Hello pal, me and my dudes are listening to this in the kitchen, and we just wanted you to know how proud of you we are, although you don't know us, and we certainly don't know you, you have achieved something very special, and are hero to us all. - several free bird enthusiasts xx
When performed live, Skynyrd would generally turn the end solo into an extended jam session that could last as much as 45 minutes; he just added how they would end it onto the existing solo.
There's three official cuts of this song. The ~4 minute cut that ends after the final verse, which is the primary radio cut, then the 'full' version with most of the solos, then the 'extended' version which we're hearing here. Then there's all the unofficial cuts Skynyrd themselves did at live shows as mentioned by another commenter.
As you finally defeat the final boss, your character runs off screen while it fades to black. An 8-bit rendition of "Free Bird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd starts playing. The final bosses lair starts collapsing in a cutscene. Then, you're thrown back into gameplay, trying to escape the collapsing lair. Your time limit is exactly 4 minutes. You race to the end, the song still playing while digitized explosions bombard your screen. Adrenaline rushes through your veins, and you dodge everything on your first try. Your time limit is almost up. You reach the end of the level just in time for the 8-bit solo to begin playing, and an awesome cutscene of your character saving everything in his path plays while the credits roll on the left side of your screen.
Hey man, just dropping a comment to let you know that this shit is absolutely dirty. Congrats my dude. Whatever you are doing keep on doing it my friend, I know I don't know you but me and my friends are so fucking proud of you.

Usually you can pretty much just copy and paste the tabs or whatever into a midi sequencer program and choose 8 bit sounding instrument sounds. there are also programs that can take an mp3 file and make it sound like 8-bit.
i never liked these 8 bit covers because theres so many tracks for an 8-bit song when there should only be four tracks, of course if you want it to sound legit
8-bit tears ran down my face when this song played

By 6:45, your console would have blown up and caught fire to the house. That's just too much awesomeness to be contained in 8-bit.
I would have said the same thing about the Silver Surfer OST, so who knows?
If Guitar Hero had come out 20 years earlier than it did...

I like how he extended the solo another two minutes on top of the already long 4 minute time limit.

I believe this is the “extended music” version of Free Bird found on Skynyrd’s Innards directly converted to 8-bit

The ending sounds like a computer dying, and it's beautiful.
this has a "end of a movie" vibe to it. feels like im looking at the sunset at the beach. I love this.
Specifically the end of The Devil's Rejects
