    Make sure to replace the thermal pads, they usually only last about 10 years before starting to dry up, people have been reporting their ps2’s dying because they were using factory thermal pads still after 20+ years.

    • @AlDim000
      @AlDim000 Год назад +11

      That's a non-issue. I haven't seen any issues with the big thermal pads when restoring piles of these. The only dried pads I've seen were on a couple of smaller chips under the DVD drive.

    I’ve been thinking about cracking open my ps2 for a couple of years to clean and do some up grades, but man does it look delicate to me.

      Just watch out for that gamepad board ribbon cable, it's pretty fragile. Other than that it's pretty easy tbh

    The disc drive's laser rails/motor shaft and tray assembly require additional cleaning and lubrication.

      Lol. I haven’t made a decision on what to do with these once I am done. For now they are sitting in the shelf behind my recording station. For the systems that work, I may sell them on ebay eventually 🤷‍♂️

    Great video, thanks! Is it necessary to actually take this fully apart to clean though? Wouldn't just opening it and using a good can of compressed air work pretty well and do the job or do I really need to do all of this :/

    Nice! But a tip- I found it slightly less annoying to plug in the fan before the expansion bay housing and cover. Gives more free room to plug it in. You did it like it was nothing though haha.

    I pulled this up to help me deep clean mine and oh my god the sheer number of cockroachs inside that poor console was sickening. Just got this pre-owned and i knew there were problems with the battery and disk drive so I opened it up to that lovely surpirse. Still working on it.

    You don't need to separate every piece of metal from the plastic parts. I never do that and i even wash sometimes the metal plates in soapy water. I doesn't rust. And i use a soft brush for Mainboards and fans to clean them. And I lubricate the moving parts in disc drives with oil or paste.

    Did you use a magic eraser to scrub down the board? I was always curious if that does harm to console cleanings

    • @RestorishOfficial
      @RestorishOfficial  Год назад

      I don’t think I did…but I filmed this a while ago. I would not recommend using a magic eraser on a board. I use them occasionally on heavily stained matte plastics. And that with caution.

    Do you see much improvement in performance? If you could quantify it in percentage terms, would it be minimal or significant like twenty or thirty percent?

  • @Mvgical

    I saw someone saying on another video, "Do not remove the power and eject ribbon cable from the console, remove it from the buttons" is that what you're doing here?

  • @meh6722
    @meh6722 Год назад +3

    Thought you're not supposed to use magic erasers with the cases? That it actually ruins the finishing of the console

    • @RestorishOfficial
      @RestorishOfficial  Год назад +4

      Magic erasers are very lightly abrasive. If overused they can take off a finish. The amount I use them gets the dirt & stains off but not the finish
