I usually just do a partner polka to this, but I like this line dance! I wish more men/women my age liked to dance where I live haha. Maybe I’d make more friends that way. I go dancing twice a week! 😆
They were doing it on stage, so I think they looked serious because they were probably all for concentrating very hard on not making a mistake. I The video is French, so I don't suppose the women learned the dance in school or at camp, as it seems from other posts that all Americans do! I don't know the dance either and it looks quite complicated. I think this is a great video to watch for learning the dance steps. Like most people, I expect that the dancers had a lot of fun as they were rehearsing for their performance. 🙂
My bestie is African and never learned this dance and she moved to the UK now we have our formal in a few weeks so I’m sending my friend loads of gernerc dances that will probs be played 😂 sending her this to learn so she’s not embarrassed when it plays
This just came on my Spotify and instantly brought me back to the kids doing Folk Fest. It is a dance festival the kids do at school. Every school in our district learns the dances, and they have a whole afternoon of dancing at one of the high schools.
Dancing to the cotton eye Joe makes me happy i like because a country girl becoming a country girl makes me a lot happier then i was before i fell stylish looking like a cowgirl 🤠👩🌾👨🌾💃
Did this going around in a circle on a dance floor with the club patrons a very long time ago. The music got progressively faster as did our feet. Got a western theme company party coming up and some of the co-workers want to learn some line dancing.
I’m actually born from the south and grew up in the south and I have been listening to Cotton Eye Joe on repeat lately so it’s only right learning how to dance it.
Each to their own, but folks, this is NOT the Cotton-eyed Joe dance. It is a Line-Dance to a version of the song - sung by a Czech (Slovak?) all-girl band. See "Cotton Eyed Joe by Asleep at the Wheel" for the original, slower version. The song starts out slow and gets progressively faster. You link up together in a series of lines (from the edge of the dance floor to the center). The dance is asymmetrical, going forward (1,2,3) eight times, and backward (kick, kick, 1,2,3) four times. See "Texas Style Cotton Eye Joe aka: "The Bullshit Song" the Original Way" except, back when, the band would stop playing if the crowd started yelling rude words. We used to have manners. I'd also look at "Cotton Eye'd Joe and Schottische via Asleep At The Wheel" because the Schottische almost always immediately follows Joe. Though, this is a fancy version of the Schottische by the Texas Swing band Asleep at the Wheel. The dance repeats in a pair, then a pair of pairs. Step, cross, step, hop, (repeat in opposite direction) then hop, hop, hop, hop; repeat all that, but on the second go you end with hop, hop, hop, hop-hop. Got it?
I learned this when I was in high school, at a robotics competition probably 2007 or 2008 and this became my mascot dance seeing as I was mascot of my robotics team! I just learned it on the fly watching everyone else do the dance!
this brings back repressed memories from elementary school where they forced us to learn this dance as part of "P.E." and then forced us to do it in front of the whole school
At first people online taught me americans were bad people, and that it’s the most basic culture ever. Except as I grow older I’m glad to be an american, these dances are so fun as well😭❤
It wasn't until I went to a wedding and saw people doing this I realized that it's an actual dance. Now I want to learn it so I can also join in.
I want to learn it too
Me too...
Me too went to dance they did this I didn’t know how to do this
