This original song was all rap. Hua came up with this completely new arrangement in 2 days. He added the Chinese opera, intro and rock elements. He's an incredible song writer and arranger. The episode of the Singer he did this song shows Hua fishing from his apt. balcony for several days trying to arrange this song in his head. Suddenly he got the idea to add Chinese opera 2 days before the show aired. P.S. Hua didn't catch any fish. Hua said he didn't care because he just enjoys the experience of fishing. Catching fish is not important. Hua's unique philosophies on life are numerous in interviews.

That moment when the choir comes up and he makes the transition to the chinese opera part is my favourite moment as well, with him surrendering to the audience ❤️ When they were recording the choir he tormented those poor music students telling them to sing without skills and not using any special register (many of them were in bel canto mode hahahaha). He kept them in the studio until he got the recording that he wanted, stating that even if people won't be noticing any difference, he needs to meet his own standard. That camera angle added to the magic and that's how that the special moment was created....

All of his songs are in Chinese but have been translated so just do a search that includes the words "English Sub" so that you can follow along. Hua's appeared on Episode 4 - 14 of Singer 2018.

The only song whose lyrics were written by him is 'why nobody fights' and the whole song has one sentence of lyrics, which is the same as the title LOL. 2. 'Nunchucks' is not his first performance on Singer 2018. The first one is 'Qi Tian', a song composed by him, also highly recommended!

On Singer 2018 show, the first song he sang was "Qi Tian" he wrote for the movie "Wu kong/Monkey king". It was the first time I saw his performance and I was completely shocked. oh my god, i forgot the “Hua Chenyu English Sub” channel who posted the Fake Monk pre-stage interview was taken down and hasn’t re-upload the video since. but I guess I’m going to give you the story behind Fake Monk performance then :) Hua Chenyu, was born in a privileged and wealthy family. But when he was very young, his parents got divorced and he got to live with his father. Growing up was tough for hua, because even though he has basically everything, he was so lonely. His father, who’s an executive has to go on business trips and always so busy, he ignored Hua. Young huahua, always craved for his father’s attention. He tried to do well at school, he longed for his father to praise and compliment him, but his father never even glanced at him. So he shut everyone down, he so badly wanted to be loved but he rejected the love, afraid of getting himself hurt. And music was his way of expressing his loneliness, heartbreak, and emotions. He would locked himself in his room in the dark, and create lyric less dark songs and melodies that expressed what he was feeling. That continued for years, until the age of 23, when Hua competed in a singing competition called Superboy, his father opened up and complimented him. His father didn’t deny doing those, he admitted his fault. But for the first time he actually said the reason why he ‘neglected’ young Huahua. He said he wants Hua to be able to make decisions purely on his own. And they’ve been building a nice father and son relationships ever since. In Fake Monk performance, Hua is giving us a peak of his true self. The music that he still creates to this day, but prefer to keep them hidden. The dark soul he has. In this performance, he’s portraying his younger self, to sending out the messages to the audience not to forget about their loved ones. You can see the desperation, the loneliness, the urge to scream on top of your lungs because you can’t hold it anymore. All there in one performance alone. And I really hope you would see it.

The part he sings like female is traditional Chinese Beijing opera. Back then, all the female characters in Beijing opera were performed by males. That’s why he sings like that. I love how he combined many different styles.
