Thanks for talking about this topic. I struggle sometimes with my emotions, sometimes it's hard for me to understand the way people experience emotions and vice versa. Sarcasm is a huge problem. Sometimes people don't understand my sarcasm and they think I'm being serious and vice versa.
I didn’t realise that emotions had to do with having dyspraxia. I can’t really understand when people are being sarcastic, only when they make it really blunt. I also can get really emotional when I don’t want to or realise, and people bring it up to me, and I deny them and get even more upset. I also come across as very serious amongst my friends.
When I was younger I couldn't get sarcasm unless someone talked in that really duh obvious sarcastic voice, and I would get upset about jokes too. Now that I'm older I'm better at detecting it. Also, does anyone else with dyspraxia, when they're bored, just kind of stare at the hairs on their arm
i feel emotions really intensely but have learned through watching/observation over time how to navigate social situations much better but it still takes a lot of my energy and i find myself hyping myself up for interactions alot and overanalysing everything. Also no one even knows what it is so its nice to have found people talking about it on youtube!
Had a job that required a uniform and the pants had a slide latch thing instead of a button. You have to get both slide latches hooked at the same time. Took me about 10-15 minutes just to hook the slide latches together. Pissed me off and I just wanted to see a button on the damn pants.
So I’m almost 19 and recently I’ve realised that I don’t understand my emotions most of the time, I don’t understand how I feel and most of the time my friends have to point out the emotions I am feeling and “being obvious about” and I struggle to understand what people are feeling about me I can pick up on peoples emotions that I’m close to other than that I quite often don’t follow. For an instant this boy (my now boyfriend) was apparently being super obvious (and everyone knew) that he liked me and I had no idea, situations like this happen all the time and it messes me up since other times I feel things too much and it can hurt so much
I'm from the United States and went to New Zealand on a work holiday. They have all sorts of different sayings and one in particular "while Bob's your uncle". I took them seriously and said "I don't have any uncle named Bob." They must have thought I was strange.
