- OK, sure, we can all agree Nintendo did it better in the end, but there was a time there when being a Nintendo kid was tough thanks to the genius marketing and 2-year head-start SEGA had in the 16-bit gaming space. The SEGA Genesis was a really excellent console, and put up a valiant fight against the Super NES during the darkest days of the console wars of the early 1990s. It had a CD-ROM! It had an expansion so you could play 32-bit games! But perhaps most importantly, it had a plucky blue fellow by the name of Sonic. Join Jada Griffin, Seth Macy and special guests Khalilah Alston and Jared Petty as we take a walk down memory lane.

Was Jared recording on a potato?
The SNES sound chip was way better than the Mega Drive.... It was made by Sony.
And so it should be as the SNES was released two years after the Mega Drive but whether the SNS chip was truly better is subjective. Let’s remember that just because you think it’s better doesn’t mean someone else does.

What Nintendo wasn’t there weren’t 16 bits before Sega there weren’t 32 bits ever once sega went all out if Sega was still here they would be as powerful as the PC today

Video games rule
SNES had far superior sound quality than Genesis. The chip was more advanced and produced some stunning results, and far more often. Axelay (a brilliant shooter, btw), Castlevania 4 and Street Fighter 2 were obvious early examples. In contrast, the Genesis sounded thin, if not caustic at times.
Aladdin on SNES was the better game too. The Genesis one got rave reviews because it was out first and looked stunning. The SNES equalled it in looks, if not surpassed, and was the better game.
