Hi Brian, activation was yesterday. I know sounds, voices will improve over time. At the moment everything sounds robotic. I already started to use the reading audio books. I am amazed at what this CI can do for me in the future. Mickey

It takes time to adjust and you'll get more comfortable with the new CI sounds. Indeed, it can be annoying at first. :-) Good luck on your journey!

Do you feel that you have learned to understand speech that sounds different from what it used to sound like -OR- do voices sound the same as they did before the implant?
Can you hear and enjoy music - like piano now? If yes, what brand CI did you get?
    Thanks.

For me, there is way more clarity with the CIs than with hearing aids. HAs are amplifiers and as such amplified distorted sounds after it went downhill in the summer of 2012. And yes, I hear and enjoy music. It may take time and a few mapping sessions before you get to that point. The journey is different for each person. It's been amazing for me.

I apologize for my oversight. It depends on the individual. In my case, it took about 6 months for me to get comfortable with each cochlear implant. From that point on, it's a continuous process as the programs can be tweaked numerous years in subsequent years.

I'm hearing normal sound after 4 weeks ots just no true sound is not right for ever. I have a small remote control that I can adjust up and down going to try mobile on phone soon I've just had an upgrade and with this one I can now hear most of the videos on utube.before with rhe old one I could just hear voice and I've gone upon my hearing test from the old one. I expect I'm too old to have further upgrade but they get better and better all the time I really recommend them

Hi Brian , i was wondering how having a cochlear implant will affect playing sports. I play Hockey and i am concerned if i will be able to continue after my implant is healed. By the way i am having the surgery next week. Thanks
    Steve .

First, good luck with the surgery! Second, ask your audiologist/doctor about the sports situation. Every individual and sports are different. Keep me posted!
