I'm from England but have always been a fan of German football from a young age in the early 70's, and the more time goes by the more I think West Germany in 1970 were just as good as this side of '72. Maier in goal, the great Schnellinger still there, a young Berti Vogts, Beckenbauer, Seeler and Overath in midfield and of course Gerd Muller up front with two genuine wingers. They played attacking football all the way like Poland in 1974 and scored 17 goals in 6 games.

Many players met, many from Munich, and, quite by chance, formed the best German team of the next 40 years. What players, what a century of generation.
