Gina Rinehart, Hancock Prospecting and the Australian Women's Netball Team

- Gina Rinehart has sponsored the Australian Women's Olympic Swimming Team and the Australian Women's Netball Team, but an indigenous player on the team has raised an objection to the Hancock Prospecting logo (Gina Rinehart's mining company) being on the team uniform. Other players have supported her in this opposition.

it’s great that Gina has pulled the pin on those netballers.. why mining gets bashed from pillar to post can only be explained by miseducation.. all products that enhance lives on this planet are the results of what we as humans mine … hence my word condensation “mining underpins humanity”
Big thumbs up to Gina, Australian Netball can get by on chook raffles to fund themselves. The issue here is that her father Lang Hankock said some inappropriate things about Aboriginal people back in the 80's which one of their players took offence at. He said that they should be sterilised. Lang has been dead for 30 years so it makes no sense as to why they are making an issue out of this. Gina didn't make those comments and her mother was Aboriginal. So Aussie Netball are trying to crucify her as guilt by association. Good on Gina for tearing up the sponsorship deal. If any other potential sponsor has any sense they won't come to their rescue either, otherwise Australian Netball will probably find some other dirt to dig up about them in order to ruin their reputation.
The only loser here is netball and in particular aboriginal netballers, alls this sort of thing does is create more division

Good on you Gina,..... "get woke, go broke". They'll have to sell a lot of scones to be able to continue. It would have been simpler for Netball Australia to "lose" the team of whiners and replace them and keep the funding, but that would take courage instead they are "coerced" by the team menbers, and place the sport in jeopardy. Well done "woke", you reap what you sow.

Not a fan Gina but she had no choice. BTW, there should be a tax on mining profits and that money should all go into public health and education. And I am not a raging lefty. Just someone who thinks the country can do better.

So let’s review. A nearly bankrupt female competition rejects a $15 m sponsorship (donation) from Australia’s richest woman (and person) because of what some dead old guy said nearly half a century ago.

I feel that the girl and Netball association have been very naive and ill advised. Hancock is a serious large corporation putting up $15 million of their own cash to help netball from the grassroots up. Hancock also do also a large amount of philanthropic work in the community, including the indigenous community where they provide opportunities and funding. Real life examples of giving. Then you have a player wanting to dredge up comments from 40 years from the original founder and major owner of the company. Then Hancock has to go through all the negative publicity associated with some views of an 80 year old guy from 40 years ago. What company in the world would want to do that. For some point scoring. This is serious sponsorship money and is largely philanthropic in nature, as Hancock won't be increasing sales.
I don't really blame kid, because certainly she's naive and been ill advised. But netball association should really know better. Who is going to develop netball players in indigenous areas now... who will provide the funding and opportunities for young girls.

If these sports 'stars' are so good, why do they need sponsors? If you can't afford to participate, don't expect private or public money so you can indulge yourself. Try working in a proper job that improves society and the economy instead of being a parasite on others.

Stand firm Gina, to me you're much more admired after this! Somewhere we will have to stop this kind behaviour, it takes a real aussie and a real hard working billionaire who is truly caring for its people, who has high intelligence to stand up. Just like my boy coming home from primary school asking me: why we were told how bad we were treating the indigenous people, it's not us doing that right? Sadly too many virtual signalling in our schools, teaching our kids to feel bad generation by generation to pay the debts only because our ancestors (by the way, we're migrants) did something bad. Those spoiled players and even the netball Australia are into virtual signalling, just talk no action. Gina does a lot for indigenous people quietly. Well done, Gina! For god's sake, leave the politics out of our sports!

Lang Hancock spoke of 'half caste' Aboriginals as some sort of subhuman concern that could be disposed of like you dispose of a colony of cats. That's the Hancock in Hancock Prospecting. He was more things than an old man with a genocide fantasy and he was enough of a hypocrite that he married his Filipino housekeeper. No way should indigenous players in netball have to promote his family name. That name is even too hot for Gina Rinehart who dropped it right upon getting married and doesn't go back to it even after her divorce.
At least iron ore isn't radioactive and doesn't pollute the inner ecosystem like some of the alcohol, tobacco and gambling sponsors of sporting events seen in my time. And I give Gina credit for supporting swimmers and netball thus far.

All this racial abuse happening in Australia and former anglo saxon english speaking former colonies of Great Britain I have been told about by family that emigrated to Canada as well as to Australia. It comes to this that to average Canadians and Australians Aboriginals and First Nation people are a pain in the ass and should be disposed of. Where ever as a Dutchman I start a conversation with a Brit, I was and will be told that the Netherlands left their colonies with nothing, as where the English left their colonies in a Paradise state. So untrue! India faced massacres between Hindus and Muslims when the english left caused by english colonial rule. In former dutch colonies threre are no original people living as minorities as second class citizens. The fact is that public relations and propaganda of the english have always even outclassed the likes of Joseph Goebbles of the Third Reich. I support Donnell Wallam in her fight against Australian racism and hypocrasy.
