    I saw some footage of this nest at another channel, and I must say Ms. B is absolutely amazing. Food must be very scarce in these conditions. I hope it starts to get warm soon and that these eggs hatch into strong, healthy eagles!

      Hi Cowlover My grandson is 18 in Alabama, but used to live in SC. I'm in PA now and see all these farmers and made friends with some Amish, but then they moved to VA right after Christmas I was on the phone with grandson when I got your reply and told him what you said and he said "wow, that's cool!" Trying to talk him in to coming up here. I miss him so much and he's my only one. Be careful saying your age on here please. Some in YT are not nice, but most in here are great!!!

    I really hope Beauty's okay. I just did a quick search and read that dark discoloration of bird waste can sometimes be caused by things like: eating something that they shouldn't have eaten, internal bleeding in the upper digestive system, or liver problems. I hope it's none of these things and/or nothing serious, as she's doing so well and so many of us are cheering her on!

    Hi Lady Hawk I had no idea you were covering our Big Bear nest !! YAY!!! We’ve been watching this mother on our local news and it’s unbelievable the dedication and devotion these creatures have to their mates and offspring I LOVE that we are seeing more bald eagles in CA!! I watched the live cam earlier and I didn’t see her move for hours lol I thought she was frozen there for awhile But then I thought about all the bald eagles on the east coast that survive horrific cold temps and they’re fine Also... she’s got a nice size clutch under her for her first time Thank you for the lesson in heating See you soon!!!

    Lady Hawk this is incredible footage. If this is indeed her first year I can't believe the instinct and imprinting she's learned to be so unwavering and faithful to these eggs at her own great personal discomfort❄What a Mom!💙. Do we have any idea on that black PS? I'm curious what could cause that. I'm sure diet has a part in it but I suppose it could be something more involved at play. Ty & ttys Lady Hawk💙

    I asked Dr. Christian Sasse & David Hancock to comment on the black excrement by Mrs. BB as noted in the video. David Hancock noted:
    "The raptors slice, the evacuated stream of excrement, is made up of all the waste products that we produce combined in one stream -- the urine or pee, usually white and coming from the urinary tract, and the dark outside covering, the feces itself, largely the unprocessed matter of the gut cavity. The later is often dark, even black but when black can indicate it is 'too full' of blood, or hemoglobin cells. BUT, and the but is huge, the circumstances of stress, prolonged prevention of muting, or worse, the containment of blood from a diseased gut can result in blood collecting and coloring the feces. Was this female stressed, did she sit for a prolonged period to protect her eggs and accumulate more feces -- the dark coloring? Did she have some unusual 'last dinner' that contained an extra amount of blood that darkened the feces? Or does she have some infection and is passing a lot of blood as a result. I suspect time will tell."
    Mrs. BB seems to be fine and we will be keeping an eye out for anything unusual. I am reviewing footage of her eating over the past couple of days to see if she consumed anything out of the ordinary. Thank you Dr. Sasse and Mr. Hancock for your valuable contributions and knowledge in these raptors!!
    Please tune in to Christian Sasse's Live Friday Broadcast where he will discuss this in detail on Friday Jan. 12th at SassePhoto live stream 5pm PST 8pm EST. :)

    Oh my gosh Lady Hawk, at 11:48 pm (on my computer clock EST) I heard a wolf cry out while watching the LIVE BB eagle cam video tonight. I had just clicked over to check on mama and it shocked me, so wanted to tell you real quick. Not only do I hear wolves crying in California, but had a couple coyotes crying out near my apartments the other night at 2:14 a.m.!!! And people wonder why I don't sleep! :) Lana

    this is perfect being our eagles in south west florida dont have the snow to contend with though it does get windy and rainy im waiting for these to fly the coop now i can start the process all over they growso fast if you miss a couple weeksits hard to tell the two apart the natural selection part can be worrisome when they are small watching one appearing to get the majority of the food it worked they both are no longer babies

      Hi SassePhoto - what LIVE stream do you do? I'm just finding LIVE streams in last month. I don't recognize your name, but maybe I'm just missing it because of watching the eagles so closely. Today is the first morning and afternoon I was not able to watch. I had a brief interruption last Friday, but Lady Hawk caught everyone up on what happened in Florida. I just started watching this the day after she laid her first egg, I freaked out seeing her entirely covered in snow last night and early this morning I could not get it to open, it was about 4 a.m. eastern time. Please do keep us informed, as I'm sure LadyHawk will about the dark excrement. Lana in central PA

    About the black PS... I don’t know about eagles or any bird in this respect.. but black stool in mammals usually means the presence of blood. Is her mate around? If she spent all day and night on the nest ... worries me a lot.

    Lady Hawk, are you there??? I hope so, have been going back and forth between BB and S/W most of today. BB just left nest about 14 minutes ago and hasnt returned. Temp is 57 according to Google. Will the eggs be ok. I only saw dad/mom come once today. Is there a concern? I didnt see any food brought to the other who was nesting. Why is that? At one point the one that did return looked confused. Then I had to do something and when I came back one was on nest but couldnt tell which. Help please! Thanks!!

    • @ladyhawk
      @ladyhawk  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Lana - I was not watching BB today but I believe the eggs will be fine at 57 degrees. Remember this is a young pair of eagles - their first nesting experience. Most eagles don't bring food back regularly while incubating eggs - they will instinctively do this when the chicks hatch.

    • @lbluebird486
      @lbluebird486 6 лет назад +1

      Thank you for taking the time to reply. I so appreciate it. I was really worried. The eagle came back after 18 min if I remembering correctly. I may have forgotten you telling me about not bringing food while nesting. Know wonder it was gone that long, it may have been looking for a quick bite. Are you just starting your shift? It's late. I was finally dozing off. I have sleep apnea, so I fight sleeping at night for fear of not waking up. I sleep more early a.m. or sometimes take a long nap if I've gone without a lot of sleep. Nite for now. No need to reply. Thanks again!!

    I just read this on black mute. "Variations in fecal color can be completely normal and will vary depending on the food eaten. Some foods are richer in blood, and therefore hemoglobin. Because of this, the mute will be black - similar to if the bird herself had bleeding in her upper gastrointestinal tract." Google, "The Moder Apprentice-Raptor Mutes

      Older Eagles ( N=13,4 photographed in successive plumage's)-Twelve birds were in definitive plumage ; however one eagle photographed at 7 1/2 and 8 1/2 years of age had Extensive gray flecking around the eyes , auriculars and forehead . In 1984 , 61/2 year eagle was photographed with similar markings ,but had molted into pure white plumage when photographed in 1985 at 71/2 years of age . Published by the Wilson Ornithological Society .
      The Five year thing I take as rule of thumb , I know from personal experience ,the local female I follow still had black in her tail the second nesting season . She may be five but I very highly doubt it .

      True about the gray flecking and other markings on older eagles. The IWS Institute of Wildlife Studies who hosts this wonderful cam and very respected biologist Dr. Peter Sharpe has observed this nest since it went live in 2015. He has stated both the male and female are young first time parents and that the female is now turning 5 years old. I trust his many years of experience.
