Thank you for this I love the idea of spraying them silver and showing us how they will look on the Christmas tree. Such good instructions.💮
That is a fabulous and unique idea! I am so excited to try that for Christmas
I just found your channel when I Googled "drying alliums". What a lovely garden! Thank you for the information. The alliums are so pretty that I want to preserve and use them. I am in Virginia, USA.
Great idea. Love it when the alliums are dried, and I have 2 heads in an arrangement on my windowsill all year 'round. Just picked the latest Purple Sensation and enjoy seeing it change......
What an exciting idea to spray the dried allium globes. I can't wait!!!
I absolutely adore your enthusiasm for gardening, Sarah! I'm on my third year and am always interested in ways to make my produce most useful. Thanks from Canada :)
Wow! So glad I planted alliums in the fall. I can use them in arrangements at Christmas, as well.
I remember seeing sarah discussing this trip a few years ago and we have saved the heads each year now and boy do they look good at Christmas :D
I am so in love with all you do. Thank you very much for making my world more beautiful. PS I like the way you dress. You are such an inspiration to me.
I absolutely love alliums. Leek blooms are quite lovely. They last quite a long time in flower arrangements when fresh and look quite lovely when dried as well. Now I will try spraying them. Thank you so much for such a great idea.
They absolutely beautiful. I have the same size . I haven't done anything with them yet but now I see what they will look like. Thank you from the US.
Great video. I want to know all I can about planting flowers from seed and how to use them after the summer. I am retired now and my wife and I need something to keep up entertained. Thanks for the great lesson.

Fascinating, I am stunned at that magical look - edit - and mine are finished and ready for Christmas
Brilliant idea thank you. I have giant alliums which are nearly ready to be taken up and stored in the shed. 👍
What a lovely idea, thank you for sharing it. I will definitely try mine as Christmas decorations later in the year.
Can't wait to try this! Love that they get repurposed at Christmas time - so magical! Thank you for your video.
Thank you for the splendid idea of spraying massive alliums. I have two gigantic dried alliums so huge I don’t know where to store them. Good idea hanging them. God willing I will plant All sorts of alliums for next year.
love your style- hate rigid , uptight, little flower arrangements, gardens, & flowers
Thanks for such a fabulous idea! Mine were headed for the compost bin!
Thank you for this. I have been doing this for several years but sprayed in gold paint and put in bunches in vases. I was thinking this year would have to give away this years harvest as have enough and they last all year. Alliums now well established so get more blooms each year. (Ok out into garden on a windy day to shift dust) . I will do some as tree decorations so good tip! My mother used to paint bare twigs/branches white and hang coloured glass balls on same.
Fantastic little video. Much appreciated 😍👏
OMG, what a brilliant idea! I just ordered allium schubertii bulbs, but they don't ship til November--so I won't have the giant flowers to spray til Xmas 2024. But you've given me something to look forward to! 🤩
What a great idea. In this last week I've taken mine out of the garden done nothing with them. Hope I can rescue them & have a go. Thank you😀
Gives me new enthusiasm for Christmas - very lovely
Schubertii is my all time favorite. I leave mine standing as to my eye the sculptural quality is an enhancement to the area it's in. Then in fall I scatter it's seeds. It takes about 7 years for the seeds to grow a big enough bulb to have a first smallish bloom stalk.
But do they at lest grow to above ground each of those 7 years? I would put weed preventer fabric down if not, but would just deal with the weeds if the allium seedlings are come up above ground starting the first year. Clarify, please?
@@ApplyUrBrain Year 1 they come up looking like thin or puny chives with a single leaf...might be hard to distinguish from grass if you don't look sharp. Year 2 single leaf slightly stronger, more like chives. Year 3 might have 2 chive like leaves. Year 4 a bit stronger looking. Year 5 leaf or leaves flatter more leaf-like still quite small. Year 6 leaves still small may only have 3 or so, slightly broader. Year 7 plant still small tips of leave may only be 6 inches long, may put up a small flower head Year 8 growing & probably will have a larger flower head but not full grown size than last year leaves broad & flat. Year 9 full grown large flower head. This all supposed not too much supplemental watering in late spring until October rains set in.
What a genius idea! I can spray them other colours too! Omg now I just need to grow some alliums!
Gorgeous idea! Greetings from Wroclaw, Poland.
Two thumbs up from Minnesota, USA!
Now I have to grow large alliums so that I can use up the old stocks of sprays that my daughter left behind when she moved out!
Thank you, from Portugal...love your videos...what an inspiration!
What a brilliant idea! Thank you so much for this. I was wondering what to do with them and now I know! Also good idea about nigella pods. Love from Roz in Lancashire.
Wow they look amazing I will give that a try ...love all your gardening tips and you are an inspiration 🌹👌🏻👌🏻
What a cool idea!!!! Thank you!!!
Wow you really love Christmas 🎄
Could you please show us a bigger photo of your finished Christmas tree?
Thank you for your fabulous idea. Will try do use as you suggest.
BUt what the botanical name for the crowning glow of all alliums? I could not find it :( It looks absolutely stunning.
Absolutely beautiful such a lovely idea ❤️
Beautiful!
The name of the unusually large allium she is holding is called Giant Allium - 'Schubertii'
Love one of those!
Well, it's 13th April and I'm hoping that the alliums I planted in my garden a while ago (Ambassador and Schubertii) will look as good as yours!
What kind of sheen do you use with the spray paint ... flat, glossy? The finished picture looked sparkly. Wish I had watched this before I threw mine out!
I may have missed it, but will the dried seeds of allium grow new plants?
Lovely idea!
Re-sourcing is very useful.
wow love this idea
Neat idea! Thanks!!
Gorgeous!
Can I ask what stage would you pick honesty for drying thanks
i am astonished: i am no more the only inventor of drying and spraying plants for winter decoration... since about ten years i began to create plants decoration. not only for christmas tree decoration. here in switzerland, winter decoration indoor and outdoor are in great demand. i use a lot of different plants, flowers, seeds. especially from autumn clearance. e.g. i make wreaths with bean plants. nature looks very different and nobler in other colors than usual. silver ist the best covering paint. i also try to paint in white. but this is more difficult. i treat big surfaces as e.g. rhubarb plant stems with brush and dispersion paint.
Great idea more like this please ❤
could I spray them with something that will preserve them for permanent use as decorations in the garden
Beautiful thank you wonderful idea 🙂
Very nice thank you 😊
What kind of paint are you using?
Oh I just noticed the list. It must be schubertii!
What is name of that huge allium???
Beautiful will give this a go
Cool idea, thanks!
What type of clear product can you spray the with, please.
Lovely and informative video but I was disappointed not to see a single picture of the alliums either in your Christmas tree or in another type of decoration.
Hi,
i planted 10 allium (purple sensation) bulbs in a large container in part sun/part shade back in october (10/19/2015).about a month or so ago (3/2016) 7 of them started to break through the soil (about an inch or so of growth), but then the tips of the shoots browned and they have "disappeared".any idea what happened or if this is "normal" and they will begin to grow soon?
thanks!
Do you save any of the seeds?
Where do you buy the large large alliums I have the smaller ones thank you Susie
Look on Google!
Whats the reallly long grass like plant at the back?
Thought you would grow seeds
C'est Superbe...Merci.
Sarah realize this is an old video but Im wondering what is the name of the very last, very large allium 's name is Thank you Deb Peters

Don’t the seeds fall out ?
What it the plant name at 2:02 on the video?
Thank you, love it. But I hope you can help. I live in Dordogne, France and we have nasty little hamster like animals in the garden eating all my bulbs, i have lost dozens of them. What can i do - apart from not plant bulbs, which I love . Thanks
2:00 "Crown and Glory" is that the name of the Allium? Where can I buy the bulbs? I went to the site to order bulbs but the currency was in e1.97. Do you know the conversion scale for dollars?
No, it is called Schubertii, and Sarah described it as the "crowning glory".
They look like fireworks 🎆🎇
That's exactly why I love Schubertii so. They bloom just ahead of our Independence Day usually and often are drying out by 4 July but still beautiful sculpturally. Many passers by ask about them.
I see those opium poppies lol ;)
