The Jammu-Sialkot line was a 43 km (27 mi) broad gauge branch of the North Western State Railway from Wazirabad Junction, Punjab, to Jammu, passing through the Sialkot Junction. The section from Sialkot to Jammu (Tawi) was 27 miles (43 km) long, partly in the British Indian province of Punjab and partly in the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. Built in 1890 during the reign of Maharaja Pratap Singh, it was the first railway line in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The railway line ran till 18 September 1947, when the newly independent Pakistan, which inherited the North Western State Railway from British India, suspended the train service. The railway line fell into disrepair. A new line between Pathankot and Jammu was built by Indian Railways in 1972.
The Jammu-Sialkot line was constructed as an extension of the Wazirabad-Sialkot line built in 1883-1884, at the initiative of the Maharaja's government.[10][11] Maharaja Ranbir Singh (r. 1830-1885) wrote to the Governor General of India with a proposal offering to fund its construction, which was agreed. He was soon succeeded by Maharaja Pratap Singh, who continued the negotiations culminating in an agreement. The agreement stipulated that the railway would be operated by the North Western Railway, that the Maharaja would receive one per cent interest on the investment and that the earnings in excess of the one per cent would be shared equally between the Northwestern Railway and the Maharaja's government for 5 years, subject to a fresh agreement after the expiry of the term. The Maharaja's investment was close to Rs. 1 million[14] (1.3 million according to other accounts. However, this clause was cancelled in the supplementary agreement, and the Punjab section of the line was funded by Government of India instead.
The construction was carried out between 1888-1890. It is reported that the section of the railway in Punjab was laid with 60 lbs. second-hand wrought iron rails but the Jammu and Kashmir section was laid with 75 lbs. new steel rails.

Jammu-Sialkot Railway Line - Pre Independence Times Before Partition , Dera Baba Nanak was a very important , Highway / Railway line ( with its Railway Cum Road bridge over River Ravi ) linking Delhi /Amritsar / Jullundur routes with another strategic town - Sialkot. From Sialkot the Highway split- to Jammu and via Muzaffarabad ( Jhelum Road to Srinagar . The main highway connecting Jammu and Srinagar ran through Sialkot and Muzzafarabad . From Sialkot , a narrow gauge train ran ( Via Ranbir Singh Pura ) to Jammu. Old Jammu station ( in derelict condition ) stills exists on the Right Bank of River Tawi. When , broad gauge railway line was built by India to Jammu , the new Railway station ( on the Left Bank of the River Tawi ) was named Jammu Tawi

Shukriya Baig Sahab. God bless you for refreshing my memories from eight years old kid. My parents sent me, my bother and his wife to Jammu for safety reasons. We departed fro Sialkote for Jammu, but the train got derailed because of terrorists. But the memory brought tears. There was a cinema hall across railway station where my father used to watch movies without buying ticket because of his position. I have faint memories. But, my thanks are very much vivid. God bless you.
The Nanda Bus Service at Sialkot Railway Station was owned by the family of Shri Gulzari Lal Nanda , who was Prime Minister of India later. Similar Sarai existed across Tawi river for passengers stay near old Jammu station. The water hose for filling water into railway bogeys exists in the old Jammu railway station premises. Delapidated station buildings exist in ruins at RS Pura. Blog by Baig Sahib is made with great pains, sentiments and efforts.

Nice video, Baig Saab...Small Correction: The Sialkot-Jammu line didn't go to Jammu Tawi station. It went to Jammu station (Now abandoned). Post-1947, a new alignment to Jammu was needed, and was created through Pathankot and Chakkibank. This line goes through Jammu Tawi station. It was named Jammu Tawi, to distinguish it from the older Jammu station

Nice video. Nostalgic. You r perfectly sentimental to that era when everything was united. Perhaps in your other video you talked about Nanda Bus service. Gujari lal Nanda who had been a prime minister of India after the sad demise of erstwhile p m of India belonged to Sialkot and the said bus service was run by his forefather .
India should first take strong initiative to open jammu Sialkot train and also open roads between Jammu and Sialkot very soon for common civilians eachother.
I think peace will establish and both jammu and Sialkot people visit eachother.
So ,India should open road jammu Sialkot road immediately for happy life of people.
