12 year owner here of 1997 E36 M3/4/5. Car has been extremely reliable and a joy to drive. I have learned much over the years from doing the clutch, brakes, suspension, radio, ac and tune ups. The car gets 30MPG in the highway. I truly enjoy driving it all the time. In fact, I look forward to going to work just so I can drive the car.

I also have a clean example M3/4/5. Funny thing is I bought an e46 m3 last year and enjoy the e36 more.

I was an owner of a 1995 325i convertible. Awesome car. There's something about bmw's driving experience thats something special. I love the handling and sound of the car. I regret letting it go. I want to get a 1999 m3 convertible. Will get one one day.

I bought a running decent condition 95 M3 coupe in 2022 for 10k.. yes 10k. I could probably get twice as much today but I will never sell my car. People following me taking pictures people flinging there heads when I drive is weird but it's super nostalgic to drive. I am obsessed with my car

Same or a 330i both make great starter drift cars with their wheel base

Would be nice to own another one, but people are asking an arm and a leg nowadays. I enjoyed my time owning an 98 sedan m3 with 5 spd. I’ll have to win the lottery to be able to afford another one again.

Prices are all over the place. A high mileage convertible isn’t too crazy.

All 36 are great not only the m3's
Nothin against the m one i would love it too, but i heard they need so much maintenance. Much more then the normal non M cars

The US Spec M3 engines are based off of the M50s/M52, the design is identical, and very few parts are different other than the rotating assembly, cams and Valve springs.
Overall, not too much more maintenance wise, but much more expensive to get into initially.

This is fake news! 12 year owner here of E36 M3. Bought the car w 80k miles and during that time have replaced clutch, rear wheel bearing, battery (2 times), brake pads and tires. I change the fluids regularly and also had to replace AC compressor. These are all standard wear items that I serviced myself. It has been a great and ultra reliable car. I paid $8k back in the day. At the current appreciation rates I would get all that $ back. But I never think about that. I just love driving it.
