I'll go kaki all the way, having the black does not mean is cleaner, simply you cannot see the dirt, however with the kaki you will be more conscious and cleaned more often.
Also, not meant to lay on it with the boots on and a thin overlying sheet would help in keeping it clean.
I was gonna say that. Exactly. Black hides the grime.
also not turning it upside down on the dirt would help.
Yep I love the lighter color personally and will keep it clean as possible
I'd be curious to see an actual load test. I'm a 270 lb man who's broken plenty of camp furniture that was supposedly rated to 330 lbs.
I got the NatureHike camp chair that was reviewed on this channel. They make 2 different chairs (1 for 265 lbs and 1 330 lbs.) I've seen problems with joint where the legs go on the 330 lbs. chair. This cot looks like it has the same type of joint. I'm 240 and still wouldn't attach the legs on this cot.
Yeah, load ratings are a lot of hocus pocus, especially when dealing with ChinaCo. products. Sure, you might be able to evenly distribute X amount of static weight on something without it breaking, but then you try to put X amount of weight on it all in one spot, like sitting up on a cot, or evenly distributed, but shifting around a lot, and suddenly SNAP! and now you've got a busted cot and a gaping hole in your tent floor. Hopefully that's all that happened, too, and you didn't end up like my friend who had a ChinaCo. fiberglass tent pole driven all the way through his forearm from elbow to wrist when it snapped while he was pitching his tent.
i havent slept in mine but i have one and have laid on it for a few hours. I was worried too, im 285ish and its holding me ok. I have checked all the plastic and dont see any cracks or such.
I just bought the cot from Mission Mountain. I bought the mesh cover version. I contacted them to see if I could buy the oxford cover separately. They said no but if they found one they would send it to me for free. Long story short... I've got two different covers for the price of one . Great customer service and awesome online discount codes.
discount codes? where do i find those? i just bought a mongar 2 for 170-$CAD
Not too worried about the color. I look at the stains as character, and a record of adventure.
I believe Helinox came out with this design years ago but at a much higher price point when it first debuted. It was a revolution in light weight cot design. It's such a good design that it's essentially unchanged from the original. Good time to get one at these prices. Helinox were 3 to 4 times today's prices even back then.
Something a lot of first time cot buyers overlook is that before you buy a cot, you need to make sure your tent has enough room on the ends for one to be usable. Tents with angled walls, which probably most tents have, effectively become shorter the higher you get off the floor.
Good point!
I always use a cot when car camping, no reason to sacrifice comfort. The fact that this one is height adjustable is really nice.
I use a cot whenever I can fit it into the tent. I find I'm a better leader when out camping when I've had a good night's sleep. (I'm a leader in a American Heritage Girls troop that tries to go camping at least twice a year with our girls.)
I wonder if height adjustability would help it fit in smaller tents.
Steam spray it then scotchguard it. You have to redo it every couple of years but it works well against stains and smudges
In your upcoming review please tell us how the cover washes and if those stains simply wash out? 💖🌞🌵😷
Hey Luke, a couple of weeks and little more dirt, you'll have a homemade camo cot. A one of a kind pattern! LOL
I bought the OneTigre Cot based on your recommendation and it’s simply terrific. I really like that it has 4 sets of legs which makes it extra strong! This Nature Hike looks like a good value but unfortunately only has 3 sets of legs but since the OneTigres is no longer available, I may give the NatureHike a try as a second cot. Hopefully my OneTigres last for the rest of my life..
Whenever I watch your “negative” reviews I’m still left wanting to buy it, you have a good way of pointing out the flaws and not degrading the overall quality of the gear because of it 👍
I have an original Helinox High Cot. Purchased in 2016 before the prices doubled. I use it for a week once each year. It's still like new. The main advantage of the Helinox is the leg extensions are attached with shock cords so they won't get lost. With 12 separate legs for this version, you can bet one will go missing not to mention the extra setup time. You might want to pack a knife so you can whittle a temporary replacement at the camp site. Using it with just 1 missing leg will probably torque the cross brace and may damage it. My wife wants one now so I'm looking at the many rip off brands to save some $$$. Some of the copies don't have the lever to attach the cross bars and tension the top so those can be a wrestling match for those without big muscles. Even the instructions printed on the top is copied from Helinox.
The high cot is a big plus for us older people who can't get up off the ground so easily. That comes with age, bad backs, bad knees, worn out hips, etc. Overall this design is good (must be based on the number of copycats), just look at the details for any particular cot. Fold up size, weight, height, number of separate parts, color.
That is a nice camp cot and I actually would prefer the lighter color. I would just cover it with a plastic tablecloth to protect it from stains. The three tier concept is brilliant, making the higher tier great for van use. Bins could be stored underneath. I have a Coleman cot ($54) from Walmart I have used in my van for over two years padded with three inch foam ( $22). A Mexican wool blanket ($25) covers everything.
I would like to see a cleaning method tried on camera. If light dirt can be wiped off, I also would prefer the lighter color.
Hello Luke. Well, when it comes to color at least you can spot the bugs 🪲🕷easily. On the black colored one you may not.
Plus, I would love to see how you made the cot configuration you used for the truck's backseat area.
Exactly my thought regarding bugs.
Hey Luke can you do a Rainey camping trip with your best gear
For those who want the backpacking version, look up the Desert Walker cot, it holds a lot of weight, it's just as nice, the only thing is it has no extender legs (meant to be light)....but the thing is this, right now you can get it right at 70 bucks. I love mine, you wouldn't think a cot would work for a pack, but it does.
What brand? Is there a link?
I tried searching for it, but it's not available any more. : (
@@ljohns36 Desert Walker IS the brand. It's simply their cot, no fancy name.
@@IMDARKFIRE007
Do you have a link?
@@IMDARKFIRE007 The Desert Walker is more or less identical to the Naturehike minus the long legs. It's a generic cot that's produced in China and rebranded by plenty of companies for the same price point.
Thank you for not using sponsors.
Just ordered this product, and think I'm going to go ahead and get the matching folding chair. Thanks Luke!
We have that one in black, it is super similar to helinox cot one convertable but for a fraction of the price and setup is way easier compared to a lightweight cot like the the thermarest ultralight cots we had previously that were not intuitive to setup at all .
We use them mainly hot tenting in winter and they have held up well for 2 seasons. The legs are great so you can store gear under it.
Just bought this, received it and put it together it's awesome! Super light weight for a cot, totally solid, easy to build and comfortable and for $100, what a bargain for what you're getting.
One thing most cots don't have and what I really like is a set of elastic straps on the corners so you can secure a camping mat to them. Up to now I've only seen one cot that featured this, and it's something that is really useful to keep your mat from sliding around on the cot.
I wonder if straps could be added to a mat aftermarket to attach to your cot
I made quick release "straps" using paracord. One on each end, that wrap around the cot and pad. and so far, has worked pretty good.
One nifty trick that I just saw but haven't tried yet, putting some "dots" of silicone on the bottom of your pad. This will give it a bit of traction and keep it from sliding around. Video I saw was an inflatable pad with dots every 4 inches or so and it seemed to hold in position fairly well after.
Don't wear shoes in bed or on a cot. If you put it upside down on a wet road/ground it will ofcourse get stained 🤷♂️. So many on u-tube even go inside their tents with shoes. So easy to avoid. 😉
Nice cot! I already own the onetigris, and I love it. If it ever fails, I'll check this one out, but I'm expecting my onetigris to outlive me.
Own two of these and they are great! Has the same design/ form function as the ultralight Helinox Cot but at a fraction of the price.
Thank you Luke for talking with me about having a go-to kit for when a hurricane hits at work. This will be added to my list.
Awesome preview Luke! How is it that every time I add a product to my wishlist, you do a review on it within a short time haha... that's funny, exactly what I was looking for! Thanks as always.
HAHAHA - I bought 2 of these, maybe a year ago.... Tonite, after a few glasses of wine - decided to setup one. They are unreal for the size/weight!!!!. Worth every penny folks!!!!! - Big Love from Australia
Got the NatureHike Greenwild cot for $56 on Amazon during a black Friday sale. Low version of
This cot but with 5 crossbars and no locking mechanisms.
I certainly like the ease of assembly compared to my old Alps Mountaineering cot.
So, after many years of use, I am considering replacing it but it's 30-inch width will be hard to give up.
I have the same cot and it's the big width that keeps me from upgrading. All the new cots are slim!
@@barfly79 At least the much wider Alps is still available so I might just forget about ease of setup and buy another one.
Looks impressive.
Great straightforward content as usual. If you still have the Naturehike Canyon 1P tent, it would be nice to try the bed cot with it in another video :).
Thanks Luke. Just ordered one after watching your review. And yes, I got the black one. Cheers!
I’ve also washed the cot in the washing machine. I just used cold in the delicate setting.
Can we just give a hooray for generous sized storage bags....one of my biggest gripes is trying to stuff gear back into bags that are too small...especially at the end of a long weekend when you're tired and hot and need a shower!
My advice if you go with the khaki color....Do not lay it directly on the dirty ground when putting it together or put your dirty shoe/boots on it when testing it out .
Well, in my humble opinion, it all depends on the color of the dirt. Yes, dark soil (or soiled areas) stand out on a lighter color fabrics. But as many know, dried dirt, clays and even some pet hair will show more prominently on back fabric. I’m sitting here thinking of the underside of my black footprint after taking down my tent. So it seems to be a “six of one - half dozen of another” kind of thing. I’d think a lighter color cot would be cooler in the summer months than the black fabric as well.
i really like that locking system for it i have one where i have to force the logs to bend to fit its hard and kinda annoying and the the height it too short and too tall its hard to get in and out of once , that system seems so much better
very nice I prefer the nature hike ultralight cot.Has more support better for backpacking
Hey Luke, looks like a nice cot. Thanks for the video. I wanted to get the One Tigris, but I missed the boat on that one. I like that the Nature Hike also has the 2 different height levels. I will be putting this on my wishlist for sure. Happy Easter. 👍🏻🛌🏻💤💤
The light coloured one is the one to go for so you can see any dirt and wipe it off rather than transferring it to a sleeping mat or worse your sleeping bag, why make the dirt invisible with a dark version !!!
There's an Iceco branded one in Amazon in khaki or black that also has side pocket and underneath mesh storage panel for the same price. They even have two pack bundles for a little less than buying two at the main price.
I purchased the One Tigris and I use a camping mattress with it. So, so very comfortable!!!
Hey, how are you doing?
I bought the Naturehike cot they have listed as Greenwild Camping Cot. I use it for solo trips with me and the dog and it has been good for us. I usually have an inflatable pad with it to soften it up and add some insulation. Thanks for the good work.
I would be curious to see how this cot fits in some tents with different slope angles on the sides.
I ordered the black version of this cot (from Amazon). I haven't received it yet but I agree that black is the better color for this kind of thing. The black cot is also $39 cheaper; for some reason $90 compared to $129 for the khaki. We'll see whether it's a quality piece of gear.
I have this cot. My husband and I love it.
Thank you for helping us find good gear that is actually available 👍
Like everyone else I have had a Safari cot, they only came in Buff/ Khaki canvas. and I don't remember ours getting particularly stained.
MARCHWAY makes a much more affordable option. Amazon has it for $70 and I own 3 of them. The quality is high, concistant, and competitive. Plus, it comes in black so you don't have to deal with the tan nonsense that gets stained easily.
Hey Luke, great review! I recently purchased a very similar cot by Cascade Mountain Tech. The specs are almost identical other than the two tier option.. The one I have only has the lower base. I think the second tier would be a nice option to use as a bench for prolonged duration in the tent. I purchased the Cascade Mountain Tech folding cot at Costco for 69.99 CDN. I did a brief video set up and found it very well made, light weight and comfortable. I am looking forward to my first overnight with this product and do a review of it then. Enjoy your videos, cheers from Ontario Canada !
Cot company: "Yay, Luke endorses our cots!" ...... Same cot company a little bit later: "Ah man, we're never gonna' sell the tan ones."
that packdown size looks good
They have a black version with hanging pockets off the side that is $90. Seems like a good alternative.
Sir, recommendation: take cot in low profile configuration and place Litefighter 1 on top. This will allow you to use both and have the rain fly staked out appropriately, unlike when used with a taller cot. Pros outweigh the cons in my humble opinion. Hope it helps.
5lb 1 person tent for $400 because its "tactical" 🤮🤮🤮🤮
When you went from laying to sitting, it seemed like the cot was flexing a fair amount and that the feet end was lifting off the ground
That's an excellent cot, might be a little short for me. I'll just make do. I'm 6.4 and weigh in at 96 kelios (213 pounds I believe). Thank you for giving the heads up on the color scheme. I'm now living in a camper temporally. I've just been given the go ahead on adding an addition to my Old man's pool house. Anyways have a great evening Luke. I apologize for misjudging you sir. You are good at what you do, not many people get to modify there hobby into business. I learned this from a man named Dave Ripple, who is a Carpenter like me. be radical?
It's strange it gets dirty when you put it on the soil and lie down on it with dirty boots.
He was just making us aware that it shows up a lot when it gets dirty, that's why he went onto it with dirty shoes as a test.
Obviously that fact would put some people off if they're getting dirty regularly on trips etc.
I throughly agree with him Luke. You should have used a ground cloth!
@@annettemalaski1967 I'd of assumed he would have if he was using it to actually stay out over night, guess we will find out when he does more tests 🤣
Luke, have you ever reviewed the Roll-a-Cot brand? Haved one for years, and I love it.
Looks like a cool cot. The two levels is definitely a plus!
OneTigris' new cot is out now, it's called OneTigris Supranubis Cot. Seems like they changed the tightening mechanism. Would you mind reviewing this new cot too?
Thanks Luke. Keep the reviews coming. Happy Easter.
03:51 I swear I heard that same crow at my house just this morning. Dude gets around.
During the process of testing might I suggest you found out if it is washable
Make it a bit bigger! 😂
I have a couple of military surplus cots, heavy duty and worth it.
i wanna see someone put a single person tent on top of a air mattress. in rainy weather with a tarp over head
Onetigris will be bringing this cot back THIS SUMMER alongside the portable table they discontinued.
Well at least the black one won't show grass stains. To get Luke to stop slamming all of his gear around for the effect is probably like talking to a wall. It's part of the program now.
Nah, getting dark colors just means you aren't SEEING the dirt and germs, lol. I always go lighter then I can see to keep it clean. Like car interior. ;) Good call on the khaki IMO!
Looks like a great cot!
What type of pillow do you recommend?
Appreciate the honest review. I'll still go with Khaki, though.
They make a cot pad. It makes it slightly more comfortable and keeps it from getting filthy. I just take the pad off and throw it in the washing machine.
That's a very solid-looking cot. I'll probably get it sooner or later.
Luke, enjoy your videos. Have you got any reviews on tent cots? I know it’s not for hiking, getting too old to hike. Looking at the tent cots and was wondering how they hold up under real conditions.
I've owned the kamp rite original cot tent for 10 years .i use it several times a year. Slept in rain ,snow, sleet 1 clip on bottom strap finally broke . The storage bag is falling apart . I did add seam sealer to tent and rain fly this past winter. I add a sleeping pad to make it more comfortable. Up til last year it's always been dry even when it rains for 8 hours. Seam sealer took care off my issues.
Camping equipment doesn't get stains, scratches, dents, or dings those are visual reminders of adventurers past.
Thanks Luke, great video, straight to the point
For me, a really good - and large enough cot - is paramount for comfortable camping. I got myself the Klymit Cedar Mesacot XL. Quite expensive, but worth it to me. This is really for car camping only. 217 cm long, 94 cm wide, 40 cm high. 181 kg max weight. Quite heavy with 8.6 kgs. Until now, I used an equally high-quality carp bed, which is even more comfortable (I still use that when camping with the family). However, as I have to take big trunks with me (cosplayer), this thing takes too much space in my car. As I do use campsites during summertime (much cheaper than a hotel), everything has to fit in my car. Hence the smaller packing size of the cot, paired with a nice air mattress.
Looks like a nice portable bed
Hmm, cannot recall any previous videos with Luke using a cot?
The footprint, that’s what concerns me about most of these….I’ve got a $1200.00 canvas baker tent (the Bill Mason design) and the sleep compartment has a floor and weight distribution is a concern so holes don’t get poked in. It’s a very thick vinyland tough but when weight is concentrated?? I may fabricate something to go with cot feet??
Having only 3 supports makes this so much better than the One Tigres. I really like the idea of having one less strut to set up. This style of cot is great for size and weight, but really do require you to crawl around on the ground huffing and puffing to set them up. So 3 looks better than 4 in this case.
Actually it is a sucky cot and it is a bad in design, bought it and sent it right back.
@@Feribrat99 I haven't found a cot that is both light and compact, and easy to set up.
I wanna it with an preinstalled inflated pillow!!
Good hair style for you - looks good.
Love my one Tigris because of 4 sets of legs. A lot more sturdier
Just an FYI, the url for the black cot still brings up the khaki cot
They sell a nifty $40 sleeve/cushion to fit on it which will masks your big durty boot streaks (or dont wear durty boots on your damn bed!) all the while making it more comfy! YAY \o/ edit: cute tidbit: a chai-nah company I bought one with had me wait2 weeks then cancelled my order (and hiked the price 40%) but reimbursed me though. No problemo. A month later, I received the cot. Thanks chai-nah.
How does it compare to the Helinox Tactical cot? Mostly pack size. Identical?
So Luke… I’m wondering if this cot could be utilized in the back of a 4Runner??
It looks good. Have you had time to test it out?
Luke, I'm pretty sure that your audience is big outside the US, so please, can you show the measurements of your reviews in IS to? Big fan of your videos, STH! 👊🏼
If you are so interested in the specs, you can easily convert or look up.
Nice to see it's weight rated for big men like myself.
The black one still stains and gets dirty. It's just less visible. In any case, you can't see it when you're asleep.
Kaki you can see bugs easier just my opinion but thanks for keeping it real
How about that review of the Naturehike 4 sided teepee tent
Naturehike tends to replicate popular products rather than innovate, and this is evident in their near-identical version of the Helinox Cot One.
Luke, Happy Easter, and I have a question or two. What are the "D" rings for and do you think cobbling longer legs to get the height up to 19 or 20 inches would stress and break the (what I assume are plastic) leg insertion points for a 220 pound man? I'm older and getting up and down from a 14 1/2" seat or bed is a little tougher for me than it may be for you.
Thanks
I have the NatureHike ArmyWild cot and the Helinox Cot One Convertible.
