Pile 2: he told me he didn't want a relationship because he wasn't sure what his future would look like and didn't want to bound himself to anything. After a few times of hanging out he then tells me that he had met someone new and that they almost immediately started dating each other. I felt so hurt and betrayed, and for the longest time it made me feel like there was something deeply wrong with me. And till this day it's hard to trust anyone new who comes into my life. I had strong feelings for him but he didn't feel the same. That ruined me. So if he decided to reach out again I really don't plan on responding. After two years from this happening I feel happier now and don't need him to come back and ruin that for me again.

If someone says that he does not a relationship, probabely they do not want a relationship with you.
Sometimes, people do weird things like really deeply feel for you, but run to another person instead bc they can’t handle the connection between you two. They try to forget you by “moving on” to the next person, only to find out they deeply want you more but now it’s too late.

I feel conflicted about telling them how I feel because part of me knows that yes, they don't think they are "worthy" of me, but when I've tried to convey how I feel about them before they always shut me down and push me away. I'm afraid now after we've had time to reflect and be apart that if I come back saying the same things, telling them how I feel, that maybe they still wouldn't be ready. They need to work on themselves first and I don't want to rush that. I'm not sure what the right balance is between being open and honest and also giving them the space and time they need.
