Enjoy this visit to the vintage radio collection of Whanganui's Graham & Val Hawtree. Their collection has over 750 radios, all in mint working condition
Thanks for your comments we too have some bakelite sets and i can tell you they dont take up any where near the room that these older wooden case sets do, but the bakelite sets just dont sound the same cheers Graham.
I talked to many ZL stations when I was KA2HLW, I wonder if they remember me. I also had a D.O.D. call and worked many New Zealand government stations back then. Busy time in my life as I was on a tugboat and had many duties then. Nice video de W4FJF !!
I sure hope you are insured up to the hilt ! And may in sometime in the future, think about leaving your radios to a museum, I hate to see them parceled off and sold bit by bit. what a wonderful collection. All that wood, oh my goodness!
Beautiful wooden cased wireless sets. A nice sound from large speakers. I have 11. A bit surprised at the end. No valve transmitter and receiver as well as modern stuff? I have a much modified Wireless 19 Set, Racal RA17L which I'm just looking at as it's gone deaf, home built xtal one valve transmitter, TW TopBander. Not all old gear, I have an FT817ND and my home built i.c. and mosfet set at 4 Watts out. G4GHB.
The saddest part about wishing I had a old time radio, is if I did own one, even if it works perfectly... It wouldn't play the old time stuff nowadays...
May I Also ask, if one was on a remote NZ lighthouse station in 1930; with no land based power, was any kind of AM reciver used by station families to stay abreast of events on the mainland?
I also made my dad's radio to fm it is treasure trove god bless all the loves of valve radios
Great collection Down Under! Didn't know about it while lived there
What a dream What a collection you guys have. Beautiful pieces of art. I collect a few radios. More of Bakelite table top

You need a 'AM transmitter' or configure it for blu tooth, to play what you desire.
Graham you have a great video and once I have converted the 1935 Gulbransen i bought off you to bluetooth I will bring it over to show you. 🙂
Please do!
Wonderful.
Thank you! Cheers!
Hi, Mr
Wonderful collection good luck for you in the new year 2022.
Please do you accept comments or questions,
I fully restored an old "LoveJoy" radio NZ made.
Hello from 4L1DW
was that solar panel inverter interference over the radio at the end of the vid?
May I Also ask, if one was on a remote NZ lighthouse station in 1930; with no land based power, was any kind of AM reciver used by station families to stay abreast of events on the mainland?
Do you have a Zenith Stratocaster???
يوجد عندي مجموعة كبيرة من الراديو واود ان ابيعها وقطع وصمامات قديمة كان والدي يعمل بها
Awesome. Would love to hear them play.
May I ask, when did reliable radios become available in NZ (assuming that there were AM stions to be heard).
😍
साहब अंग्रेजी बोलते है समझ नहीं आता है
Sir I like redio plz give me redio
For my curiosity, why do some people say vacuum tube radios sound better than transistor units?
I’ve done restorations, but nothing as beautiful as these models.
