  • Took my 13' Boston Whaler named Lucky Rabbit with my dad to Catalina and stayed the night at the boat in campsite Cabrillo to come back when the winds were light. Got fuel at two harbors, did some spearfishing out there, and got a triggerfish for dinner that we ate along with some kalbi short rib bbq. Slept under the stars and had a great time with great diving with great visibility and cool fish and rays. It's been a dream of mine since building the pilot house to take the 13 foot whaler to Catalina and now that it has the 70hp Evinrude it made the trip with ease in about a hour and a half. Thanks to everyone who's helped me along the way! The dream is real!

    Brother your video actually makes me cry because you have the most precious thing in the whole world, going out to the sea with your old man! I would give up everything for that if times can bring my father back 😢. I have missed all the opportunities to do that with him. Now I have a boat , he’s not with us anymore. You, are the luckiest son on the whole planet, and I can see that he’s very much so proud of you! Boating, fishing, Spearfishing, camping, man to man time! Thank you for your video!

      John, thanks for the touching comment. This is what life is about I believe and I am blessed to be able to share this experience with my dad. Your dad will always be with you in spirit so get out there with your boat and get some fish! Thanks again man

      I can’t help to be so jealous and regret. I have a military rib boat that can stand a lot of wind and wave, I am seasonal spearo, hit me up when you want to do it again with your father, let’s go spear some yellowtail or WSB. By the way what’s the model of the inflatable kayak?

    That's awesome. The problem with boats is you always want bigger and more power. Continued success.

    Now, that is adventure. That is an incredible memory you are making as father and son. I never knew you could camp at Catalina like that. I have a BW 17 and hope to do that with my 13 year old son one day (and my daughter too). Thanks for sharing the video....

      Yeah it was definitely something I’ll never forget. There’s actually a few boat in campsites. I really enjoy the solitude and the quiet they offer and a huge perk if you have a boat! Hope you get to make that trip with your kids one day! Let me know if you need any recommendations

    So awesome bro! I’m the guy that bought the 25hp Mariner off of you for my whaler. I’ve since upsized to a 15’ Proline and hope to make the leap and try the crossing next year. Just need to get better at reading conditions and learn the boat.

    Foolish to take a 13 foot boat to Catalina. Fun but risky. Looks like fun. Just know sooo many things can and will go wrong around boats and the ocean. Be prepared!!!

    • @kuang01
      @kuang01 Год назад +1

      You have slightly missed the point. It’s the adventure with the calculated risk a father and a son taken. The benefit is far greater than the risk. They have proved that they have succeed it. Just like any other high risk sport.

      Love your comment and it is right on. We look at wind and swell before going and are prepared to stay longer if we have to wait out bad conditions. Gotten a lot of people who caution me and I appreciate their worry and make sure to be as safe as possible.

    Nice trip, but super LAME to have your radio playing in such a small campground, let alone the fact that sound travels in the campground... Very inconsiderate of others. Sad, but I guess that is the norm in our society now.

    What size anchor how much chain did you have, how much was the camping,how much fuel did you average speed

    • @DanDanFleek
      @DanDanFleek  Год назад

      anchor wasnt that big. Probably ten feet of chain which i need more of, camping i think is 20$ a night, and the fuel was bad because the old motor but i think it was around 2-3 mpg averaging around 17mph. New motor will do much better on gas mileage
