  • Have you ever been "Snaked" at the skatepark? Or accused of being a "Camper"?
    Today we're going over what terms like this mean and how people try to use them in the context of skateboarding in an attempt to encourage people to be polite and to try to keep skaters from running into one another.

    Let us know in the comments how things go down at your skatepark, and whether you think it's right for there to be rules in skateboarding or if it should be more of a free-for-all.

    Beginners are always welcome! At my local the core skaters all go nuts when someone lands their first ollie or drops in for the first time. We all know that feeling of "I FINALLY DID IT!" that send you chasing new tricks and making new skate goals.

    I usually have ear buds in when the park isn't so crowded, but when there are more people showing up I tend to either lower the volume enough to hear what's going on around me or just stop listening to music.

      I agree 100% and will add that if a person can't even roll on flat without falling, a crowded skatepark is not a good place to learn. An empty basketball court, a neighborhood sidewalk that isn't busy, a driveway, a low traffic parking lot... these are all great places to learn how to kick and just roll on a board. People that don't have basic board control and try to learn it at a crowded skatepark endanger themselves and others.

      Straight up! The only exception I’ll make is if you’re looking for some pointers, and know how to stay out of peoples’ way. Can’t really help yourself when you’ve plateaued and RUclips cant always help. Though if you can’t really ride ramps or grind etc, nothing wrong with a big empty school parking lot, or behind Walmart

    • @lilia3944
      @lilia3944 2 месяца назад

      @@jeffberridge176 also early morning/late at night. My local skatepark is in the middle of the industrial part of town, which means you won't be the loudest person there at 5am. Probably a smaller issue in a more rural area with space between the houses, but it's nice to not wake the whole neighborhood sometimes.

      @@NeverStopImprovingSB I was born in Galveston, lived in Houston until I was fourteen, started skating there in 1989. It's the Texas skater connection. I've been in Oklahoma since 1991, just now getting back into skating at age 44 after almost 30 years. Your channel has been a great refresher. Also, I wasn't the best skater back then, but had no one to teach me. We didn't exactly have RUclips in the late 80's and guides were usually just instructions and a set of photos. The way you break it all down is awesome. Thanks again.

    • @oldladyfalling7844
      @oldladyfalling7844 2 года назад +3

      Time! You just have to keep at it.... confidence will come as you get more comfortable with board control...ride everywhere and as much as you can...but if you have been skating for a bit and already have good board control and feel comfortable, but are still having trouble commiting - try doing tricks right next to a fence - maybe hold onto it for the first few tries, then try without holding on, but still close enough where you can grab it if you feel like you are going to fall.....this helped me get over the mental block of kickflips after a very long battle...

    Definitely be careful of experienced skaters. Their lines are naturally longer because they do bigger tricks so you need to make sure you have an idea of where people are and where they’re headed so you don’t get in their way when their gaining speed. Especially at smaller parks.
