I was thinking about building a dock out of scafolding. Searched quite a bit and finally found your video as concept proof. I think scaffold engineering and standards are very high so it should be strong enough for docks. I see you have joined pillars horozonally. Did you also connect any pillars along its length (below the deck) to make it stable? What is the length between two pillars?
I didn't make any connections between pillars along it's length. I was thinking of making some, but i thought the winter could be so tough here in Finland (possibly - 40 degrees celsius) I just left it as it is. So far so good. 😅 My only consern really is how the ice moves when the spring comes.
And the length between two pillars is around two meters. The wooden dock itself is made using three 2*5" girders all the way through and the surface is made of 28mm*96mm's
Thanks for getting back to me. I see, why I also shouldn't connect pillars along its length. We also get freezing winter in Mongolia too. So, by girder do you mean you made a steel frame for strength? In other words, is your dock all wood or wood and steel combination?
@@otgonbayarochirbat3900sorry, girder might be wrong word for 2" by 5" wooden beam. There's three of them on the top of horizontal tubes, which are connected to vertical tubes, which are some of them slowly sinking in to the mud. Board pieces are screwed in to three wooden beams I mentioned earlier. The whole wooden structure is just sitting loose on the frame made outof scaffolding tubes, but anyway I secured it with a rope, so flood will not steal it😅
