Arcane has very quickly become my favourite show of all time, or at LEAST very high up on the list (we'll see once TDP makes its long-awaited comeback lmfao). I've always been unfortunately picky with my media and even then have mostly been a low- to mid-key fan of things the last few years (I pretty much only make videos of things that I love), but from the VERY FIRST SHOT OF THE TRAILER this show stole my heart completely and entirely. I watched it around Christmas (and was VERY shocked I'd never heard of it before because it is directly up my alley) and not a single day has gone by since where I haven't extensively and emotionally thought about it. The characters? My darlings. The writing? Phenomenal and compelling. The world-building? Immersive as fuck. The ANIMATION??? STUNNING, LEGENDARY, EVERYTHING I HAVE /EVER/ WANTED BOTH FROM A VISUAL AND AN EDITING PERSPECTIVE, HOLY SHIT
Also if you couldn't tell from my icon, Vi is my favourite.
So I needed to make a video, if not multiple (I have.......so many ideas) since this show pretty much dug my editing inspiration out of the depths of hell and brought it back. (How long will it stay?? Who knows. Will I now finish my insane backlog of videos?? Unclear. Will I end up only editing with Arcane for the rest of my life?? Non-zero chance.)
I chose this song to start because 1) it's been one of my favourites since I was a kid, and 2) one of the first videos I ever uploaded to this channel was with this song (this one: • ＰＯＳＴ ＢＬＵＥ ), and I wanted to do it some more justice. It was also a good base for experimenting with Arcane's visuals/plot points and action sequences without being an overwhelming amount of either. Plus I love re-using songs from old videos and seeing how I've improved over the years!
This ended up taking me...about three months? I started the first week of January, then worked on it on-and-off until about two weeks ago and then I just powered through the last half of the editing. The masking in the intro sequence alone took me four days, lol. I watched so many video essays and documentaries while doing it 🤣
Anyway, enough of my incoherent rambling. I love Arcane and all of you should watch it. If you have watched it then PLEASE leave your thoughts in the comments because I am looking for any reason to talk about it. Tell me who your faves are and roast me if I didn't do them justice in this video. (I think this is the only video I've ever made where I've had MORE footage than I knew what to do with instead of running out and scrambling near the end...iconic)

I think Powder is my favorite. The relationship between her and Silco is really interesting and I would love to see a video focused on them.
Thank you!! And ugh Powder/Jinx and Silco's relationship was so captivating. I went in completely blind and I ended up loving the father/daughter dynamic and how it humanized both of their characters - I find a lot of shows tend to lack that depth with their antagonists so it was such a breath of fresh air.
The insane amount of attention to detail you put into this video is totally outstanding! Keep making these wonderful pieces of art!

@@MockingJamie I have adhd, I was sooooo distracted by the artwork/animation, I couldn’t focus on the plot 😂. I agree every shot is a masterpiece.. t inspired me to do my animation tv series in that paint kind of style, but instead of cgi models it’s all 2D…that’s going to take a lifetime 😂. Jinx backstory I like cried, I love how siblings fall apart and it’s not happy ever after. Some wounds cut too deep to heal. Sorry bit of animation nerd here, hehe.

oh yeah, just wanted to add that this makes me really sensitive to the liquid quality of light--e.g. especially in the juxtaposition of 1:44 with the light entering the council chambers at 1:47--which is a wonderful way to watch arcane because of how beautifully it uses light (as you bring out)!
Haha that's exactly what I was aiming for!! I always want the audio in my videos to sort of blend into the song instead of sticking out too much cause I feel like it's very immersive that way. And you're right, Arcane is super visual and auditory in its storytelling, which makes for an excellent editing experience since I mainly focus on both in my videos LOL.
