台町の獅子舞 令和6年7月14日 南沢 Lion dance of Daimachi, on Nakasen-do, Honjyo city, 14th Jul. 2024.

台町の獅子舞は埼玉県本庄市の本庄祇園まつりにて演じられる362年続く伝統的な舞です。同市の八坂神社にて疫病退散を祈願して奉納舞を行ったことがお祭りの起源と言われています。また、この獅子舞を演じると霊験あらたかに雨が降ったことから「雨乞い獅子」としても知られています。
The lion dance of Daimachi is a traditional dance that has been performed for 362 years for the Honjo Gion Festival (Honjo City, Saitama pref., Japan) It is said that the origin of the festival was praying for the elimination of epidemics. This lion dance is also known as the "The lion dance of praying for rain" because it is said to bring rain when it is performed.
