  • What's up Silver Foxes? It's Ian and Phoebe bringing you this week's newsletter!

Last week, basketball tryouts were held for both the girls and the boys teams.
We are already looking forward to the Basketball season which is right around the corner. Ten Oaks will hold a scrimmage against Waccamaw on Tuesday, November 19th.
That’s right! And then the first game of the regular season will be a home game against St. James on Tuesday, December 3rd.
    Let’s go Foxes!
Congratulations to Mrs. Teah Grant, our TOMS Staff Member of the Week!
Mrs. Grant is an 8th Grade Math Teacher and the Yearbook Coordinator/Teacher at TOMS.
This is her 8th year teaching at Ten Oaks. Her favorite memory of middle school was shop class! They were able to build balsa wood bridges and compete to see who had the strongest design. They also learned pin-hole photography and were able to develop their own pictures in a dark room.
Her advice to her middle school self would be... Be confident in everything you do! It is ok to be different, that is what makes people interesting.
This week our caught being good program theme is Extra Effort.
Effort teaches us that we can do more than we thought. We learn new skills and abilities when we take the time to put in consistent effort.
Our behavior focus this week encourages us to put forth Extra Effort. Work hard at the task at hand even when it is challenging, use time wisely to complete your assignments, and stay engaged in learning by listening to your teacher, classmates, and others.
It’s that time of year again! Our THANKSGIVING Canned Food Drive
    Is running until November 21st!
It is better to give than receive. Our Thanksgiving canned food drive will go to assist families in need this upcoming holiday season. Students and staff are encouraged to bring in non perishable food items benefiting the local Salvation Army.
Please see the flyers on your classroom doors for a list of acceptable items to donate and don’t forget to check those expiration dates!
Advisory classes can use their blue recycle bins to store donations. Students can move donations to the school stage each week or as needed.
One Advisory class per grade level will be awarded a Sweet Treat Party for most cans collected.
The Overall Grade Level with most cans donated will win an extra recess.
This past weekend, 12 of our TOMS Orchestra students participated in the 2024 Region 5 Orchestra Event sponsored by the South Carolina Music Educators Association.
The event took place over two days at Myrtle Beach High School. Students took part in rehearsals led by distinguished clinicians, sectionals coached by the top teachers in our region, and gave an awesome concert at the end of the event!
Congratulations to those students and our orchestra teacher, Mr. Hammer, for representing Ten Oaks and Horry County so well!
    Bravo to them!!!
