Glad you made it Hawaii!✌ thats awesome. Can you make a video and explain how you deal with people that try to be judgmental about your lifestyle? College did not work out for me and now I just want to travel. Thank you
Haha, people would be surprised to know that when the sun sets on the Big Island, it’s time to close everything up and go home! We would struggle to get down from Mauna Kea in time for beer. Lol. You are a smart savvy woman, always listen to your instincts when it comes hitch-hiking and other such things.
It's nice to see how well you are doing considering the adjustment. You are from MN too right? I felt that way fro a long time when I moved to New Zealand. You are a very strong woman with a fantastic and optimistic attitude. It really inspires me. Just be thankful you aren't in the deep freeze right now. I am home taking care of my mom and I am not used to this cold!! Best wishes and look forward to hearing more as you get comfortable=)
People shop at Target for food. And the weekend Public Market in Kona is great! And cheap! I would get a bicycle and helmet if you can? Some nice small beach spots in Kona. I lived in Hawi up north for 5 months with another painter. Hilo is less busy but not much there. Old town. Waterfront. Hawi is tiny but very green! I get the feeling of being island bound. But statistically, people drive within ten to thirty miles of home on the mainland and that is pretty much it. You might want to see Honolulu at some point. Or one of the other islands if finances permit. Be careful hitching. There is a cool bookstore in Kona called Kona Stories or something? They have a FB page, I think. As to being trappec feelings? This is a temp adventure! Just enjoy it while it lasts!
Girl, if you happened to get the first editions of those books they can go for some good money on ebay! Read them and sell them on, maybe they can fund some of your adventures! :) I am loving this new adventure of yours because i wanted to do this too, before kids, just was never brave enough! Much love, stay safe :)
I reallly enjoyed your videos. Thanks so much for making these vlogs. I will be moving to the big island with a good amount of savings in April. I was wondering how long you’re going to be on the big island for?
You are so brave! I've never been to Hawaii. I'm very excited to see your new adventures! ☺ P.S. it was 60 degrees here in N.Y. yesterday and today we are having a winter storm. Do you miss the snow and cold yet?
New subscriber here. Love how positive you are. I wish I had the courage to explore alone like you. If you ever come to Portland again, you're always welcome at my home!(:
Hayley Bingbong thank you! I love portland, I hope you’ll check out my vids from when I was there!! I hope to return soon, welcome to the huckleberry fam! 🤗
hitchhiking! was it scary? or is it like an uber ride but free ? do you put your thumb out? do the people who pick you up engage in conversation?mainly men, women or families who stop to pick up hitch hikers?seems so bizzare and exciting at the same time. .and scary lookimg forward to the next video!
It's a big part of the culture there so its not very strange there. Alot of time trucks will stop and you just say thank you and ask them if they can take you to wherever you need to go. Its easier for trucks cause you can just hop in the back. Sometimes they will take you all the way there if its one their way or as much as they can.
Holli!! Thanks for replying :-) Glad to hear about no politics or drama. I'm in Portland, Oregon, and all it IS, is politics and Drama. Being vulnerable isn't fun anymore. Thinking of jumping on a plane, and heading west. I've watched some of your videos, and I have enjoyed them. I just noticed a video about you 'going home after 6 mos.' Thinking about watching it, but I'm afraid you're going to be crying during it... I don't like to see Holli, a strong independent woman, crying on her voyages. I'll watch it, so you can make your .00034 cents ;-) again, thanks for responding!!! ~jamie P.S. okay...FINE...I'll ask. How do you believe a 'trans' person would get along there? I'm 'passive trans', not really in your face trans. I would think it would be cool, but I see a LOT of young testosterone there, and that makes me nervous :p I'm more 'gender neutral' trans, than pro-active, trans. I guess I'm not looking for expert advice, just looking to find the 'mood' of indifference. Younger people can get a little uncomfortable, with people that have gender, procreation issues. I was up in Breckenridge, CO, and lots of the young guys, avoided me. I don't know why. I don't bite. I dunno, sometimes those getaway places, will have young people go there to party and have sex....yadda, yadda. That's just from my experience, from traveling. Seattle is a lil better, but Portland has become a little 'hardened' ...sorry about the rant. I'm coming to Ha-VI-EEE!!!! ha...!
jamie B there are actually lots of female to male trans here. I think there is a small community or something, just something I’ve noticed. Make is to female trans I think I’ve seen 1... but Hawaii in general is a place people go to for solitude, privacy and acceptance. Hawaii is a liberal state in general, there is also a heavy Christian population too so I don’t know if the Christians out here tend to lean progressive or conservative... just rattling off things I’ve noticed. Every island is incredibly different so there are probably some islands that are more progressive
You're so awesome...so kind. I've been traveling since about '98. I even joined the U.S. Navy in '01, because of 9/11. I didn't know anyone whom died, BUT, i did it, for all the voices that were stolen on that day. I just wanted them to be heard...one last time. I was up in Alaska, salmon fishing in Alaska, filling a 'bucket list', when that happened. Went to Seattle, signed up, and rest is history. I had a broken childhood, neglect...so, I don't like to look back, I like to keep moving forward. I've been all over the World, most of it, in military Uniform, on a boat :p ...but, yeah....still considered traveling :p I even bought a box of Cuban cigars, and took them upon a U.S. Warship...during a war! ha...! *note: I'll deny that, off this channel* probably a felony...and then some. Avocados have essential fats, which 'lubricate' your body, they're great for skin, joints, organs...so good for you. I like watching your videos, because you go off the beaten path, from the general WWOOF'r. Someone who has a bed and breakfast...or something. I saw this one video, of working on a Kona coffee farm. It looked like hard work, and it was so isolated. I'd like to find a 'cash gig' w/housing. sorry...rambling. I am not sure if I'm ready to give my 30 day notice, at my apt in Portland, OR and fly out there. I can purge all my stuff in this apt quite quickly. Being trans, I tend to 'purge' quite often. uuggghhh...sorry rambling again. Let me just finish by saying, you're awesome, kind, and I'm SOOOOO happy, you're still smiling!!! you take care, Angel :-) I hope our paths cross, at some time. Like you say, so many islands are incredibly different. I'm not trans for the sexual aspect, but the identity aspect. Basically I try to tell people that I'm not involved in the dating game, just trying to stay afloat, in this ocean of life, with all it's crashing waves, calm seas, and predators, down in the deep unknown. I'll still comment on your videos, but I'll leave this comment section alone. thanks again, *hugs* :-) ~jamie P.S. ...I was born 'male' and beach life is my biggest concern...i won't lie. I'm not that strong to do that!!! I HOPE ANYONE that is TRANS, is ABLE to NURTURE THAT ABILITY...my heart goes out to you!!
Sounds like your in a beautiful place to live and go on new adventures. Sorry to hear your home sick. But Why don’t you you like the town you’re living in?
lorpatty the town I’m in is great! Everyone is so friendly and there are plenty of options as far as cafes restaurants yoga etc, it’s just isolated and that’s very against my comfort zone.
Holli + Huckleberry ohh I get it it does sucks not having a car. I have gone years without a car before. I hope it gets better. Your brave to hitchhike. I guess if it’s common their it isn’t to bad. Still be safe.
Seems kind of strange, you were all through the rural west and then you go to Hawaii and feel isolated? Me no comprendo especially with all the road traffic and stores. That is my dream, if I was in Minnesota I would be north of Mille Lacs or at least Princeton.
Be super careful, maybe buy a mountain bike if you can instead of hitchhiking. I've seen young people using skateboards, too, or roller blading? Happy trails.
i was in kona a year and a half ago.i still cant believe how friendly and nice everyone were.im considering moving o the big island.have fun.

Glad you made it Hawaii!✌ thats awesome. Can you make a video and explain how you deal with people that try to be judgmental about your lifestyle? College did not work out for me and now I just want to travel.
Thank you
Yes! Thank you for sharing!
So wonderful to see Kona, my old stomping ground, and where I met my love. Hope you settle in and enjoy it's beauty...

I think the highlight of this video was the visuals she was able to capture at the end when she got dropped off at Kona
I'm glad to see that you arrived safe and sound!
Hi Hawaii shore looks wonderful this time of the year. Have a good time

It's good to see you settling in. Still doing great editing. I notice the scene change with the music. Keep up the great work.

Hawaii's cool and all, but Harry Potter is obviously the highlight of this adventure
OMG! I love how Spontaneous and authentic you're in your videos :D Keep it up! You're spreading positive vibes ;)
Nice video 👌 thanks for information!
Just one question: why do you wash a banana? 🙆
i was wondering that too
Wow! The sun sets around 6pm? Do you ever have time to go to the beach etc. after work on weekdays, or only on weekends? That's a bummer.
This was in the winter, and I didn’t have much time off apart from 2 days!

I am terrified of lizards. I couldnt. Is that typical??

Not scary in Hawaii, but you can't smoke, stink and be rude either.
It's a big part of the culture there so its not very strange there. Alot of time trucks will stop and you just say thank you and ask them if they can take you to wherever you need to go. Jessica Wilson lol you need to stop saying first comment... it’s not an accomplishment on my videos 😂
Holli + Huckleberry whatever. To me it is 😂😂 but fine.
Hitchhiking? As a mom, I would be horrified if my daughter did that! Please be careful. Don’t give your parents a heart attack!
hi holli :-)
quick question...is it political there?
