  • Lotrek drew inspiration from Dondorf's legendary Shakespeare deck to create an all new design - with a bit more custom than usual for a Lotrek court! Great artwork and inspiration to go around on this one, so how does this appetizer for the eventual year 2 Patreon deck look to you?

"Promised soon for the promoters of Oath's Patreon" got me good lol. Love the content, keep it up Kingfisher :)

It's a nice design but I'm not big on the colouring choices, the gold especially looks very flat. The cloth is so heavily shaded (very nice) so why doesn't the gold have any?
It honestly looks like it was rushed to the printer before the artist could add the final touches, or it was planned they'd use metallic ink & just forgot.
I like limited--palette artwork, but I wish they'd employed some hatching to give more of a classic and less of a cartoony look, personally.
Overall it just lacks a certain . . pop. I think the black backdrop actually works against the design on that, together with the white borders it sucks all the contrast out of the actual imagery

Thanks for that. I think to some degree the coloring is just consistent with Lotrek’s art style. The hatching is often applied only partially to a design like this. But I can see what you mean about it lending a comic book finish to the art as opposed to the classic look. For me, it distinguishes it from the original more realistic artwork from Dondorf.
A couple have commented about the black backdrops and on further consideration I think I see some merit in that point.
Thanks for the thoughts on the deck!

Thank you for another great review. The colors really do look amazing and they really pop with this deck. I think his players versions offer great value as his foil decks can get wickedly expensive.

Definitely a good option to appreciate the art and theme without breaking the bank!

Please, made video about such playing cards like Specs and Bicycle Bowl-a-rama.

An interesting detail is the different skin tones in the court characters. I’m not sure whether it was fully intended, as there seems to be a little bit of color tone inconsistency between different cards, even in the clothing. Hard to tell for certain from RUclips.

They are slightly different. My take on it was that it was intended to showcase slightly different nationalities of the characters represented - and to demonstrate more diversity in the characters.

I like the back design and the courts are alright but I really don't like the large field of black on the numbered cards. Seems like wasted space.

I've gone back and forth on the black field as I read the comments here. I think it helps the metallic gold really stand out better - which I like. But I can see how it can feel a bit empty too.

Very nice deck, but foiling on the back would have really elevated it to another level. I know it's a players edition, but the Icons players were gilded.

Sometimes I find foil to be unneeded. But this one will be great in it’s foiled glory!

Those cards would be a little hard to read during play, especially the court cards.

Artificial scarcity makes me not wanting to support the maker.
