Especially when it came to Bilbo spairing Smeagol and Gandalf (who is technically an Angel btw) commenting on it despite not knowing all the details. Even as we are doing these things in the physical world , what is in and is expressed by our hearts will determine the fate of so many.
Gandalf not not simply an Angel. Tolkien's characters aren't usually so simple allegories. Just one example, he's also one of the prominent Christ figures especially by his death and resurrection as Gandalf the White and the conversion of Theoden. There are no complete angels in LOTR, no complete Christs, no complete Marys etc. but it's very well mixed (also with non-Catholic influences). Btw, I don't have much to back it up and it's not probably even Tolkien's intention, but I see some similarities to Mechizedek in Anne Catherine Emmerich's visions. I love the way he talks about marriage here, but I strongly disagree with the idea that society is just going to collapse. Conservatives in literally every time period have sworn that society was ending, and yet here we are
I don't think that they were necessarily wrong to say that society was ending but it isn't necessarily as drastic as was originally claimed. Rather than collapsing, society has been slowly erroding or disintegrating like how iron is eaten away at by rust if not properly protected from the world.
Generally speaking, they were correct. It is just the arc of collapse tends to progress more slowly than they expected. And, of course, people don't just stop when things collapse; they rebuild.
I have to disagree with him; things will get bad, but the USA will not fall, nor sunder at all; we had that, and we completely prevented any further sunderings.

Doomers bro... Doomers. Maybe check out some data-based descriptions of "society." Try some Steven Pinker. Or just operate based on your feelings of dismay.
@@aclark903, as it's sometimes said, "Numbers don't lie." I would recommend his Ted Talk: "Is the world getting better or worse? A look at the numbers." Pinker is purely secular when it comes to analyzing the data.
I don't think the argument is that society as such is going to collapse in a definitive way. What you are seeing in the argument is an observation that Western Civilization in particular appears to have aquired characteristics also seen in previous civilizations which have collapsed. This is taking things from a social, economic, and ecological point of view. What is harder to guess at is the timing. Things have tended to take much longer to happen than doomsayers expect. Regardless, when our society collapses, there will be others to take its place. At least, that is what has always happened before.
Do you think more souls or less are going to heaven in this day and age, compared to other times in history? This age is filled with wondrous technology and society for the materialist, but it is not something that fulfills the hunger and thirst that we have for God. I am convinced that, in this day and age, more souls are being lost to eternal damnation than before and that is the condition on which one ought to judge living standards.

I love the way he talks about marriage here, but I strongly disagree with the idea that society is just going to collapse.
Conservatives in literally every time period have sworn that society was ending, and yet here we are
Praise be to God. Has it not been the grace of God through conservitism, the world will surely ended.
I don't think that they were necessarily wrong to say that society was ending but it isn't necessarily as drastic as was originally claimed. Rather than collapsing, society has been slowly erroding or disintegrating like how iron is eaten away at by rust if not properly protected from the world.
Well there sure are signs of End Times... and also the messages of St. Faustina and Fatima.
Generally speaking, they were correct. It is just the arc of collapse tends to progress more slowly than they expected. And, of course, people don't just stop when things collapse; they rebuild.
Society has been through quite a few upheavals and in those periods, unimaginable suffering was experienced and human life was lost.
Sorry, I would prefer to be a Dwarf instead of a Hobbit.
Bad? I think you mean worse because its already bad.
I have to disagree with him; things will get bad, but the USA will not fall, nor sunder at all; we had that, and we completely prevented any further sunderings.
Let our faith be in God, not nation
@@maurac44 Actually, we must be extremely Nationalistic, not loyal to any god at all, but loyal to our countries, and out for our own neighbors' best interests.
@@chissstardestroyer no thanks. Nations come and go, but God is eternal
@@maurac44 Nations come and go, yes, but all kings are completely unreliable; and that absolutely includes God in the category of "unreliable" *at best*.
@@chissstardestroyer It's impious degenerates like you who are completely unreliable.
In England, kid means baby goat. Just saying. We have children, not farmyard animals.
Such silly pendantry. I've lived in England all my (very long),life. Everyone I've ever known calls children kids.
Just saying.
Please lighten up!
Doomers bro... Doomers. Maybe check out some data-based descriptions of "society." Try some Steven Pinker. Or just operate based on your feelings of dismay.
Why Pinker?
Which video from steven pinker do you recommend and are you Catholic?
Do you think more souls or less are going to heaven in this day and age, compared to other times in history?
This age is filled with wondrous technology and society for the materialist, but it is not something that fulfills the hunger and thirst that we have for God. I am convinced that, in this day and age, more souls are being lost to eternal damnation than before and that is the condition on which one ought to judge living standards.
He looks nowhere near 85 years old.
Thanks for uploading! I decided after watching this video to put down the meat cleaver and not mutilate my sexual organs this morning!
Well buddy, whatever helps.
That’s a good thing I’d say.
