    ‘Plug it up! Plug it up!” Man! I never felt so bad for a chick in a movie like I did for Carrie. The acting is done so well in the flick. I’ve always seen Carrie as a drama honestly. Even with the end scene, I still put it under a drama instead of Horror

      I know right and it’s a good classic movie and I hope that the remake gets a 4k too since I really did enjoy that movie and I like it better than the original movie the original movie was good I just prefer the remake way better but that just me though

    • @midlevelmedia
      @midlevelmedia  Год назад +4

      Most of the movie I would absolutely agree sticking in the drama category. Even without the final scene, the movie would work as a straight drama/coming of age story.

      @@midlevelmedia Carrie really is one of my fav films. The acting and the character development truly made me care for the actors. I felt horrible for the teacher who stood up for Carrie and the students who were trying to do good for her-heartbreaking! And that soundtrack pulls at the heartstrings at certain points of the film-and then like you said in the video, the music gets extremely creepy.

  • @mistersurrealist
    @mistersurrealist 9 месяцев назад +4

    The original film is still so powerful because of Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie's performances.
    Brian De Palma filmed it like a (twisted) fairy tale, all those diffusion filters really make it all feel like a dream/nightmare.
    I think it's one of the most beautifully filmed horror movies ever.
    I must get this 4K UHD disc, even though I still own the 2002 DVD and 2008 blu-ray.

      The best villians are the ones who's motivations you can get behind. She murdered an entire gymnasium of people, some of which were good to her the entire movie. We can sympathize with her absolutely, but make no mistake, she is a monster and the villian of this story.

      @@midlevelmedia Admittedly I’m probably due for a memory refresher on this one but, even after my last watch, I didn’t see her that way. I saw her as someone pushed past the breaking point by the actual monsters in this story. The innocents were their victims, not hers, casualties of a new power unleashed by a fellow victim who could not fully control it, engulfed by the utter humiliation and rage her victimhood subjected her to.
      I’ve seen this movie only twice, I believe. Around 1983 when I was about six years old (thanks, mom, my guide into horror at that age!) and again about five years ago.

    My birth movie :) Forget fave Horror movie... it's my fave EVER film...like EVER!!!! De Palma is such a brilliant director and Carrie has got to be his ULTIMATE classic! I can't count how many times I've seen this film since I first saw it as a kid. I'm in the UK and had to stay up late one night when it was shown on BBC1. Seriously cannot wait to see this on 4K. Sissy played the character soooo well and always makes me feel super sad throughout. Piper is brilliant and hilarious in her role as Margaret White. I own the Arrow special Edition release which was ace, but waiting to see this in a proper brand new 4K transfer has me super excited!!!
    If you like De Palma, try watching Sisters from 1974, absolutely amazing movie too!

    I bought the 4K steelbook of this and I love it! De Palma rules. And I agree, this is one of his best (right up there with Blow Out and Scarface for me).
    Although Ken -- not to nitpick (too much 😆), but technically, Carrie was De Palma's 10th feature film, by my count on IMDB... not "one of his first." His first film was Murder a la Mod (which, incidentally, is included as a bonus feature on the Criterion Blow Out 4K release).
    Just giving you a little shit, Ken. 🤣😉

      @@midlevelmedia I've been the same way this year. Seems like this was the year for De Palma on 4K... I've always liked certain films of his, but this was the year I really started to get into De Palma's catalog a little deeper. Not everything he makes is solid gold, but he's definitely had his share of fantastic offerings. BTW Ken, if you liked Carrie, you'll probably also like "The Fury." It was a bit more under-the-radar, but it's a great De Palma film with a solid cast (Kirk Douglas, Amy Irving, Andrew Stevens). The story involves telekinesis and teenagers/young adults, somewhat like Carrie (although the story is different). I highly recommend seeing The Fury if you haven't already. Arrow has a good blu ray of it.

    Carrie totally caught me off guard when I saw it. Not at all a slowburn IMO. Thought of it as a over the top dark comedy with some real horror moments and satire and drama. Abit of a mix that works and makes it a highly entertaining film. One of Brian De Palmas best (up there with Scarface) and perhaps even one of the best Stephen King adaptations. Keep up the good work!

    while i am One of those people who Does Not exactly enjoy too many Horror movies, i will say something good about this film's actress, Sissy spacek, and one of her co-stars , amy irving
    these actresses after this movie, Have quite remarkable But quite seperate filmographies
    but the film that spacek was in Much later, that also has Kevin costner, Jfk from 1991,
    whereas amy irving, she was in a couple of Great choices, one is a childrens film that i enjoy called an american tail fievel goes west as the voice of miss kitty
    and she also played Maude salinger in the 1984 film , Micki and maude, that is a great comedy
    But as for my thoughts on this film ken
    i think that its probably More of a drama rather than a Horror
    mainly because the main character gets picked on by bad people
    you see that in Newer films like Mean girls
    But in a Much Lesser extent so that it isnt violent and too out of control
    and its more geared to make people laugh with mean girls
    with this, i think its kinda like a drama cause you do have empathy for the main character
    But the problem is, the people that pick on her, are idiots
    in a review i was reading for this movie , roger ebert had described this film and says that the main character "sits quietly, doesnt speak much, and is the Butt of jokes to classmates"
    which is kinda stupid when you think about How much trouble the other people in the film cause trouble for the main person
    and if these characters had made better choices, it probably wouldnt have turned out the way it did
