- What is the Colombian dream? I think it´s a finca.
I take a visit to 3 different fincas outside Bogota to explore what the Colombian version of a big house in the suburbs with a white picket fence is. Colombia is a unique country with a unique history. The importance of family and the weather are always consistent, and fincas are designed to cater for both. Pick your weather zone and pick your finca, these places are designed to enjoy life with people you care about.

My name is Sam Miller. I rode a motorbike from Canada to Argentina, discovered Colombia along the way and joined a group of real estate entrepreneurs with a plan to disrupt the accomodation and real estate investment industries.

Que buen video sam....definitivamente estas en el pais del realismo magico. Para nosotros los colombianos, el fin de semana es para estar con la familia, amigos, asado, finca, piscina o mejor aun, ir al rio.
Este pais no sera el mas poderoso o mejor del mundo en calidad de vida pero algo que si no le gana ningun otro pais es que para los que somos colombianos , colombia es mas que un pais , o sea , una maravilla unico y mejor del mundo .
El sueño Colombiano tener una finca, aunque tener una hectárea para una cabaña y piscina es algo costoso cerca de Bogotá, en los llanos adentro de la Colombia profunda a cuatro horas de la capital se consigue más terreno a menos precio.

Lo de las zonas climáticas es muuy cierto. En Manizales el promedio es 17ºC. Pero a una hora al oriente hay nieve y 0ºC y a 45 minutos al occidente hay sol y 30ºC. Ojalá algún día vengas a mi ciudad

Solid video Sam , Villeta is great spot close to the city, my first finca home was in Quindio, after stayed a few years in Medellin . Now I think Ive found some personal paradise in Santander. I think I might live till the end of my days right here .

I wonder what the typical person living in Colombia who is living from mouth to mouth existence thinks about foreign nationals coming and buying land for the purpose of having this lifestyle? It is a view of life that sees everything in terms of seeing nothing but what I can extract from the host country. A exclusive and privileged view of life, where I am untouched by the circumstances of others around me. The whole purpose of life is simply to singularly live for myself for my pleasure and comfort in which the accumulation material and resources exist solely for me to enjoy for myself and my equally privileged friends.
Its nothing new and you can see how it plays out in various ways in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panamá and Ecuador.
Also, having a nice lifestyle does not exempt anyone from engaging and supporting the community around them.
Most probably have other things to worry about than a foreigner going to Colombia with and buying things there with his own money.
A foreigner coming to build a house is not different from a local doing the same thing, and they both move the economy; a multinational going to the amazon, stealing ancient knowledge, patenting it and then charging a fortune for medicines is way, way worse.
There´s no problem with a foreigner investing and moving the economy, it´s better that some backpackers that come looking for drugs or little girls.
Que pensamos los colombianos de que un extranjero venga a vivir aquí, pues que depende en que actitud viene; me explico si es una persona que viene a convivir con nosotros bajo el principio del respeto por los colombianos pues bienvenidos sean, en sentido contrario pues no queremos saber nada ellos. Lo primero que deben entender es que pese a que podamos ser un país "subdesarrollado" y la pobreza exista, la misma no esta presente en todos lados y a toda hora, y no necesitamos de que nos tengan lastima, pues esa es otra forma de imperialismo. En Colombia existe desigualdad social, pero no a tal grado como para creer que las "fincas" solo sean para extranjeros

Glad I subscribed because I am columbian by descent on my father's side only. My brother is currently in Santa Marta I am sure he is loving it. I have never been to Columbia in my life. How is that whole enigma of kidnapping foreigners I hear about? Does it go on nowadays or not?

It´s booming right now, but more so in the local market, not the short term rental market, definitely keeping an eye on it though!
