The coating inside when new, was probably a protective phosphate layer from a phosphoric acid treatment. Remember to get an Android(or for Your Iphone) endoscope camera to have a good look under the top side of the tank. That area is always rusty.
Hi yes it’s called Deox-C , here is a link to eBay www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181161232758?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=gt2bXHAaQNG&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=gvQ-F5DYSA2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Thanks Andy but I'm not to bothered, I feel it's more important to have a good tank that's dent and rust free.I do have another tank that the bike came with and that's exactly the same with the locking cap. As you know the caps look the same at a glance, one is locking and one isn't. The problem is finding an early tank in the same condition, even if I did find one the seller would want silly money for it and I don't want to go down that route. It's becoming very expensive to restore bikes these days 🙂
Yes they are as you say discontinued you can get them on eBay. This is a link to the one I purchased www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115102044171?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=rOoU34-dTe6&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=gvQ-F5DYSA2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
