HOT TAKE: switching weapons when you stop shooting is actually a really good thing. If you’re doing literally anything in Cuphead that isn’t P-ranking or fighting the chess pieces, you have no reason to stop shooting, so you can just roll a good weapon and keep it. The relic means you can switch between weapons super easily for different phases in fights where you might want 1 weapon for each phase, meaning it’s all upsides.
Sorry if this comes across as rude, but have you used the Divine Relic? The problem that arises is that you don't have full control of when your weapon switches, because dashing switches your weapon uncontrollably, and simply letting go of the shoot button by accident has the same effect, which can be quite common considering everything that's going on during a fight; not to mention that you don't have full control of your EX's either, so no more super big damage traps for certain phases of the boss. All I'm saying is there are clear downsides that may prove to be very unnecessary when you don't even need to use Divine Relic for the majority of the bosses, and it doesn't act as a sudden cheat code to winning the game... EXCEPT for Plane Levels, and that's why it's so high on the list lol. That's also why Heart Ring is on top of the list, because it almost IS a cheat code for surviving any boss fight with extra HP whenever, especially when combined with Crackshot.
@@MrKap you do have a point with the dashing being annoying, but I kind of play conservatively with my dashes so I guess I didn’t notice it as much. I have used it to s rank bosses, and its half of the bosses that i use it for. Ehhh, most people would have played the main game first, and having to switch to another character that plays surprisingly differently is a challenge by itself. You're also taking a Super and charm slot to have the maximum amount of survivability, which is on par, if not slightly worse than using Heart Ring and Invincibility. It also encourages you to get better at the game by parrying when using Heart Ring. Astral Cookie is by no means an instant cheat code that'll get you wins on its own, it's your skill that matters. She has a lot of advantages you can utilize to the fullest, but compared to the charms above, I find them more practical, easier, and blatantly more OP than switching to an entirely new character; Divine Relic on plane levels for example and Heart Ring for parry heavy bosses as well.

Since you ranked Chalice in A tier because of personal difficulty using her, I, as a player who didn't spend 5 years getting used to Cuphead controls and then attempt to use Chalice, will provide my opinion on her. Double Jump: Honestly the main reason I use Chalice. While the extra jump is nice, the main usage I get from this is the extra airtime. Since you can use your second jump at ANY TIME AT ALL while in the air so long as you haven't already used the double jump, you can use the double jump to clutch up in tough scenarios such as falling off a platform or to cover more distance in the air. This gets amplified with the crackshot ex as with that you can effectively triple jump. Dash Parry: Since I used Chalice relatively early on in the playthrough, the dash parry doesn't really trip me up like it does other players. The dash parry is, most of the time, FAR EASIER than Cuphead's parry, as it doesn't require any timing, can be done without jumping, and the only scenario in the game where its actually worse than Cuphead's parry mechanics are the parries in Grim, in which case parrying still isn't the hardest thing in the world. The changes in how her supers work make basically every single super art 5x better (besides the first one) The invincibility roll actually is a bit more than just a smoke dash on the ground since you're actually invincible for a little bit AFTER you roll, allowing you to cheese stuff you normally couldn't (such as the duck machine in the carnival run'n'gun). And since you have the double jump for air, the lack of invincibility while dashing is generally less of an issue than it seems. Also, there's a f****ing extra hit point with zero downsides whatsoever. With all that said, Chalice is well deserving of an S tier spot, she just has a bit of a learning curve. TL;DR: Chalice is good it's just that most people are too used to Cuphead to bother trying her.
It's more that going through all that effort and being limted on your charm choice just makes bringing her for every fight a bit unnecessary in my opinion. She isn't some "instant" win button like Heart Ring and Divine Relic can be in their own situations. Chalice is 100% a great character and better than normal Cuphead & Mugman, but as a charm slot, there are other options that can work just as well and even better without everything that comes along with choosing Ms. Chalice :)

I would say chalice is an s tier due to the fact that she comes with a slightly harder smoke bomb, extra hp, double jump, and dash parries. In most scenarios, the dash parry is much better than a jump parry. The invincibility roll is extremely good in a ton of scenarios and shines the best on ground bosses. Her double jump allows for insane plays that wouldn’t be possible with Cuphead/ Mugman and comes in clutch a LOT. I would also say that her supers are much better than the base supers and are much more effective
Coffee is really underrated, Coffee was actually the charm I used when I beat King Dice for the first time and I even got a perfect grade that time because building up Cards for the super art 1 became effortless making the fights really short while absolutely shredding King Dice.
The thing is. I played as ms.Chalice from when I first got that astral cookie. I am sorry to say that I cannot play as cuphead sience I got very used to ms.Chalice's gameplay style and I beat more than 2 thirds of the game using her
the hear charms are S tier for the run and gun levels if you're a newer player and you're trying to get all the coins. I remember taking so much stupid damage and dying because of slight variations in where enemies would be in a level. definitely way more variation and risk for stupid damage than during the boss fights
I'm on team Chalice. The cookie is a bit like the divine relic in the sense that it's a bunch of different charms together, but with extra steps. It's a nerfed smoke bomb (requires setup and can't be done mid air), a nerfed p. sugar (you still need to press a button, but it's a lot simpler), a buffed heart charm (no damage reduction) a super buffed wheatstone I guess (can double jump anywhere with no damage tho), and even some version of the heart ring in the form of the heart shield, since you exchange 5 cards for an extra heart. But unlike the heart ring, the heart shield will actually count towards your super meter, which is important if you try to get S ranks and need to use up all your supers for extra hearts.
As someone who got all the achievements, I'd still rank Chalice as S if only because she actually feels far easier for me to play than Cuphead/Mugman. I like the control her extra movements come with and the added precision of her dash parry. I typically only really used the Smoke Bomb, so not the worst trade in for the overall touch of precision she brings. Plus the shield EX and extra HP genuinely make most S rank HP requirements a breeze. About the only place I would make her lose points is the plane levels, where her default shot has a lower fire rate which I don't feel quite makes up for the spread.
I feel like for me Ms. Chalice is the best just because I can make more snappy movements, and I actually prefer the lower base jump height sometimes because it helps me not jump into things, and if I need a higher jump i could always use the double. That being said, it's a matter of preference, my opinion just happens to be that Chalice is best.
I seriously thought you could play as chalice alongside cuphead and Mugman. Was kinda disappointed when I saw she could only be accessed through the astral cookie charm
I'd say the whetstone is one of the best, at least I expected it to be, since I have seen speedruns of certain bosses where they literally shredded them by parrying them at least once a second, like Cagney Edit: About the Sugar losing its uses once you "Get good": I don't use parry sugar for parrying normally. It's pretty much only for bosses where the parriables tend to come above. Due to playing on keyboard, I cannot buttonmash quickly enough to press jump twice that quickly. I can only press it with an inverval of about 200ms. That's slow for cuphead. The autoparry comes in handy for fights like phantom express where the parriable objects are usually right above my head (Ghost skulls) and I wouldn't be able to parry them because of hardware.
I just watched your weapons ratings and came here to say screw you, charge and spread are S tier. Also to say I've been enjoying your vids, good stuff 👍
I wasn't going to make this video, but I thought, "Why not?". I also find it interesting to know what everyone's opinions are on the list, so I'm looking forward to seeing what people think!
Parry sugar, whetstone, and heart ring are all such strabge charms. Whetstone feels like a joke concept that made it in, and p sugar just doesnt make any sense. Heart ring is easily a favorite but your first parry awarding you an hitpoint feels unnecessary. If it was 3-6-9 it would make more sense since then youd actually have had time to take damage for the healing to be effective
I think astral cookie is best no only because it gives multiple charms in the same slot but it also allows you to have a double jump and that isn't even possible without ms. Challis
I got divine relic easily, because i used infinite djimmi wishes,, so heres the bosses that i beated 1. Every isle 1 bosses 2. Baroness 3.Djimmi 4. Werner.
In my opinion mrs chalice should be higher, she basically turns the game to easy mode, parry dash is so much better, the roll is spammable and easy to use, and of course the double jump that let you avoide most ground attacks in the game, plus she has a 1 hp bonus, not to talk about her 3 whole new super arts that the devs of the DLC made us, literally all her supers are good especially the third one, mostly I don't pick her because it feels like cheating, so yeah I think mrs chalice should be number 1
The divine relic randomizes your weapon every time you stop shooting, use an EX move or dash. How can you possibly keep track of whats going on with all that confusion?
And it also switches your weapon randomly every time you stop shooting. It's typically not worth bringing unless you specifically decide to get good and deal with the weapon switching. Divine Relic however is amazing for Plane Levels since you only have to deal with 2 weapons to switch from.
But should that mean it's automatically the best charm in the game? From a very objective point of view, meaning like what would someone that's only looking for optimization use, Ms. Chalice would be considered the best charm in the game. Every single speedrun that CAN use Ms. Chalice, uses Ms. Chalice. It's a very optimal pick for sure. The question is if you ACTUALLY need it from a normal or average player point of view; and that's the question I ask myself personally for Divine Relic. Divine Relic gives you 4 charm effects, sure, but are you actuuallly gonna be able to use that to its fullest extent if your weapons are also constantly switching without any real way to keep the weapons consistently? Divine Relic is a BEAST for plane levels, absolutely, but you really wouldn't use it for normal bosses unless you specifically want to. You could argue it's S tier still, but I think it has very clear downsides that make it genuinely not a must use charm, nor a charm I would recommend people get for the majority of bosses except for plane levels. You also gotta account for getting the charm in the first place. It's definitely a process you have to go through, so compare that to something like Heart Ring that you can get immediately in the DLC and works like a charm (pun intended) and you get for me personally the BEST charm in the game. Divine Relic being the 3rd best charm makes sense to me.
@MrKap holy cow that's a thesis statement to be sure. I won't read it but I appreciate the time you took in your response. No I don't think it should be auto best but It did feel like you were ignoring it a bit when you put smoke dash up top with heart parry.
If you were able to dash and still keep your active weapon with Divine Relic, then sure, but the thing with Smoke Bomb is it has virtually no downsides whatsoever and is genuinely the best base game charm in Cuphead. You can bring it to pretty much any and every ground boss fight and you WILL get value from it with again no downsides. Same thing with Heart Ring honestly, but that does have one miniscule downside that gets completely overshadowed by the 3 extra HP you'll have by the end of the fight, especially when you use Crackshot for health on demand.
@MrKap which is fair. Just say that in the video, it made me feel like you didn't want to mention it as to not put it at high tier but this argument is great for why it's not the end all be all of items, cuz it's really not... unless you're on a plane level that is
Hey, I haven't finished the game so I think it would be nice if you explained every charm a bit more before ranking it. Uk for everyone who doesn't know ^^;
I'll keep that in mind for next time, but I believed that the gameplay showed the effects of each charm well enough that it wasn't necessary all the time. I'll mention it briefly if I do anything similar 👍
Just a question, would divine relic not…AUTOMATICALLY be S tier just because it has smoke bomb along with heart ring? I get that the weapon swap is annoying but is it really enough to outweigh the two best charms, an upgraded B tier charm and an amazing charm for speedrunning?
Such a good tierlist but miss chalice should be higher (my opinion) but that's bec I started playing cuphead as her so maybe I have just gotten used to her
It's really one of those charms that's on a person-to-person basis. Ms. Chalice if you get good at her is 100% better than Cuphead/Mugman and has a lot of cool things you can do with her specifically. She mainly suffers from a slight lack in versatility for a few bosses alongside not being able to use any other charms but herself. With hitters like Heart Ring and Divine Relic literally making this game like a cheat code, I wanted to throw a hot take out and see what people think. Thanks for being respectful!
Yea that is so fair I think that for your average player chalice is hard and heart ring is op with crackshot so that's true (and thanks for responding love hearing people options ☺️
1:37 that’s my issue with the heart charms. That shouldn’t BE viable for S ranks. S ranks should be a test of how good you are at the game, and not just a test of how much health you can tank and not go below 3. MDHR changing the S rank requirement to be how much health you have, versus how many hits you take is just stupid.
I do agree with that. It shouldn't be so easy to achieve the HP requirement, as they fsr lowered the requirement in a patch a long time ago. Don't know why they did that, but Heart charms are still very useful for simply guaranteeing you'll survive a long time, or at least a longer time in boss fights.
In my opinion this tier list is preety wrong, how the hell sugar is for people bad at parry? theres like multiple scenarios where's the parry is almost impossible or not worth the risk without it, sugar is for fast parry levels where theres to many attacks on the screen and you can't aford waiting your character drop on a attack to press the parry because you would get hit while coffee special regen is so low, it takes 2 wholes minutes to fill the cards which is way more than a whole boss fight and smoke bomb top tier? literraly beat the game without it, the teleport makes you loose track of your character and the invencibility s is not consistent, of course there plenty levels where's using it makes the run very easy but this doesn't mean the charm is S tier....
We simply have a difference in perspective, that's pretty much all I can say. TLDR - Parry Sugar isn't a necessary charm once you get used to parrying multiple attacks at once, Coffee might seem slow, but adds up really quickly when you're also gaining cards via shooting, and Smoke Bomb is simply one of the best charms straight up, whether it's S or A tier doesn't matter to me tbh.
Soooo we're gonna completely ignore that it switches your weapon every time you stop shooting? Not necessary half the time unless it's a plane boss, and in that case it's S tier, but not overall considering everything.
Ok you did miss chalice dirty learning to play her isn’t that hard and the double jump and extra hp make her the second best charm, divine relic barely beating her out
My opinion is that A. You need the DLC and have to go through ALL the steps just to get Divine Relic, which is also taken into account for the list, B. The weapon switching is still very awkward to deal with for On The Ground bosses, and even though it's not a bad downside comparatively speaking, it's still a decent con that you HAVE to get used to, just like Ms. Chalice. C. It's good to understand that unless you're SPECIFICALLY going for an S Rank, all that matters is that you BEAT whatever boss you're fighting, so using Divine Relic is quite unnecessary in that case, which is the exact same opinion I have with Ms. Chalice as well. You can just use Smoke Bomb and have JUST as much success as using Ms. Chalice without having to learn her style of gameplay AND without DLC, AND you can get it immediately at the beginning of the game. With everything taken into account, that's why I ranked everything how it is :)
There aren't many other main charms to use especially without the DLC, and Smoke Bomb has always been an extremely useful charm to play more mindlessly and with less effort and still achieve everything you need. It's highly regarded for a reason.
HOT TAKE: switching weapons when you stop shooting is actually a really good thing. Coffee is really underrated, Coffee was actually the charm I used when I beat King Dice for the first time and I even got a perfect grade that time because building up Cards for the super art 1 became effortless making the fights really short while absolutely shredding King Dice.
In my opinion the best charm is cookie or smoke bomb. Mostly i agree with your list.
That's fair.
my first and only playthrough i never swapped off twin heart
The thing is. I played as ms.Chalice from when I first got that astral cookie. I am sorry to say that I cannot play as cuphead sience I got very used to ms.Chalice's gameplay style and I beat more than 2 thirds of the game using her
Nice! This is a great video in celebration of your ranking bosses video! The video that started this whole journey
the hear charms are S tier for the run and gun levels if you're a newer player and you're trying to get all the coins. I remember taking so much stupid damage and dying because of slight variations in where enemies would be in a level. definitely way more variation and risk for stupid damage than during the boss fights
It's also very useful for getting P ranks in the run n guns.
I don't think id be able to 300% the game without heart ring XD
Bro I keep watching your teir list they are very entertaining somehow
I appreciate the kind words!
Whetstone is my favorite charm. It's not the best, but it is so fun (and shreds bosses if you use it right).
Whetstone I think should be higher up, to at least B or A. It makes plane levels an absolute BREEZE.
My favorite charm is the heart ring and coffee and also like the twin hearts
I seriously thought you could play as chalice alongside cuphead and Mugman. Was kinda disappointed when I saw she could only be accessed through the astral cookie charm
I'd say the whetstone is one of the best, at least I expected it to be, since I have seen speedruns of certain bosses where they literally shredded them by parrying them at least once a second, like Cagney
Edit: About the Sugar losing its uses once you "Get good": I don't use parry sugar for parrying normally.
Once I got used to chalice I realized just how o.p. the character is. The invincibility somesault is better than smoke bomb once you get used to it.
I just watched your weapons ratings and came here to say screw you, charge and spread are S tier. Also to say I've been enjoying your vids, good stuff 👍
It's about time I am pretty sure I asked for this a few months or a year ago actually
Yes you did! Decided to make it after all because of your comment 😎🙂
Divone Relic hot take:
If u are skilled and pro it is the best one
But if you are a normal skilled its better to use smoke bomb
I use cookie with crack shot for shot a and spread for shot b
Heart ring is good but smoke bomb is 100% the best atleast imo, sure heart ring gives your more hp but smoke bomb saves your hp
So happy you made a follow up to the shots video!!
I wasn't going to make this video, but I thought, "Why not?". I also find it interesting to know what everyone's opinions are on the list, so I'm looking forward to seeing what people think!
I think that miss chalice is a little bit overrated but it is still good, but i prefer smoke bomb. By the way the video was great, good joob.
Oh yeah i definitly agree with heart ring in first place!
Hey nice video love it it was Useful tysm
My pleasure 😊
People don't use whetstone for the damage, they use it to dodge boss attacks
Parry sugar, whetstone, and heart ring are all such strabge charms. Whetstone feels like a joke concept that made it in, and p sugar just doesnt make any sense. Heart ring is easily a favorite but your first parry awarding you an hitpoint feels unnecessary. If it was 3-6-9 it would make more sense since then youd actually have had time to take damage for the healing to be effective
I think astral cookie is best no only because it gives multiple charms in the same slot but it also allows you to have a double jump and that isn't even possible without ms. Challis
I do suck at parrying a bit
Heart ring is like a medkit
Now I kinda want heart ring and crackshot
Hot take: The divine relic is the 2nd best charm in the game just after Ms. Chalice.
1:09 so you've played Hollow knight
I got divine relic easily, because i used infinite djimmi wishes,, so heres the bosses that i beated
1. Every isle 1 bosses
2. Baroness
3.Djimmi

Glad it helped!

mine is
11.broken relic
10.cursed relic
9.whetstone
8.twin hearts
7.p sugar
6.heart
5.coffee
4.astral cookie
3.heart ring
2.smoke bomb
1.divine relic
In my opinion mrs chalice should be higher, she basically turns the game to easy mode, parry dash is so much better, the roll is spammable and easy to use, and of course the double jump that let you avoide most ground attacks in the game, plus she has a 1 hp bonus, not to talk about her 3 whole new super arts that the devs of the DLC made us, literally all her supers are good especially the third one, mostly I don't pick her because it feels like cheating, so yeah I think mrs chalice should be number 1
Divine relic should be ranked higher it’s literally coffee smoke dash heart ring and wetstone
Love it!
Thank you!!
Divine relic should be s tier, It has both heart ring, and smoke dash yet he put it below smokedash and heart ring
The divine relic randomizes your weapon every time you stop shooting, use an EX move or dash. How can you possibly keep track of whats going on with all that confusion?
Wait I thought Devine relic has smoke bomb coffee and a better heart ring so How is heart ring and smoke bomb better?
And it also switches your weapon randomly every time you stop shooting. It's typically not worth bringing unless you specifically decide to get good and deal with the weapon switching. Divine Relic however is amazing for Plane Levels since you only have to deal with 2 weapons to switch from.
But wait the relic HAS a smoke bomb AND the heart parry as well as the whetstone....
Just say that in the video, it made me feel like you didn't want to mention it as to not put it at high tier but this argument is great for why it's not the end all be all of items, cuz it's really not... unless you're on a plane level that is
Hey, I haven't finished the game so I think it would be nice if you explained every charm a bit more before ranking it. Uk for everyone who doesn't know ^^;
I'll keep that in mind for next time, but I believed that the gameplay showed the effects of each charm well enough that it wasn't necessary all the time. I'll mention it briefly if I do anything similar 👍
ok ok ok lets be real here: 90 percent off players in cuphead only use smoke bomb, cookie, devine relic[for plane levels], and hart
ring and thats it
Those are the best charms in the game, soooo sounds about right lol.
The EX’s do more damage then the super arts
Actually the whetstone is worse than cursed relic (the cr is actually pretty good!)
no one can beat cuphead without smoke bomb
Just a question, would divine relic not…AUTOMATICALLY be S tier just because it has smoke bomb along with heart ring? I get that the weapon swap is annoying but is it really enough to outweigh the two best charms, an upgraded B tier charm and an amazing charm for speedrunning?
I do understand it’s hard to get and I haven’t even played the dlc (lol) but it just doesn’t make an insane amount of sense imo
Also I love your videos and love your content so you responding means so much to me so thanks for being nice 👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the kind words! 😁
No problem 😃
I should tell my sister to use p.sugar because she is bad at paryying
Am I the only one who feels like ms chalice does less damage
Chalice has a build in smoke bomb
How in the world ring+ smokebomd is worse than casual smoke bomb and ring
Hey make a video about Spider-Man man two pls
Can you play Master quest it’s a Cuphead mod
Ehhh, maybe..? If I play it, it would most likely be a live stream, so maybe stay tuned with the channel!
Whetstone SUCKS when playing seriously but I LOVE messing around with it
YOU CAN SMOKE BOMB IN MID AIR?
my time played on cuphead is 15 days
0:02 I’m sorry did that just say 9 DAYS
How many hours is that
24X9+10 hours as we see in the image= 226 hours!……
Ok that’s not that much.
you have enraged the secret whetstone society. we are now at your door. Open.
🤯
Astral cookie or divine relic are the best
Magic flask
Happy noise
Mrkap liked my comment. Happy noise 2
Where is the new video bro like please cook
Oh I'm cookin alright :)
Ok
Devine relic is S it literally has smoke bomb and whetstone and coffee. What are you smoking
Soooo we're gonna completely ignore that it switches your weapon every time you stop shooting? Not necessary half the time unless it's a plane boss, and in that case it's S tier, but not overall considering everything.
@@MrKap exactly you can have every weapon when you stop shooting plus I got it for myself i agree but its really good so I respect your opinion
@@MrKapyo sorry for being mean and your right I got it now so I’m sorry
Miss Charles is the best
Ok you did miss chalice dirty learning to play her isn’t that hard and the double jump and extra hp make her the second best charm, divine relic barely beating her out
Isn’t divine relic just a superior smoke bomb the gun switching isn’t bad enough to land it below the normal smoke bomb
Same with the heart ring divine relic I feel is just better obviously no hate to you opinion
@@MrKapwrong opinion
11 month gang. 👇
:)
Chalice better than cuphead/mugman without smoke bomb imo
Oh for sure! If Cuphead/Mugman didn't have Smoke Bomb, then I would definitely put Ms. Chalice in S Tier.
He
I actually hate smoke bomb its so overated
There aren't many other main charms to use especially without the DLC, and Smoke Bomb has always been an extremely useful charm to play more mindlessly and with less effort and still achieve everything you need. It's highly regarded for a reason.
