- This plow plane came to me from UK and was find at flea market. Quite rare find because of single screw fence regulation. Both arms had a crack so i decided to change them. If your'e interested how i made them, watch till the end. Thank you for your time.
Cheers!
If you have any questions just leave a comment.
BTW. I don't take orders and usually i don't sell my planes.

Absolutely breathtaking!
I like the way you made it obvious what was new, and left the original with much of its patina. By not trying to disguise the repairs you have somehow made the original look more genuine. 👌
We are witnessing in this video the work of a true master craftsman. It is such a pleasure to watch Stavros use hand tools with such astounding precision and artistry. For this artist, the chisel is his paintbrush, and the wood is his canvas.
Woodworking is a great medium. You can feed your family with it and make your own shelter.
Thanks Russ!
Beautiful as usual. I truly hope that people understand how much time is actually spent on these projects. You only show a fraction of the time spent. Not to mention the amount of time spent mastering these skills. From one craftsman to another, Bravo.
Keep up the great work.
Greetings from the high plains of Texas.
Only my wife knows how many hours i spent in my workshop :) Cheers Ryan!
@@StavrosGakos I am jealous. Mine hates my shop.
We are so blessed to watch you work. Often we see you use the bench to control the wood so that each stroke of the tool is maximized. Your videos are so well put together, with wonderful content. Your hard work editing and setting up what we see is so inspiring. Thank you for sharing with us.
Thank you Karol :)
It lives again! Great work! I like that you buy or obtain hand planes to use and not just to collect. I am that way as well. I find it so satisfying to restore discarded tools. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Doug, every plane should work not catch the dust 😉
I found one at a flea market similar to this. It has sliding wedges for fence adjustment. The depth stop had the same bent brass inlayed nut. Because of you and the detail you give in each of your videos, I was inspired to restore it last year. It has become one of my favorite planes. Thank you Stavros for inspiring me.
Glad to read it :) Cheers!
Beautiful work and so happy to see an “Old Veteran” back in harness!
I subscribed to this channel about a week ago, and am truly fascinated by the work he does on classic practical tools
I'm so glad you are not here in Florida, I couldn't possibly compete with your work.....yet!!! All kidding aside, I use your videos as tutorials and you have inspired me to reach higher levels with my own work.
Nice restoration
What a lovely plow! Gives me a few ideas for when I eventually make a second one
Amazing tool sir it just makes you wounder👏👏how some one can come up with amazing ida wow mazing uk
You have turned a old wore out plow plane into a thing of beauty and made it functional again, bravo.
Thank you Berl :)
Nice demonstration, thanks
Najprzyjemniej ogląda się, jak narzędzie dostaje drugie życie! Piękna robota!
Dzięki, pozdrowienia :)
Another beautiful restoration. Congratulation.
Planes are beatiful tools, especielly in the hands of a craftsman!
That is a wonderful old (new) plane! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks Dale!
You really know how to sharpen your tools :-), grate end grain cuts. All over, nice project.
Thanks Razvan 👍
Your work inspires me- absolutely beautiful restoration
I'm glad for it Mark, thank you :)
Yeees, Gakos! Oh I love planes as much as I love my life! This plough plane came out stunning. Congrats Gakos!
Sensacional uma bela plainadeira de canal pra encaixes 🇧🇷🙏
That snap of a finger is really magical.. still enjoying your works and craftsmanship..
Danke ihnen
Wieder ein sehr interessantes Video. Einfach fantastisch mit welcher Präzision sie so ein altes Stück wieder zu neuem Glanz verhelfen
I should jolly well think so! Now don't you DARE let it get into that state again! 😄
Beautiful restoration of a beautiful tool by a master craftsman.
Thank you Ron!
Awesome, nice to have an old tool back in action.
Fantastic as always Stavros, a joy to watch. Thanks. Regards Jim UK.
Hey Jim, thank you :) Cheers!
Amazing restoration!!!
Very nice job.
A tool like that would probably have been constructed by an artisan as he completed his apprenticeship, hence the decorative molding.
I love old handmade tools.
I've collected several old planes, found in my barns and been given a couple by neighbours. Some complete, some not.
All very well worn.
What a beautiful old guy we've got here
Renowacja z tunningiem. Zacnie! 👍
Now that's one groovy plane 1903
Wonderful restoration ! Well done! Thank you.
Thank you!
Amazing work, man! It turned out fantastic! 😃
It would be fantastic if every old tool could have a second chance like this!
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thank a lot :) Cheers!
7:49 - Now we're talkin' !
Outstanding work Stavros!
Thanks Doug!
Bravo Stavros! Respect!
Thank you Dorian!
Outstanding! Beautiful job Stavros! 😀
Thanks John!
Phenomenal job as always. You are an inspiration.
Thank you Chuck :)
Such a pleasure to watch you work
Thanks Michael!
Well done! It is a pity that so many fine tools get thrown away when there are so many folks who would lovingly restore them.
Awesome tool Stavros :) and as usual, brilliant work too :)
Thank you :)
Very cool old tool 👍 very impressive restoration. I thought you may have stained those new pieces to match the old.
Amazing finished project.

Thank you and welcome :)
Beautiful work and excellent video as ever Stavros!
Thanks Matt!
Maybe the guides of the fence could be restored. Otherwise, outstanding job.
beautiful
Thank you :) Cheers!
Have you made a blade sharpening video? If so I need to go back and watch it again.
Hey, i'm gonna make it soon 👍
Excellent work, as always, thanks for sharing 🙏🏽
Nice save I bet it works better now then when new.
Thanks Troy!
Always nice to watch you my friend. Good work. 👏👏👏👏
Thank you :)
Great work as always! I just recently restored a wedge arm plough plane, but i had no luck with the screws! They all broke off in the end I got most of the screws out the rest of the hole I had to put thicker screws.
That's pity, i think that bigger screws was good choise in that situation 👍Cheers!
Very good sir ji 🙏🏻 good information 👍 Thanks brother 🙏🏻
always just amazing. thanks for the videos!
You're welcome Josh :)
I to się nazywa renowacja... Pięknie! ;)

Fantastic 😘👌🏾💙
Hi Stavros, the precise work and craftsmanship is really breathtaking. Thanks for the hours of hard work and documentation that let us witness these skills.
I‘m a passionate woodworker, but this is just pure mastership.
Thank you Adrian :)
It is awesome!
Bravo.
Wow I would not have guessed those screws to be brass
Edit: also I will always be jealous of your ability to easily get quartersawn wood lol
Brass screws are my addition, if i can get the wood i'm always choose quartersawn 😉
Vraiment cool
Bellissimo!!!
Excelente !!!👍
Just before i see this video, i watched bullnose plane build video and thought to myself, he never uses that one then I see it here. What a coincidence 😂
Lol i heve used this plane mamy times :)
Perfect
Muy bueno aún los utilizo en ocaciones especiales son geniales
Tak dla pewności, 4:30 czyściłeś tutaj strug watą stalową 0000 i olejem lnianym?
Bingo ;)
Another winner!😂
Hi! What are you rubbing on the wood to clean it up? Is that just dirt being removed?
Hey, it was 0000 steel wool and boiled linseed oil to remove most of the dirt.
Well done. What did you use to clean the body of the plane? Also, did you use different metal cleaners for each type of hardware or something like evaporust for all of them? Thanks
Thanks! It was boiler linseed oil. For the metal parts i've used my sandblaster
i couldn't see what product you used to clean the body with steelwool. is it some kind of spirit ? or oil ?
Boiled linseed oil 👍
@@StavrosGakos Thank you, it seams to work so great
W czym maczasz wełnę?
Pokost lniany 👍
@@StavrosGakos dziękuję nie wiedziałem o takim zastosowaniu
If I wanted to search eBay for this kind of plane what would I call it?
Hey Matthew, it's plow plane
What is the liquid your using with the wire wool for cleaning the wood?
Oil
Mineral Spirits are often used. Removes the oils and grime, but generally leaves behind any applied finish, and some of the patina. Is a great compromise between cleaning and stripping completely.
Hey it was boiled linseed oil 👍
@@StavrosGakos I've always thought BLO as a finish, must try it for cleaning. Thanks
@@grsymes you're welcome, blo is also very good base before shellac 👍
In a mere 100 years or so the new pieces you made will have darkened to match the body and fence and then it will be done!
How many planes do you have?
I didn't count them, maybe 50
What is the chemical you used with the steel wool?
Boiled linseed oil
Very nice work.
Why does it need the arm wedges if the screw moves the fence in and out?
To lock the position.
Hey John, as Mostruggles wrote, to lock the position for repeatable work 👍
👏👏

😃💯👍
You Mean “glassikal”?
What do you mean?
Beautiful piece, I have seen one in a monastery at Meteora. They had many old carpentry tools on display. The one I saw had the threaded rod made out of wood. Beautiful tool!
Thank you :)
Bardzo dobrze, ale mogłoby być lepiej!... 👍
Гарна робота!
Dzięki :)
If you catch yourself blowing at the screen to remove sawdust and shavings, you’re getting there. Maybe in the next life you can be as good as the master.
If u have skill , tools , and knowledge u can do awsom stuf , but no wories if you are like me and got none of this u can allways wach that kind of movie ;D
There's a good chance that the original user of that plow plane was a window and door maker.
stavros - Flat head brass screws are still available the same place you got your back saw -
You cut those blind dove tails like a real pro!
There was no need to replace thise plane parts. Easily fixable.
Beautiful job. Darlington, South Carolina
Faster and better than a router, yet we think we are superior.
The real star of the show was the tiny hammer. Tappy tappy
I love this fix, great job!
Bravoooo!!!
😉
She sure looks good with her new shoes on.
