The contrast between the coppery duck head and the blue water is outstanding. So are the reflections giving this painting a sense of gentle movement. Love, love, love it.
Every time someone tells me how much detail I put into my work, I chuckle to my self and think about the detail in your deer and rams and every thing else you do. Thanks for posting your work. I really enjoy them. Painting is an extension of the outdoors for me. That’s where my passion comes from.
The plumage on the duck is incredibly detailed and the reflection is amazing. There's something special about the way in which an artist absorbs more of the world than your average person.
I love how you explain your painting experiences and how you learned from those experiences that make you the painter you are now 🎨and how this can also teach your viewers some new skills
It's so amazingly real and lifelike. The water looks like its really moving and swirling around the duck. Best work of art I have ever seen, Chuck. You are a master painter!
So beautiful! I feel like I could reach out and touch that duck and feel the softness of the feathers! And Wow! the glassiness of the reflection. Your skill just blows my mind!
I really love the way you explain everything, and it is so comforting to know that you went through different phases. I get so frustrated some times (I´m a beginner) but I know I have to keep practising. Your birds are absolutely stunning!!!! Thank you so much for sharing with us. big hug from Spain
I'm afraid the old master's fade into insignificance in comparison to today's artists. This is true perfection and clarity on another level. You make the artists of the past look like poor amateurs.
I think your getting the hang of this painting caper! Trusting your values and just breaking it down to each brushstroke is definitely the way forward. Laying the right colour in the right spot and resist the urge to blend everything together is the way to go. Beautiful painting Chuck.👍
OMG, amazing Chuck! Love the fact that you took the photo because you love woodland ducks in the wild, then archived the duck with a painting. Great tips, so true. I hear ya and appreciate all you share.
The best part of this video is the commentary you have made. It’s so in detail that anyone can be attracted towards painting art. Very very nice and classic art of yours. The whole video is like as a art teacher is talking to students and really it’s an immense pleasure watching ! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Amazing advice that just helped me get over some of my mindsets, too! I’m trying to loosen up, and not be such a perfectionist that it hurts the process. To see all the areas as textures really helps my perspective - Thank you!
In my opinion wet on wet is the most difficult technique to master, and you sir have most definitely mastered it. Your work is absolutely amazing! I need to teach myself your patience because all too often I become frustrated and my work suffers as a result or I abandon it altogether. You've shown me the way and given me renewed hope and inspiration. Thank you!
While there is undeniably skill involved in this, i think many people have the problem with entirely photo based work, no matter how accurate and detailed, there is always a stiff flatness about photo based art, it always ends up looking like..well..a photograph which is essentially a flat surface and not a living object. a camera captures something with only one eye. yet we perceive reality with two eye, like stereo vision, something photography can never replicate. the only thing coming close to this is painting from life. yet this type of painting thats just a copy of a photograph in paint cuts out that magic. And it is a huge problem today that so many young artist do not even question it and think working from photographs is the way to go
Beautiful piece! Water throws me off mostly in the different ways perspective can completely change how it looks. It determines whether the water is reflective or transparent, glassy or choppy, or what is being reflected on its surface. There is no set formula to painting water which is why it can be so frustrating.
Bravo, Chuck...BRAVO!!!!! I've never heard that insight put into words before. Brilliant - absolutely BRILLIANT!!!!! Listening to your narrative, while watching the duck come to life, demonstrated the perfect meld. Gorgeous painting!!!!!
@@chuckblackart Thank You for presenting this!!! It's like a lifetime of learning, and sharing that learning, in one video. It switched on a light bulb.
Man I feel like young grasshopper being trained by master po. You are a great teacher and have a lot of wisdom. The narration is so overwhelmingly insightful. Thank You. You truly are great at what you do
Despite whole painting was completed in front of my eyes, still, it's really hard to say that it's just a picture not photograph. Congratulations👏🏻 from Turkey with love🤙🏻
Chuck, you are the Dagger King!! As I have said before, what I absolutely love about your videos is that you describe how you are developing as an artist, that you make it clear that it is a journey where you learn by your previous experiences and bumps in your artistic endeavor. As someone who is just starting to paint (I wish I had started earlier in life) I find RUclips a very valuable resource, but I yet have to find a RUclips artist who is as inspiring as you......... and I did not even say a word about this absolutely amazing duck painting... Exquisite!!
I learned that lesson too. I worded it by saying to myself. You have to really SEE what you are looking at. You have break things down into smaller areas and see them for what they are - like you said - colors applied in certain shapes and blended a bit. This one is a perfectly executed magnificent piece of work!!!
Great advice, Chuck. More than anything, you've demonstrated that there's no substitute to improving as a painter than working hard and developing a process that fulfills your goals. Thank you for sharing.
This was just what I needed. I have started a watersoluble oil painting after maybe a decade of my few earlier oil paintings, it's a narrow canal view in Venice, from my own photo. I got stuck with the water ripples and reflections of the houses, my brain did not know if I have to paint them like the houses or like the water - it is hard to explain. I got a short circuit in my brain. Your advise "It's just one large language of textures" helped me to let go of overthinking the architectural structures in the water. I was stuck and you gave me a duck! And the duck is amazing, as are the ripples. Thank you! Subscribed.
Very beautiful work. Thank you for sharing, lots of good tips. Staring at a whole reference or even part of it can be overwhelming, but breaking it down into smaller pieces, simple shapes and textures does make things much easier.
I dont believe you've emphasized the quality of your drawing skills. The outlines of your drawing were so accurate they reminded me of a paint by number panel with only 10% of the outlines. You've explained how you rough in the highlights and shadows (which explains your drawing) and fill everything in between. So glad I'm subscribed.
the waves throw me off sometimes then i realize that every angle and every artist will see it different so can't really make mistake that will ruin your experience producing your artwork thanks for sharing this piece
Glad I came across your channel, it's been like 12+ years since I painted with oils, planning on getting back into them soon and happy to listen to some of your tips! Your work is so wonderful!
Absolutely amazing painting, because of you I painted my 1st ever duck acrylic painting,, it's really challenging not much detailed but I'm so happy with the results.. Thank you so much for your amazing vedio,, very helpful and inspirational, thank you thank you thank you. Looking forward for more paintings from you ...
A sincere thank you Chuck for the way you have described your approach to your painting. I am an amateur artist and although I have had many nice comments about my work, I have a severe lack of confidence before starting any painting I attempt. The way you have explained your approach to the painting, has made me realise that in a strange way, that is what I do. If I look at the subject as a whole, it is too daunting to take in, but by trying to break it down into “ manageable bits “ it seems possible l can do a reasonable likeness. Best wishes from England.
Wow so amazing.. I have been watching your painting videos and your work is absolutely perfectly stunning..Looking like photographs..You're a top notch artist man!!👍🏽👍🏽
I am a retired high school art teacher. I had so many students that were prodigies like you. I love watching and listening to your thinking processes and problem solving skills. Did you take art classes in school? College? Etc.
I always took them when I could throughout middle and high school. Unfortunately I could only once every other semester or something. But my interest in art ran deep, it was my senior highschool art teacher who told me I could sell my art after presenting my final project to the class, the students shook their heads in agreement. That was the first time someone encouraged me to take it further. I owe a lot to her encouragement and I have a lot of respect for art teachers because of it. Thank you for what you did, Laura! It makes a difference. I took a drawing class in college but sadly they discouraged me from creating what I loved and wanted me to change, so I went on my own from there. My experiences with k-12 art teachers were all positive though 🙂.
I viewed this video months ago & thought that you definitely have become an outstanding Artist, I know I will learn a lot from your videos to help me become better. I just saw where you won first place with your Federal Duck Stamp entry ofa Pintail, CONGRATULATIONS !
Paint what you love. Best advice I’ve heard in a long time. Translates to many areas of expertise.
Right on! Titties!
Very nice drawing

You are such a perfectionist so much patience
It's like watching the making of a perfectly flawless diamond or gemstone!!! So amazingly beautiful!!
The contrast between the coppery duck head and the blue water is outstanding. So are the reflections giving this painting a sense of gentle movement. Love, love, love it.
‘Language of textures” love that!
my favorite painter/teacher on youtube! thank you Chuck, awesome work, awesome teaching, awesome person... the full package, thank you for sharing!

That's exactly how I feel with the outdoors, it's how I express it. Lol thanks John! It's my pleasure
The plumage on the duck is incredibly detailed and the reflection is amazing.
There's something special about the way in which an artist absorbs more of the world than your average person.
I dont like realism but i admire the people who do that. What a patience! Congratulations!

I'm humbled 🙌
Can you do a wood duck panting ples
I also love how you take the smallest tab of paint and in seconds it blends right into perfect vision.
Chuck Black You are magic with the paint and brush.
You are one of the finest painters I have seen.

This is a brilliant explanation of how to paint a picture. Thanks Chuck.
Great to see the creative results of loosening up perfectionism!
I've watched this video about 25 times straight, and I'm still not tired of it.
YOUR SO WONDERFULLY GIFTED. I PRAY YOUR ALSO SAVED...LOVE YOUR WORK.

This is my favorite painting that you've done... along with the last duck painting. I'm really falling in love with your duck paintings

Wow...looks so realistic....great painting !! 👍
Thank you .... I will conquer water and reflection now.🤗‼️
That perfectionist bit. I keep struggling with the same thing... This helped... 🙂
You have truly arrived at a whole new level! Thanks for posting these inspiring videos and keep up the great work! God bless you

Amazing advice that just helped me get over some of my mindsets, too! I’m trying to loosen up, and not be such a perfectionist that it hurts the process. To see all the areas as textures really helps my perspective - Thank you!
Such great advice, and of course as always out did yourself, amazing! 👌👏👏👏🎨
Thank you for your encouragement, Chuck!! You’re the best.
Your skill and the way you explain it's so inspiring...your hyper-realistic painting is mind-blowing 👍👍👍
I DO love the clarity of the reflection and the colors of the water ripples. Thanks for sharing! I have to go share this with my son now. - Fantastic!

Yaay.. that duck is swimming😀💗
I can't believe you can do this, incredible. It really makes me think about the sixteen chapel ceiling. Talk about patience. Love it.
Wow! That’s amazing and i love your details on it!☺️💕👍🏻
I’m blown away that you did this whole painting with an angular flat brush.
It has a very sharp edge and point, quite versatile, dagger stripper by Princeton 🙂
Really amazing art work .painting make simplified. Wow duck and the water reflection out of the words
Really very beautiful!!! I'm an artist too & totally Love your paintings!!
