A Michelangelo tenet is beauty lacks the superfluous. No composer expresses this with greater strength and beauty than Josquin.

Extremely subtle performance, especially the performance of "second Agnus" led me along the path of transcendence.

What a beautiful atmosphere, cantor and schola singing as if to each other in a circle which is then encircled itself by the audience in the majestic Domkerk. Brilliant performance by Macleod and company. Thank you! AMDG.

These would be very strange things for people to sing to each other.

These beautiful texts belong within the liturgy. It is the context and focus for which and from which they were born.

Josquin des Prés was born around 1440, received his first education in the collegiate choir of Saint-Quentin and was undoubtedly a pupil of Okeghem. He began his career as cantered Duomo of Milan. Afterwards he was at the service of Duke of Sforza, in the pontifical chapel in Rome of the Duke of Ferrara, from where he traveled throughout Italy with the Duke of Sforza. He was for a time master of the choirs of Cambrai and Saint-Quentin. He lived the last years of his life in Condé-sur-L’Escaut as a canon. His work astonished and amazed the whole world until appearance of Lassus and Palestrina, then it was completely forgotten until the end of the 18th century. Dufay’s continuator is a genius far inferior to that one due the contrapuntal ability he presents and his melodic inspiration, especially in his motets.
The choral harmony is admirable that takes us to the depths of our soul. The composition is amazing and touches us unbelievably. Josquin’s choral music is unmistakable and incomparable, how is possible in the early 15th century produced masterpieces like that. Thanks for the magnificent interpretation and remarkable recording.
