I'm just back from a month long backpacking trip with my brother through Italy, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Austria etc and I can say without a doubt Albania was our favourite. Shkodër was our favourite and you can get a bus to the nearby Theth National Park if you want some mountains. Himare and Gjyrokaster are amazing as well.
