The F-4 spent a lot of time intercepting Soviet bombers and maritime patrol craft during the 1970s and 80s. A lot of people don't realize that the US military still had over 800 phantoms in service in the early 1980s.

While its my responsibility to communicate clearly and concisely with those in the public sphere, the ultimate opinion that matters is mine.
The song was released around 1983-84. The California Air National Guard flew F-4Es for about three years (87-90), so had to stretch the timeline a bit with the static aircraft skins.
