    This car brought back many childhood memories of long trips in our family’s 1961 Chevrolet Belair in that exact same color combination - far from as deluxe as yours as our Belair four door sedan was a base model with AM push button radio, and backup lights being its only two options other than the two tone paint as it had basic hubcaps and black wall tires with six cylinder and three on the tree. So many round trips between Kankakee, Illinois and Carbondale, Illinois in that car - finally rusted to the point that it was traded on a new 1966 Oldsmobile Jeststar 88 with the same level of optional equipment.

    'Explicitly for 1961, 348 4bl. motors had either 250, 305, or 340hp, all other 348s were varying-hp, tri-power motors. That 250-horse motor purrs like a kitten! Got yourself a REAL gem here, Ryan!.....though my personal preference is the Bel Air version bubbletop.....less gaudy but just as sleek!

    That's a beautiful 61' Ryan. My cousin had a 61' with the 409 back in the day. His was an SS, White with a Red interior. My grandfather on my Mom's side had a 58' Impala also White with a Red interior, but his had the Continental kit on the rear, as well as the rare 283/283 hp fuel injected engine from the factory. He was meticulous with his vehicles, and all his cars were as clean as this 61' if not cleaner, and all ran as you say whisper smooth. Your neighbor is awesome by the way hooking you up with those vintage plates. I'd be keeping that 61' rather than trying to sell it if I were you. I really enjoy your videos.

    When I was 19 years old, I purchased a brand new '61 Impala Hardtop, sateen silver with a red stripe. Sticker price was 3,207.00. Get this, I traded a '57 Chevy Bel Air 2 dr hardtop for it! (It was before it was a "57 Chevy") if you know what I mean. Final price of '61 with trade was 1,840.00. The model back then was not called a bubbletop, although I like the title now. The one your purchased looks nice. Congratulations. I do have a Fender Stratocaster in seafoam green, just like your Impala. Thanks for your video. Enjoyed seeing the '61 .

    Beautiful car with the right color. I love the green and aqua tones of the late '50's-early '60's. The '61 to me is a totally iconic look of the early '60's, especially from the rear. It was part of the American landscape through the '70's. I'm a huge fan of Chevrolet's so I like all the Impala's. Another topper for me is a '62 "Golden Anniversary" hardtop.

    When I was a kid my Dad had a 1961 (blue) Biscayne, a 2-door post sedan with the "flat-top" (I called it "overhang") roof. It had the super-reliable, 250 (?) cubic inch 6-cylinder engine with a "three on the tree." If I remember correctly, he traded it in on a brand-new 1970 Olds Delta 88 Hardtop Sedan. It was "Galleon Gold" with a gold vinyl roof.

    • @jerrybrooks870
      @jerrybrooks870 3 года назад

      If it was original, the engine would have been a 235. The 250 didn't come out until 1963. The 235 is an extremely reliable and economical engine. That is what is in my 59 Chevy panel truck paired with a granny four speed standard transmission. I use it as a daily driver and work truck to pull a sixteen ft. trailer loaded with lawn equipment.

The motor started to use excessive oil and was getting low on compression. I gave it to my brother that was in high school and he drove it for a couple years until he got it stuck in a snowdrift and lost reverse in the PowerGlide trying to get it out.
