I had a heart attack Saturday evening, the aorta nicknamed “The Widowmaker” was 99% blocked. While I was at the clinic, I went into cardiac arrest and was clinically dead for two minutes (edited, after seeing my cardiologist and getting the timeline of events from him). I saw no tunnel, no light, didn’t float above my body. I’m laying on a bed in the ICU, as I write this. I have always believed we do have a soul, but I say this as pragmatically as possible…dying isn’t as scary as I thought it would be, because I had no idea it had happened. I spent years worrying about it, and I can say with absolute certainty that it no longer bothers me, because it’s out of my control, so why fret for nothing?

Dam thats crazy, how does the fact you died make you feel? I died too before although totally diffrent I was a IV fentenal user and I was doing my thing one day a saterday as well actually. Anyways lost my needle so started sniffing and all I remember was doing 1 pack like 2pm and this chick gave me some shit from another guy i didnt know, did the 2nd one like 3:30. After that I was gone lights out, although apparently I was actually up and continued to party even though the man inside my head was not dead yet but very quickly fading. I only can recall 2 moments during the process of the overdoes. I called my mom right before the OD happened moments before idk why but I remember her begging me to stop that I didnt sound right then nothing. The second is so vauge and wierd it feels like it was a dream I can barley racall good way to describe it is like i was literally inside my head like my brain had no contact with my body i was only thoughts, I wasnt scared at all by any means no pain just colors blurred colors. Honestly I remember exactly what I said to my self that moment I said "Man my jaw is clenching bad" "my jaw is really tight my teeth shit I musta did too much" soon as I realized I od inside nothing again. Thank the great almighy lord Jesus Christ cus the next thing I remember I hear the girl yelling my name and I sat tf up fast as hell. Out of the 7 people 2 of them only 2 noticed how bad I was before I went into the shower the other 5 they took my wallet while I was receiving CPR, other 2 they apparently pulled me out stark naked I was totally blue and they said I had no heart beat that I went into cardiac arrest. This experience has changed me at the deepest levels, it does bother me because this was totally in my control and preventable. Sober bout 18 months now doing great.

I always thought that a brain is like a radio. If you showed a radio to someone that didn't know anything about modern tech, they would think the radio is responsible for the music, sounds and voices it produces. He can damage the radio and it will stop transmitting, he could take a certain circuit out and the radio's behavior would change, and this would reinforce his ignorance that the radio itself is producing the sounds, voices, and songs. In similar fashion, a brain (any brain, not just. human) is like a tuner on the conscious fabric of the universe.

Since starting to study psychology at uni (specifically the classes about the brain itself and the role of different regions) my more pragmatic side has settled on the brain being akin to a computer and consciousness being like our operating system. (Like windows)
The experience that simply results from all the processes of all the different parts of our brain - put together.
The result of us having all our senses, as well as brain areas involved in logical thinking, emotional processing, reasoning and problem solving and others all wired together.
It’s a bit depressing really cus I also like to think our thoughts and inner world of our minds that we are conscious of are something of a more quantum nature existing on a different plain, in a kind of spiritual way.
It also makes me think Animals are conscious too, and smarter than we give them credit for.

i'm very lucky to be alive after a tragic accident in 2018. i had no chance of surviving. i saw myself a few meters above my body. it was total silence. like i was deaf. everything was black and white, no colors at all. i had no material form. but i could somehow look around. above me was pitch black. i could move my attention around. if i close my eyes and look inside my mind, no matter what i imagine i can't see myself, i have no form. in that state was something similar. it was above me a sphere of light, but with no rays like the sun. when i kept my attention on that light, i felt it was attracting me. i move my attention back to my body and i stop ascending. because i looked at my body for some time, i forgot about the light above me. only when i looked around again i saw it. i was enjoying my life and i wanted to continue. apparently my body was still strong to sustain my life energy and i was sucked back and the feeling was like i went to sleep. i woke up a few days later from coma. 22 surgery to put me back, only one hand and one leg proper function. still in recovery, hope i will walk one day. but that death experience was mind blowing.

Things is - all you see, feel, smell, hear - is basically "simuation" which your brain runs for you. Brain just updates that simulation from sensory inputs but what you "see" is mostly not direct stream from your eyes, but from vast majority model created by brain, which is just updated by "data" from optical nerve.. So.. all those out of body experiences may be jut that due to extreme conditions, brain just messes the model which is presented to you, and shows you your "me" is located at some different place than inside your head ..

@@aleks-wy6uf That comment shows not only your deep lack of understandanding about Tesla's work beyond a bunch of out of context quotes, but also about philosophy and Orthodox theology.
In his later years, his interest on that beyond the physical world only deepend, and his spiritual views started to be more polished. He rejected the modern idea about the Dualism - or dichotomy - of the human being regarding body and soul (the idea that both can be understood as separated phenomena, basically. An assumption that Thoughty is also guilty of) an idea that is no older than Descartes, and has only served to develop the new age culture, evolving in the false notion that somehow one can not study both the natural world and the metaphysical.
Tesla rejected all that, as he viewed that life and soul itself are one with the body, the non physical is there with the physical. There are no ghosts or spirits, or that isolated notion of the paranormal.
These beliefs go in line with Orthodox theology, in fact it is teached in the union of the body and soul, as they are both in one but not one. Interestingly, we know comprehend this in the natural world as well, thanks to quantum mechanics.
Tesla's views were not those of Freeman, we know that for a fact, as Tesla was a believer, and he was not only interested on the community aspect of a congregation but more so in what is happening at Mass. The fact that he was not a believer in the orthodox sense for an Orthodox does not mean he was not a believer.

When you understand you are not the body, thoughts, or person. It opens a reality that has always been, only you’ve been looking right over it (or should I say ‘through’ it) the entire time. What YOU are is deeper than just a conglomeration of thoughts and emotions. You are the one whom is ‘aware’ of these thoughts and emotions.

Perhaps the single most complex and dynamic subject you have ever covered. As humans we were surprised and confused by the "death" of a fellow member of our tribe way back in the 40000 plus BC time frame, although we of course did understand the death of game. We say plants and trees die or shrivel due to drought although we may not have understood the concept of proper nourishment at the time. When it came to Aunt Martha or little Freddie it was another matter as we actually engaged with them, yes even in grunts. When the other person died, we really did not know what to do to get them to respond to us as in the past. Of course, another problem was having a clear understanding of our own eventual mortality. Over time our unique ability to conceptualize tomorrow in addition to the reality of today, unlike all other animals, led us to try to explain the unexplainable: what happens to us when we die: thus, religion and philosophy/theology as tools upon which to construct the explanations.
We FEEL that something animates our activity (walk, talk, think, and so on) but other than blind faith we really don't have much to go on. Near death experiences are all well and good but a good examination by objective science tends to explain these by some physical activity within the brain and good old human imagination again.
It is reasonable to consider the existence of a Creator in view of the size of the universe and certain fundamentals of physics: we have no reason to think that matter can create itself. Who or what the Creator is or could be remains beyond human cognition at this time but that may be because we have not explored any capability we might have regarding extrasensory senses? We have a lot of apocryphal indications we might be able to communicate using some form of thought transference but no insight as to method, at this time. Elon Musk may resolve this issue sooner than we think.
But, if we do have a soul as we traditionally understand this, in other words, human individual consciousness that exists apart from human physical structure, then the next question is what happens to that soul when it departs from the body? The question begs: do all animate life, humans, frogs, trees, fish etc., have the same or even similar animating force or energy or presence or are there various levels of "soul" or force according to the level of sophistication or the entity? Do all of these collected entities pass into another dimension at the moment of physical death of the host? We just do not know. We can hope so, we can attempt to explain what seem to be logical possibilities but in the absence of demonstrated evidence we are left to our own imaginations, and our chosen expression of faith.
Sort of makes all religion-based war seem a bit stupid.

In my experience, the soul is "tethered" to the body, but not necessarily inside it. Astral projection is a repeatable experiment. Many can do it at will. Sadly, possibly because I'm autistic, I'm not one of those people; though I have had a few experiences at random that I can recall. It is said that it happens quite regularly for everyone. It's just that most people don't remember. Just like many don't remember their dreams.

I always found ancient Greek philosophers teachings on the soul very interesting. The most common belief was that soul is something completely different from the body. Philosophers like Pythagoras and Empedocles were strong supporters of that notion and you can see it in ancient Greek belief system in general concerning things like the underworld.
The difference to the more modern approach to the soul being that they didn't acknowledge any connection of the soul to human behavioural patterns . Soul to them was not something that defined a human therefore they didn't attribute any human characteristics to it. They even made connections regarding the soul to animals and plants.
Aristotle on the other hand was many centuries ahead of his time in his beliefs about the soul. He recognised that a soul is the combination of all bodily functions that essentially make it alive.

If the 21.3 grams is accurate it could easily be explained away as the exhaled “last breath” reserves of air in your lungs since they’ll flatten and never refill. Your normal breathing almost never dips you to 0% lung capacity, even when you direly need to breathe (held breath too long, etc) there’s usually a reserve 1-2%. If that is a certain fractional PSI and air pressure is normal couldn’t that be 21.3 grams? The ‘safety air cushion reserve’ I’ll call it

@Muhammad Daanish Shaikh It's a shame that Allah and the other gods only warn some people with a gut feeling, and let the rest that don't have one possibly be maimed or killed.
It's far more likely that people subconsciously pick up on red flags, and some heed the warnings, whilst others succumb to social pressure (e.g.: "don't worry, it'll be fine") and ignore their gut feeling that something is wrong.
Unfortunately, sometimes ignoring a gut feeling is at their peril, and heeding a gut feeling ends up with nothing out of the ordinary happening (often because one's awareness of a human/animal danger can cause the aggressor to choose a different target).

The feeling would vanish at some point, and I couldn't tell you when, or if I just had an anurism and day dreamt it. It was and is real. I was able to experience it on command on mushrooms. Don't do em bla bla. Best decision I've ever made was to eat them though. For me, and for those around me that now benefit from the change it made in me. Some say the "soul" is an emergent property of such a complex system such as the human brain. They can say whatever they'd like. And prove it to themselves beyond a doubt. But I don't listen, I feel. Not just sensations, but emotions. I don't understand why evolution would cause nature to give me that trait. Some of the worst mistakes in my life and history in general were made because of emotion. So not a favorable trait. I'm here, at this moment, leaving this comment. What I believe is probably stupid to most everyone. I feel that I chose to be this person. For one reason or another. I've had a rough life. But as of lately, it's been better and better. And when my experience is over with this "user", it will seem as no time has passed when I snap out of this 3 dimensional human experiment. Next I think I'll try out existing as a 12 dimensional string that helps create gravity in the 6th dimension in order for it to "leak" just enough into my current users dimension to be a stable "universe".

I am a philosopher among other things. The soul has come into my thoughts many times. To define something that we have no way of defining is difficult.
I do believe that more study should go into it. There are other numerous examples out there. Even MacDougall's experiment hasn't been fully tested. Yes there are morals and such out there, but I'm certain a large number of people wouldn't mind these days.
My definition of the soul comes from only what I've learned & understood during my time here. To me it fits with everything, just like the purpose & meaning of life.

Reincarnation is scientifically feasible considering the universe has already demonstrated that it has the ability to create your consciousness. If the universe has created your consciousness once then it may have the potential to do it again. Just depends on underlying mechanics of consciousness, particularly personal consciousness. If science can pinpoint reasons why you are conscious in the body you are currently living in rather than someone else then they may even be able to reincarnate you themselves by triggering your consciousness in a new body. Gods and souls not even necessary.

It's interesting reading about people's near death experiences, from Plato's Er on up to modern times. The similarities described in many accounts make me appreciate the brain for what it very well may be, a reducing valve that prevents us from experiencing all of reality at once. Describing our brain as the soul seems like describing water as "that brass fitting that attaches to the garden hose."

The existance of the soul Can be logicly proven. Every part of your body has changed many Times throughout your life, yet you have a continuous consciousness since your first memories, that implies that it is an entity that exists without any link to a material support, a soul in other words. More than that, if your soul has been known to exist independantly of any material support, there is no reason to think it will cease to exist when your body decays, as near death experiences seem to strongly suggest. You could Ask "how Can we even prove we have a consciousness" but it is a useless question as this consciousness is the very thing you observe the material world with, you thus need no material proof for its existance (nor Can you find any material proof for it)

    • @rowanmurphy5239
      @rowanmurphy5239 2 года назад +2

I like to give people a thought experiment to get them to consider the question.
Imagine I ask you to raise your arm clench your fist and put your arm back down, or to stand on one leg and then the other. Really, I'm asking you to imagine I asked you to do anything that involves articulating any limb in any way.
Now I ask you, how did you do that? You will respond with sometime like "my muscle fibers were caused to contract or to relax depending on the electrical signal sent through my nerves by my brain." But if I keep asking you "what told that part of your brain to do that? And what part of your brain told that part of your brain to do that?" Now imagine that I ask you that question a few more times. Eventually, you will run out of parts of the brain. Eventually we would be left staring at the reality that because the brain is a cause and effect machine, it cannot cause itself to initiate any such sequence.
If we assert otherwise, we have to conclude that everything about us is just the random purposeless and meaningless firing of neurons, which sequence of events was set into motion countless eons ago and nothing has meant anything since the dawn of time. On that model, we have no agency, for we are just the result of chemical and electrical reactions. But that is not consistent with the fact that we do have agency. We do have a will that is in control, not merely of our body, but of our brain. I believe you, the real you, are a spirit in command of a body through a brain, and are not merely a brain in a meat suit.
Combine this with a prayerful reading of Ecclesiastes, which argues that if "life under the sun" is all there is, then all is utterly pointless. Considering this deeply will lead you have an existential crisis on one hand, but the beckoning of God on the other. I would urge you to prayerfully consider this, for I truly believe that we all do know on some level of our being that this life is not all there is and that we are morally accountable for how we've spent it. I would urge you to seek Christ in prayer, for none of us has perfectly kept even the dictates of our own consciences, let alone all that we are morally obliged to keep, and I would inform you that God is wholly and completely committed to giving every deed its just recompense. Therefore, we need the mercy and grace of God through Christ. He kept the law that we broke, and He willingly accepted the penalty for His people's transgressions.
If you have any questions about this, I would be more than happy to answer them. God bless.

All depends on how one defines the word 'soul' (same with 'spirit'). In my personal view, I think of, say, soul music - it's a deep feeling. Deep feelings is how I personally define 'soul'. Spirit - think of the old language. Examples "he's got a mischievous spirit upon him" or "he's in high spirits tonight". I think spirits are moods. In short, souls (feelings) and spirits (moods) do exist but they are not something that lives on after we die - just my beliefs.

I also feel like that. spirit resides inside our heart where emotions emerge from and soul resides inside our brain giving us a personality which directs and utilises the mind to do the specific tasks. Our emotions(pure energy) fuels our desires and willpower to do something and our soul with brain power negotiates with the outer world. Both needed to be in sync with each other or else mind becomes unstable giving rise to multiple personality disorders like i am facing. The heart and crown chakra are the most highest important chakras to be protected and taken care of. It recharges during sleep while connecting to spiritual realm. Now if any of those chakras weakens it creates a loophole for other negative entities to enter through it and getting total control over mind leading to dangerous personalities being created.

Although I am sceptical of life after death, Air Force pilots can experience "Near Death Experiences" when experiencing extreme G forces, ie when the brain is starved of oxygen as per death, but then again you hit the nail on the head with consciousness itself, if we can't explain what constitutes consciousness how can we possible explain what happens when it "ends"?

Proving the existence of the soul is a self-evident process. One can prove it's existence to themselves through practices and experiences, but they can't prove it to others. In fact, if someone is convinced it doesn't exist, nothing a person says will change their mind. Not until they have the telling experiences themselves, and even then they still might doubt.

I'm of the opinion that computers would have no need for consciousness. Humans are only "conscious" because the interweaving of thoughts, feelings, and intellect is (or rather, was) essential for survival. A computer can remember everything, can respond to stimuli at a billion times our rate, has no need for forming bonds with others.
We need to have concept of "me" to better preserve ourselves and to empathise and communicate effectively with other pack members. There's actually a much more fleshed out and complex argument to be made for consciousness being essentially an illusion, but it isn't coming to me and I'd feel silly trying to lay it out anyway given how uneducated I am.

Human lungs contain an average maximum of 6 liters. And since 1 cubic foot of air is the equivalent of just over 28 liters, human lungs contain an average maximum of 0.21 cubic feet of air. Since 1 cubic foot of air weighs nearly 37 grams, the average maximum amount of air the human lungs can contain is therefore around 7.6 grams. Of course, no, a person doesn't normally fill the lungs to capacity with each breath, but probably more like just over half capacity, and thus around 4 grams of air.
When a person dies, this necessarily entails not only the loss of air in the lungs themselves but, as obviously, a rapid depletion of whatever gases remain in the bloodstream. So the question is, on average how many "lungs' worth" of air does the human bloodstream contain? Seems it would have to be significantly more than just one lungs' worth.
Since 4 grams of air on average are lost just in evacuating the lungs, and since death is thought to result in the loss of 21 grams, if the bloodstream does in fact contain roughly 4 lung's worth of air, this would explain that weight loss without having to imagine the attribution of physical mass to a soul.
