makes cars for upper middle class and above, but giving those people a tax break is not the point. The point is to inspire the car industry to embrace EV tech since tax credits help them sell their cars by undercutting competition. For instance, Chevy bolt and volt became competitive only with the tax breaks in place. Nissan leaf became insanely popular once it became more affordable, long term, than any other small car in the segment. So yes, the tesla buyers did not need the tax break, but reasonably priced vehicles for average joes were bought much more enthusiastically by frugal shoppers that did their math. Weather we like it or not, combustion engines have to follow the steam engines and make an appearance strictly in physics/engineering textbooks and museums. Oh and before someone tries to lecture me on how poorly the green industry is doing at the moment: I am well aware. Just keep in mind that until tech catches up, much of green sector will seem uncompetitive. This is the price of admission for all new adoptions.
If he can't afford a car, he probably isn't paying any tax anyway. It's the people like me that make a middle class income yet can't afford anything newer than a 17 year old car that gets screwed
Okay... this might not be too libertarian of me, but wouldn't be a bit better for Congress to approve percentages to the various departments and let the cabinet members (department heads) work up an actual budget with that. It seems the people running the departments would know better how to divvy up the money. And because Congress is still controlling how much each department gets, it's still in voter's hands (sorta). Then we only need to link it to actual tax revenues and we have a functioning government (haha) with actual budgets. Think that would work? Or am I missing something?
Sounds pretty reasonable to me. There would still be shadiness and corruption no doubt but it seems like it would be toned down quite a bit since it wouldn't be crammed into a bill at the last second.
A credit of not paying taxes that he shouldn't have to pay in the first place. With a progressive tax John has paid for way more stuff for other people.
I am addicted to Remy too! About this video's message...like appeals from the left and from the Bible prophets, it appeals to a sense of unfairness, which is fair...but this can also lead me to anger that clouds my judgement about what really helps Tom in Ohio...so there is another side to this. Can we see that giving the rich kids incentives to spend their money actually helps good old Tom in Ohio, too? I should be able to see that, even if I think it's on balance a bad idea. If I can't see the benefits to Tom here, then how will I be able to accept and promote an even "riskier" and even more rewarding free trade situation without these subsidies and tarriffs?
May have different solutions but something I feel both the true right and true left agree on.. handout the rich and powerful do not need them for sure!!! I love almost every one of these videos but this one is a little lopsided about tom - Tom is paying for this person to get a tesla - absolutely unfair. It is just as unfair for the rich person to send Tom's kids to school, pay for Tom's kids after school activities, Tom's welfare check, Tom's kids uncollected college loan etc. EVERYONE should pay the exact same dollar amount. If everyone paid the exact same amount and could only BENEFIT the same amount - e.g. Tom sends 1 kid to school and can't use roads or the police or Rich person uses the roads and the police but doesn't get the tesla or a free education for his kids - you can be sure every citizen would suddenly care about how their government spends money and perhaps stop breeding because it is a right. OH I have so much unconditional love to give - OK - you can adopt - no, I want me own kids - wouldn't that make your love conditional? Well what about the people who can't afford to pay that amount in taxes - NO problem at all - public works program - build damns, build forest trenches to prevent forest fire spreading, fill sand bags for flood zones, pick up litter, clean up crap in the road from the homeless - that will motivate the hell out of a person to work harder at private sector jobs. I got promoted to assistant manager at 3 part time jobs I had before I even got my degree - it doesn't require a higher education to move up, just effort.
