Wow such command in grappling! His internal training is showing. This is the kind of strength and fluid power tai chi is supposed to cultivate. Nice throws, and I love how he pushes him away like we see in those cheesy demos, like, yeah, it is possible to send someone flying if you catch their bodyweight in the right place at the right time... legit.

I'm not a Tai Chi practitioner so I couldn't spot as many applications from the style but it was cool to see what I could from what I do know. It is good that he's doing Muay Thai and using Tai Chi supplementary to it. Muay Thai is a sport that forces you to actually fight so there is no compliance in the training and probably a better way of finding what does and doesn't work.

Paul Schramm I think it’s a little to early to call it king but I definitely can see it returning to its former glory if the right teachers and a better way of training it is taught.

@@LunaticReason It's a complementary art. Hence, the grand ultimate fist. You need to know "lesser", basic styles to use it. Basics win fights, but if you can do the advanced stuff it will help you win for sure.
But, as you already constituted, you need to know how to fight before implementing Tai Ji in your style.

The most misunderstood part about chinese martial arts is people keep thinking it needs to look like the forms when they fight. Even today, many chinese martial arts practitioner dont really understand the true essence of practicing forms.
Compared with other arts that focus on fighting first, it does take a lot longer to be proficient in the full internal aspects of conditioning to apply them in actual combat. But in the long run it is more sustainable health wise, though it is definitely not business friendly.
Those who attain the ability through dedication will understand the value. Those who are fake, usually wont last long in the scene. Everything else is just noise, and business as usual.

Exactly. If we were to read the old Qi Jiguang manuals, none of the moves were flashy. They involved head guarding, takedowns, sweeps, all direct and straightforward.

Ouch that last kick where the guy thought he was aiming for the head again, but landed straight in the ribs! Definitely saw the Practical Method training exhibited throughout.

I respect very much the teachings of Mr Chen Zhonghua but this what happens to all Tai Chi stuff- it doesn't work at all! This is puré kick Boxing not Tai Chi!

This is a Muay Thai fight, but the takedowns from the clinch would probably end real fights if followed up properly.

A common misunderstanding is how these techniques translate to real combat. Fa Jin, or the explosive force seen in Tai chi can be used a variety of ways: to break a joint in a lock, to throw or takedown an opponent or to strike with the force of a bowling ball. You see that last one when he punches his opponent and knocks the guy back about 5 ft into the ropes. It's the same spiraling and sinking energy seen in silk reeling that does that

Of course it is kickboxing! Those are the ruleset of the match but even when there is evidence that taichi can work, most people are blind. Observe the body mechanics and you will see taichi in his kickboxing. Did you really think he would move the same way they do in movies or cheesy demos? Try opening your eyes first

@@markalexandermaron5531 exactly. When the goal of the competitive event is to punch and kick, well... you are going to see punches and kicks regardless of what style the person trains in.
