  • We got this lifted bus dropped off and had to make it drive. in 4WD. Well we did it. Trent helped. He actually did the entire T-Case. He worked at Border Parts and is a Stud. That's why I let him drive it first. Derek Helped too. We all helped. It was like a school day. Not sure who was the Teacher tho. Check it out..

Sweet! Nice bus, good looks, nice work with the conversion. Always love seeing 4WD buses out there. Doing a 4WD conversion and diesel swap on a 1959 GMC bus, myself.

I'd love to see the video.
Any chance you might use a 2 Stroke Detroit?
Then I'd truly be in love 😍

Unbelievable! Wat cool! I just bought a GMC 7000 series short school bus and want to make this conversion too! Can I see a parts list? :) Is it a 2 1/2 axle set? Whered you get the transfer case? Mines a manual trans. I understand some dump trucks with the same chassis come in 4x4?

This was brought to me with axles mounted. They are deuce and a half. I used a 205 T Case with a drivers side drop I believe. Have to rewatch now to be sure lol. Don’t have a parts list but can answer any questions you have! Your project sounds awesome!

      Howdy,
I'm not 100% sure, but I think they a based on Chevy/GM P series chassis, similar to my 88 Chevy P-32 2 ton US Postal Step Van.
If I'm wrong, someone chime in and lmk.

      I think it’s a mid 90s

@@FastonWheels Thanks, yes, your most likely right. I sometimes don't explain myself very good when posting while half asleep. Lol
I meant based on similar chassis as mine, the P series, as far as I know was produced till 1999. Then was replaced with the Workhorse.
I actually can't remember when the first P Series began production. Do you by chance know? I think someone mentioned 1949??
My 88 has the 6.2 J code diesel and th400 tranny.
I was thinking many years ago about using either a 6.5 OE turbo on it, since I already have everything needed, except the turbo I have needs rebuilding.
Then started thinking 2 KKK or Garrett turbos off a Mercedes om617, 3.0 liter, Inline 5 diesel instead.
Then I got the 'crazy' thought (if money was no object, to mid mount a 53, 71, or 6v92ta two stroke Detroit in it backed by an Allison auto, lol.
      Well it'd be different.
I just might be dreaming and commenting on my sleep,
That sure is a cool, badass bus!

I'm curious to know what anyone thinks about the possibility of using an EZ Trac hydraulic drive front axle on a rear engine school bus or MCI coach bus?
For low speed operation, not for actual off roading but on iffy secondary roads, wet grass or mild boondocking, etc.
I'm wondering if y'all might know if any of their systems or similar companies have front hydraulic drive steer axles that might work, or require minimal to moderate adaptation to set up?
Been curious about this for some time now.
Any comments, tips or advice is much appreciated.
Yes, I know it would be costly.
    Many thanks in advance.

im looking to take a 65/66 pass international bus with DT360A and manual trans and remove the body entirely to use for storage etc... then i desire to take my 83 GMC crew dually 1 ton 3+3 body and mount the cab and bed on the frame, swap in a set of military axles and run flats. shorten the frame of course. big V plow on front, and home made armor.
i know that some busses were built 4x4 from factory, as i saw 2 sitting side by side at a shop in sioux falls back in 2006, they were from a reservation in Arizona according to the markings. .
this will be built to withstand the SHTF that is coming if not in my lifetime then in my sons for sure. im 30 years older than my wife and 60 years older than my son! this is my ONLY CHILD, seems that GOD did not think i was worthy until i was 60 to father a child.
so im looking to buy an early 1990's bus with a DT360 or DT360A engine and manual trans. (just a lot easier to NOT have to swap engines and trans.) obviously the condition of the body is NOT that important to me, as it will be storage or scrap metal.
