8:08 that was the John Deere x60. It had over 200 horse power and was designed in the early 60s and discontinued in the late 60s. One thing that really impresses me is the shear size of this thing, the tires and the width of the axle. Imagine this thing was built like the 4020s were, this tractor would still be used on big enough farms for field work to the day, and imagine how useful these things would be to farmers new to the industry that bought one.
That 4960 on tracks is still up in northeast Iowa. It’s been returned to factory stock but it’s still out there. Belongs to the uncle of one of our former employees! Still super low-houred too!
Interesting video my favorite series of John Deere is the 7010 series. I would love to have a late model 2002 2003 John Deere 7810 with a autoquad transmission and a 741 loader on it. The ultimate livestock and haying tractor in my opinion.
Hey Happy Thanksgiving! Neat photos, some I have seen some I haven't. Just think these are the tip of the ice berg, i bet there archives have a treasure trove of stuff like this!
The JD 4000 was not experimental but a production model for 3 years with the same engine as a 4020 but much lighter and designed for higher field speeds.
@BDOutdoors-2 4000 was a 3020 rear end without sheetmetal and a 4020 front end ... the 4000 experimentals scene here are not normal '4000s' - they are one off models ...deere does this a lot on experimentals, for example the experimental S680s all had 9870 decals
Back in the early 1980’s,in Lake Charles , La. If my memory is right. There were 12 test trucks. Ten had the 6466,and two had the 6619 engines. The drivers loved them. They ran short routes pulling dump trailers. There were 2 trucks running out of the Memphis parts depot that were equipped with the 8855 V8 engine. I did hear that the drivers loved the torque of these. The high torque allowed them to climb most inclines without having to down shifting.
Very interesting, I had not seen all these especially the 4000 SGB prototype. Would I be able to get pictures or scanned copy of your dress up a Deere friend literature? Mostly interested in the part numbers. Looking to dress up 4430 a bit.
Fun fact... thay are real Temper mental if lead finds its way in the crank Case......at least the one I shot was... Am blind now pretty much ..but at the time it was early an foggy...it dent Dawn on me that it was green ... 😆
I don't know what your talking about I've in mid illinois and know people who had both of the first 2 tractors on your list , my friend still has a 4520 .
The 4000 you are talking about was in the 20 series line not 30 as pictured and never produced and the 4520 was produced but that was an experimental cab not put in production. I also owned a 20 series 4000
@johnbrown9623 hi! Good to hear from you! I hope all is well! ... time got away from me, I needed to get back to making videos! ...... oh boy, that question can enter a bomb of social media disaster - haha... i don't think he will accomplish anything, just more of the same of round one. It seems what needs to be done, is never even spoke about, I started a long video about the grain markets, and how I think they'll go longer term, but its going to be a 3 hour video that I haven't completed yet, lol, maybe I shouldn't even post it, lol .....
@ssnydertrucking1121 hey! Good to hear from you! I hope all is well ... we are hanging in there , sure wish these grain prices would go the other way, its been pretty depressing! ... have a happy Thanksgiving!
Ha! I told you guys I'd be back! Lol ... actually started making new videos again this fall .. just busy and time got away from me - good to be back though! Have a great Thanksgiving weekend
I have heard that before, but I don't understand the statement, as there are many things wrong with the 20 series tractors that were corrected as the later series continued - in fact the early 4020s were heavily updated towards the later serial numbers. Overall, yes a 4020 was a good tractor, an improvement over the 4010 and then the 4230 was improved over the 4020 ... we have owned 20, 30. 50, 55 series, and we have worked on the later ones less than the early ones, meaning each was improved as it went, that's how equipment evolves. So I'm not sure why you feel this way unless you had a bad one off experience

I am a red fan but found this really interesting!
I love stuff like this

@@Blackearthexcavationandtiling That experimental 4000 looks like a 4030 with a 3020 engine in it. Shame they didn't put that tractor into production.
Pretty tight.
Put many hours on a 4520, that was a beast in it's time.
I saw the truck brochure on display at work. Wonder how many, if any, had that engine installed- or if one even still exists

@ The 8855 in a truck would be cool to see
Does anyone have the 8000 series prototype image at 6:25 in high resolution? Cannot find it.
I can send you these pictures in a higher resolution via email if you'd like ...feel free to shoot me a message at JPOSTEN1982@GMAIL.COM
That XR87 has some Allis Chalmers vibes.
Yes it sure does
The 7000/7010 series Deeres are practically green copy of an 8000 series Allis! They drive and feel almost identical!
Very interesting, I had not seen all these especially the 4000 SGB prototype.

Kinze could have put a decent engine in the x60😂
Neat!
Aint all JOHN DEERES alittle strange, Just my 2 cents. Have not talked to you for awhile hope you and yours are doing well. Happy Thanksgiving

THE 4020/5020 WERE THE LAST GOOD TRACTORS DEERE SOLD
They were great tractor's for there time but would never survive in today's world!!!
5020 were gutless wonders
Hell no. 55/60 series were the last of the best.
4450 has entered the chat and would like a word.

made in mexico soon good ridence they have rode that name long enough now you cant even change you,re own oil
Fake news. Do some research on your own instead of regurgitating the false narrative.
Can't change your own oil? Huh? We litterally just did on our new 8R last week ... this must be one of those bot accounts I hear about
Deere had some ideas about cabs. Not *good* ideas, mind you.
Can't watch the video. Your camera is drunk or having a seizure.
@markedwards768 ok dont watch - problem solved
Cry us a river an see how little we care
