  • Maritime law enforcement agencies are playing an increasingly central geopolitical role in the Asia-Pacific. Presence operations to underline maritime claims and enforce domestic and international laws against a variety of maritime security challenges have brought these agencies into regular and frequent contact with one another. Yet confidence-building mechanisms among them are less developed than among their military counterparts. This special session will explore how maritime law enforcement agencies can better manage regular encounters at sea to reduce the risks of escalation.
