    Gold indeed
Praising God for this interview and 😢he counseling --just to know that people are being drawn by God's word to Himself is an enormous blessing
I have the privilege of having been counseled by one of the students of Jay Adams
Anyhow keep counselors who are in Christ in prayer
They have to deal with people like me
Better them in the fall into the hands of the living God😊

Hello, is Nouthetic: for solving one's earthly challenges, situation, or foundation for daily living: only meditating in the Living Word of God guided by the Spirit of Yehovah?
In short: know the Living Word of God (John 6:63)

At the 14:44 time mark was the name of the book/sermon that Dr. Adams was trying to recall (as he said: fumbling/mumbling about) "'The Expulsive Power of a New Affection" by Thomas Chalmers?

"Affection.." Expulsive power of a new affection. Thomas Watson

  • @terryphillips3548

The sermon title that the speaker was struggling with is, I think: " The expulsive power of a new affection," attributed to Rev. Thomas Chalmers (1780 - 1847).

Scripture is sufficient for so much more. Scripture teaches us proper ethics, the need for repentance, etc. Connecting to God is imperative. But don't be a reductionist. Scripture was given to us for all of life. And we are to conform our minds to its ethical paradigm

I was trained in Biblical or nouthetic counseling at RPTS. A few questions I would like answered: what is the empirical and statistical evidence of the effectiveness of Biblical counseling compared to "integrative" and "secular" counseling?
Why does Biblical and pastoral care only apply to mental health issues and not physical health matters (they seem to be ok with folks going to "integrationist" or "secular" medical doctors who address other medical problems)Why does Adams blame integrationist or secular methods for failing people if he thinks that the patient is primarily or solely responsible for his own recovery?
Further, Adams doctrine of counseling is based on Roman Catholic eschatology (amillenial partial preterism) which denies demonic activity. other biblical counseling leaders like john macarthur disagree with him by holding to premillenialism and acknowledge the reality of devils.
Last, nouthetic counseling is based upon a selective reading of Scripture that ignores the fact that most admonitions against sin are corporate rather than an individual as well as the distinction betwee intentional and unintentional sin made in the book of Leviticus and affirmed in other passages.

Also the Bible seems to prescribe alcohol (which is in many medications) for those who are grieving in Proverbs, and Paul prescribes wine for a physical ailment to Timothy who was timid and for his stomach.
And he leaves out any distinction between weaker and stronger Christians and 1, 3, 5 talent Christians and lumps them all into a 1-size fits all program.

J Shirls I do not think Jay Adams disbelieves in the existence of demons since he believes the Bible and the Bible teaches there are fallen angels. Also his eschatology is correct (amillenialism) as opposed to the false teaching of Premillenialism that John Macarthur teachers.

Interesting about saying about 'being wise as a serpent and gentle as a dove". I have found this group and ideology to not be as Christ Centered but "whack a Mole Christianity". I have found them to be pharisaical and extremely harmful to believers often causing spiritual abuse.

A pastor has NO business counseling at all, he is not qualified!!

    • @chaplainstudent5689
      @chaplainstudent5689 5 лет назад +9

The pastor is probably the best to be counseling. Most issues today are spiritual and if anyone is qualified to speak to spiritual issues, it's pastors. Issues such as marriage, child rearing, sexual morays of society (waaay more) are usually pride and sin. A spouse cheats. A spouse works too much. Spouses do not talk to each other. Children broken into 4 families if not more. Co-habitation, etc..etc..etc.... ALL of that is right up His alley plus more.

The counseling that's being done, is according to all Truth. The only way that this type of counseling can be done is by the Spirit of Yehovah, guidance by the Living Word of God 📖🙏💨❤

Darlene not sure what you're getting to. If you mean those receiving counsel need to be saved I would agree.
However, even christian intergrationist and pagans could teach biblical ideals as behavior changes. Doesn't change a heart though.
So, a pagan drug addict is counselled not to do drugs. They don't and are better off. Are they believers? No but better off. Pretty much what AA is.

The apostle Paul himself in Romans 15:14 said "And concerning you, my brethren, I myself also am convinced that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able also to admonish one another."
