Minor note about Zimbabwe. It was officially known as "Zimbabwe-Rhodesia" between 1978 and 1980, during the period of transitioning from white-minority ruled Rhodesia to Black-majority ruled Zimbabwe..

Correction: Mr. Rhodes never actually ruled territory, but yes his private company was essentially a sovereign state that was the precursor to Rhodesia. The change of the name to Zimbabwe reflects the destruction of all ethnic British townships during the Bush Wars

And, I forgot to note that Tanganyika was granted independence from Britain in 1961 while Zanzibar would be granted full independence in 1963. Tanganyika had been a part of German East Africa until the end of World War 1 when it became a British mandate territory under the League of Nations (Britain had managed to take possession during the war but German forces continued to fight until the end of the war) and, after World War 2, the territory was restyled as a "Trust Territory" by the United Nations. As for Zanzibar, it became a British protectorate in 1890 rather than a British colony or actual possession so its "independence" was more of a "restoration of full sovereignty." There was a revolution in early 1964 against the Arab-led government which would eventually lead to the island country's union with Tanganyika (and for about 6 months, the country's name was "the United Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar").

    A couple friendly corrections:
    1. Abyssinia was mainly the Ethiopian highland were the Habesha people originate. only in the 1800s did they start conquering the other regions oromo, somali etc hence it became the Abyssinia Empire. This is partly why there is a lot of present day ethnic conflict in Ethiopia as a lot of these ethnic groups see themselves not as Abyssinian or of that heritage. secondly, the bible Ethiopia is not referring to modern day Ethiopia or Abyssinia. Biblical Ethiopia is actually referring to Meroe, Kush and the civilization in ancient Nubia. We know this to be true because even the kings they mentioned were not Abyssinian kings but Nubian kings. Aksum is the ancient equivalent of Abyssinia. lastly Ethiopian was term the Greek used to general refer to dark skinned africans not a particular ethnic group.
3.The Kongo Kingdom and later Kongo Empire already went by that name prior to Portuguese arrival, it was actually a very centralized kingdom. it would later conquer the surrounding peoples but its heartland is found in modern day northern angola and southern western both congos, were till this day, the Kongo people reside. it exist till 1914.

The first one is not correct. Medieval ethiopia more or less correlated in size with modern day ethiopia. In some eras, it was slightly bigger. After the ethioadal war in the 1500s and the populations movements following it, the abyssinian empire severely reduced in size, particularly due to the oromo migrats from kenya who exterminated and assimilated many of the native tribes of ethiopia. The 1800s saw the revival of the abyssinian empire, which only retook areas that were formerly part of it but never displaced the people that were occupying it, which happened to be a big mistake in hindsight.
To be perfectly clear most of the territories the oromos now live in were ethnically, culturally and linguistically habesha and sidamo(minority cushitic group) inhabited though mostly non Christian(habesha refers to ethnicity not religion).
The second thing you mentioned is true in fact emperor ezana of axum seems to have purposefully appropriated the name "Aethiopia" for his kingdom following the conquest of Nubia (4th century ad), axum was a city the name of the kingdom/empire was "habeshat" in both axumite and southarabian sources even before Christianity took root in the kingdom.

You missed a rather fascinating one: Bechuanaland which became Botswana at independence. The reason this is so interesting is that the old name and the new name are essentially the same, just two different ways of interpreting the populace. "Bechuana" and "Botswana" both essentially mean "land of the Tswana people" ("Bechuana" is an older interpretation of "Batswana" which is the plural form to refer to the Tswana people; the singular form is "Motswana").

@@propaganja7264 RoC is said to have 15 governments, one for each regional city. There is still a Zulu King, but many believe his rule is a scam to cover extortion. Reporters interviewed one "guerrilla commander" in the Congo who turned out to be living openly with his army in a stretch of country they took taxes from. CAR has Seleka and anti-Balaka among others in control of different chunks of country. Nigeria we're not sure about since their army is broken on regional lines and governors will openly promote "bandit leaders" to high office, but they all participate in Nigeria's national elections. In most cases the UN recognized government is simply the militia in control of old colonial capitals.

The theory of an arabic origin of the name "habesha" has already been debunked as their is evidence for the use of the name pre-arabic contact with ethiopia. The word was used by the axumites(100bc-900ad) as the official name for their kingdom and by old southarabians(not to be confused with arabs) aswell in reference to northern ethiopian tribes, and in the 6th century by the byzantines in reference to the axumites living in proximity with the himyarites(southarabians).
The name 'ethiopia' meanwhile was first appropriated by Emperor Ezana of Axum after he conquered Kush(which the axumites referred to as "Aethiopia"), this might have been an attempt to connect Abyssinia with the tales of Aethiopia in the bible. It seems as Ethiopia christinaized more and more, it entirely abandoned the name 'habesha' instead fully embracing the name "ethiopia".
