- We knew we couldn't do another winter in the dome, especially with Charlie recovering from surgery this year. How did we end up here?
It all began with a year of full-time travel, embracing the van life until the world shifted, and we had to adjust accordingly. With travel no longer an option but determined to stay productive, we transformed our compact mobile abode into a self-sufficient off-grid dwelling that fulfilled all our needs. Recognizing the uncertainty of the current tiny home, we quickly realized a permanent residence was the most sensible choice. Over the past three years, we have meticulously overseen every aspect of the project ourselves, planning the construction while simultaneously setting up the off-grid property to sustain our future food requirements. For the last two years we've lived in a Geodesic Dome, which has allowed us to be comfortable (expect for the winter months), while we realize our shipping container home dream. However, this will mark our 4th winter with stable electricity, running water, or a flushing toilet and time has come to come up with a new plan going forward.

There has been so much happening behind the scenes to line this up…I can’t even put into words how happy it makes us to know that this winter, Charlie is going to be safe, warm, and comfortable as he heals from this. Let’s be honest, we’re looking forward to it too! @@maryannkom299 They explained in a previous (recent) video that since the Container home wasn't ready for winter they didn't want to spend another winter in the DOME, so they'll probably still be working on the container home while they live comfortably throughout the harsh season in the new cabin.

I know Charlie had to have surgery, but as a dog lover and owner, it breaks my heart when something happens to our fur babies. I will pray that Charlie heals fast and can get out and run to his hearts content. So happy you were able to get your tractor fixed. 🚜Can't wait to see what next Sunday brings!

So happy you found a property (with a view of a lake)for Charlie, you and the other fur babies to weather the winter months comfortably while you continue to work on your container home. As Real Estate investors this decision will also prove to be a wise business move.
I’m sure some people will make judgements about your decision as if they know what is really going on in your lives, when in fact, they have no idea of the reality in which you live your life.

To clean the fireplace glass, simply wet a cloth rag and rub it around in the ashes. Now, use this ash/water mixture (which has now become highly alkaline) to wipe away the soot on the glass. You will have to chase it with a glass cleaner for total clarity but this does the heavy lifting.
You can tell Charlie was smiling while on the king size bed. I bet he missed his siblings, but he obviously loved all the attention. It’s so good to see you’re getting little bits and pieces done. Every little helps. I can’t imagine how hard it’s been to try and manage everything on the Land and caring for Charlie - that’s incredibly hard. You have to look after yourselves as well, or you’ll burn out - I’ve learned that the hard way.
Also trazodone does the same thing in humans and is also used for sleep - who knew?!
He was SO happy lol. I think it might be the first time ever he slept through the full night without getting a kick in his back haha

I'm kinda glad you're taking the winter off. I know the stress has had an effect on your health in the last few years. Take a break, recharge and recoup, and you'll be better for it. The house you rented looks amazing, BTW.
Poor Charlie has a poodle cut! I always feel so sorry for dogs when they come out of surgery: go to sleep and wake up with all sorts of crazy things done to them. I’m happy that you had access to vets who were willing to do surgery on an older dog and who could get you in so quickly!

Amazing how a tech guy could repair the pickup truck and snow blower. And the line boys also show what a lot of training and work experience can contribute. And then the vet and nurses. Just imagine you would have to learn all they know and could not hire specialists. One life time would not suffice. Hurray for the pros!

I’ve been so worried about my favorite dog with a speech impediment. I’m so glad that he made it through surgery and seems to be doing great!! Thank you for keeping all of us informed, I know I’m not the only one when I say we truly care about your puppies and of course Squirrel!

The Lake House? What a surprise "being in limbo" until next week. So happy Charlie is doing ok. Animals are like children, your heart is wrapped around them. I have a cat like Squirrel named Spooky, male and a tiger cat, Mr. Mini. They are very spoiled.

Make sure all the water lines are marked for hot and cold, here in the U.S. we now use colored pex red 4 hot blue 4 cold to prevent mix-up for faucets/showers, washers
