I was having so much trouble getting the foil to adhere to the cardstock. You just solved my problem -- no carrier sheet! I am pretty new to this hobby (everyone over 70 needs to find a new interest) and you have proved to be a wonderful teacher. Thank you so much, Jennifer!
Just wanted to say this video is VERY helpful. I have been youtube'n all kinds of 'how to' and craft stuff lately.. its going on two weeks of non stop rabbit hole click-a-thons... and yours is the most clear, concise, straightforward forward, and helpful. The organization of it, the list of materials you provide.. everything. It's spectacular. Too many folks are wasting time, like to hear themselves speak, and just go on and on with bs.. NOT you. It is a ray of sunshine in a tedious yt world. thank you for your input here!
I was steered to this video after watching your current foiling technique video using stamps, clear embossing, and a laminator. All the card are just absolutely gorgeous Jennifer. I spend more time watching you show me how to do stuff than I actually implement the techniques. I keep buying all the stamps, dies, inks, powders, etc. and don't get around to using them. I have decided I am a "stamping collector". You have the best videos. I am hard of hearing but I can hear you very clearly without having to use a headset. You are the best and I thank you for all the sharing of your talent. You are a very special woman.
I watched Paper Wishes video yesterday and they used a foam piece that had sticky on it and just peeled back or cut the paper from the part they wanted to foil and just rubbed it and lifted the foil off and voila! You can use one color for flowers and one color for the leaves. It looks easy to do! Mercy! RUclips is breaking my piggy bank! Thank you for your time!! And still free!!
Love watching all your foiling videos. Really been helpful. I thought I might warn people to check to insure you can unscrew and open your laminator before attempting to skip a carrier. I have a now 25 year old Pro pouch laminator that I once inserted without thinking five 100 dollar bills to crisp up and iron. Bank didn't have 5 new ones for a Wedding gift from the company. Anyway long story short took me over 3 hours to find a long skinny philips screw driver to reach the screws to open it up and retrieve the money it ate. The fist two came out just like your demonstration today without a carrier. BUT it ate the next 3 and worse I had decided once through why not twice and it ate them too while I was waiting for the next three to come out. So not all laminators are safe without a carrier. Mind you I also found that the original carriers that are rather heavy cardstock with some kind of almost wax like coated interior works best with toner foiling lamination with this machine. My machine has a means to increase and decrease temperatures. I find the setting I use for most 5ml laminations is ideal for toner foiling. But I had trouble with three different carriers I made for foiling. First failure was a smooth thick laser paper which got all wavy as a carrier when heated. The next was plain paper and it did better but not great at foiling itself. Next was Minc's brand of acrylic like clear carrier sheets you can buy on Amazon in several sizes and packages. It just seemed to cause moisture to come out of the paper/cardstock being foiled? To be fair I was running a personal small area humidifier due to winter allergies at the time. So since then I cut off the humidifier for 2-3 days in advance of foiling projects with the laminator.. I haven't tried folding a piece of parchment paper but feel it might do better than anything else I made myself to try. I have seen over the years occasional moisture build up when laminating so I've learned to avoid humid days but NW MT in winter is usually the opposite thus the humidifier. But possible my paper supplies absorb more than I would have imagined or thought would happen. I'm still in learning curve mode. I loved all my projects with toner lamination I've done so far. I used a generic toner/textile foil from a bundle off Amazon their rainbow and results were very good. But I also ordered a dozen rolls of H&H sign companies textile foils which are great prices a 12" x 25 foot roll plain is under 8 dollars. Their 12" x 25 foot roll of prints or textures extra fancy is under 13 per roll. I bought 12 total rolls my first order and they sent free shipping. They do have a minimum free shipping break point but not clear it was applied to this foil. I don't believe I made that as they are a professional supply center not just for hobby and crafting supplies like many of us use mainly for our media and materials. But their tiny star textures are the bomb so wonderful. I did a whole toner sheet as an experiment. Half in H&H's blue flower and the other in light green stars and then used dies to cut out shapes and cards. I made two thank you cards from the blue. Paper was strong plastic like and cut beautifully through the Platinum 8.5 machine I choose to die cut with. I then made over 60 double sided round tags for a friend who makes sock gnomes in more than half a dozen designs on each side. I printed via toner laser printer and used the same foils for text and graphic side alike. They were really lovely. All my dies were thin or thinlit styled. Will be making three new tags for another friend who's into yarn work and loves Boston Bulldogs and have the graphics worked up so plan to make Solid PINK foiled Bostons/Frenchies and use several different shades of pink to find the right fit. I can leave text bar in white print below dog lay out with ladies name but in matching pink so the print will be in white if I use White cardstock. I tried so far in 65# and 85# super smooth white cardstock straight through pass on older Brother small laser printer bought just for this work primarily. And it so far is great. My head starts swimming with foiling projects and oh my keeping it all straight. I've got lots of sterlite drawers to keep all the different styles of foils organized and apart so not to mix it up. I've been enjoying the Go Press foiling too for my tiny note pad projects. That uses the foil shown here today. That foil does not work well with toner/lamination techniques. I think that's right. So far I have 4 different foils I'm playing with and numerous technques. Toner/textile/fabric foils, the Go Press and freestyle hot pen foils are the same as are these today on this video, Then I have Iron on fabric vinyl foils to die cut out and use for backs of faux leather earrings and finally adhesive vinyl foils that are for flat nonporous applications like travel mugs and ceramics with & without epoxy finishes. All foils can be used in other unique ways but not all foils work the same way across the board. Today I'm going to give this stamp with embossing ink & powders with lamination method a try. I found it fascinating to say the least. Also I'm making cheater cards to slip into the drawers with each type of foil to remind me what works and sometimes what doesn't too. There is so many ways to go. Stay safe everyone but have FUN.
I could just listen to you all day...can't wait to try this technique again! First tried it about 10 years ago when I was first introduced to stamping however I was never sucessful, the tool I had to use was a heat pen which didn't lend itself to stamping, it was what one could draw, trace or write. Thank you...until next time 😊💕
I think I am now addicted to foil also. Have been to the stores several times to get supplies, got my laminating machine like yours, and am ready to go. I love all the things you do, and this is especially special.
So, four years later ... thanks for this video! I had no idea I could run my project with foil through the laminator without a sleeve!!!! Worked perfectly :)
I was able to stamp my image with versa mark, cover the image with clear embossing powder, place the foil over the image, and then running it through my laminator without first melting the embossing powder. I found my card stock would warp every time I heat set the embossing powder. But sending it through my laminator allowed the embossing powder to melt and cause the foil to stick at the same time. I had to make 50 invitations and this saved a LOT of time! I love this technique!
Jennifer your so good with the foiling and thank you so much for doing all the experimenting for all of us. You save us money and work. lol. Love these cards and you've done your work well. Thank you for all these tips... love it...yeah and it's great pat
I have watched several of your videos on foiling and have wanted to give it a try for some time. I finally got out my laminator and got some foil and gave it a shot...loved it! I have a laser printer and it works amazingly well, as you have shown on your other videos. One thing I did, which also worked out well, and I wanted to pass along, is that I stamped my image in black, scanned and copied it on my laser printer. This way I was able to used some of my stamped images. I was able to print 4 of my images, or layouts (4.25 x 5.5) on an 8.5 x 11 sheet. I could print several sheets if I want and then trim them down and foil. It was so fast and easy! Thanks for another fun and fabulous technique, Jennifer!
Glad I found this video!!! Hubs gave me some deco foil for christmas and had no clue how to use it. He thought I could use it on cricut. Yay thanx for sharing
I realize you made this video almost 5 years ago, but I was searching out foiling techniques - as I don’t foil that often and definitely needed a refresher tutorial. This video is as pertinent today as it prbly was when you made it. THANK YOU! You are a rockstar of card making - and I appreciate all you do! I think this video is one worth re-posting and sharing again for all our crafty friends, as it’s a really awesome technique! Crafty hugs and wishing you and your family, and everyone else, safety and well-being during this horrible time (pandemic). x o
I bought a hot foiling press machine and no mater what I do I don't get the results I expected . I wish I had seen your video before I spent all that money. I am looking forward now to top notch foiling thanks to you. What great demos .
Jennifer you are a Genius! I tried all this sticky-powder stuff and it was very tricky to get a good result. One time I was using an iron to make it work and I was thinking about the laminator, but I didn´t had the ¨gutts¨ to do it like you.... brave Girl!! Thank you so much for trying and sharing with us, be blessed and go on! (... and I still wonder why some give a thumbs down for this?.... Maybee people who still want to sell the sticky-powder-stuff.. lol?)
I just got my laminator in the mail yesterday and am expecting my foil on Monday. Can hardly wait to try these techniques. Thank you for figuring out ways to do foiling using stamps, laser printers and inexpensive laminating machines. You are so creative and innovative and if I could only follow one paper artist it would be you.
Several years ago there was a craze on foiling. I had a lot of the foils but I don't know what happened to them. Moral? Never throw anything away!!! I definitely have a laminator so I will have to buy some foil and try this out. I can't remember how it was done before, definitely not with a laminator, but I do remember rubbing on the foil and getting mediocre results. Your way is just fabulous. Thank you so much.
WOW Your cards all are Gorgeous!! It was fun watching you in creative action this foiling no matter how it's done is so fascinating. I'm glad that you through your journey of all kinds of different ways to foil that this one was a huge success for you. Loved what you created you definitely had fun and thanks for bringing the fun to all of us. YOU so ROCK!! Joan Smith
Awesome video Jennifer. I just got my Minc. Haven't used it yet. Your cards turn out simply beautiful. Thanks for taking your time to make this video. It is very much appreciated.
Jennifer, you are the best. I received some loose foil sheets in a card kit I recently got and had NO idea what to do with it. Having been away from papercrafting for a number of years this is a new technique for me. Finding this video makes it very clear! Thank you so much!! I knew I would love it, I just had to figure out what to DO with it!
Over the past few weeks I have discovered your RUclips channel, and I have had a blast learning many different techniques, I have to say, these foil backgrounds, tone on tone, are probably the most amazing thing I have ever seen. Brilliant, thanks so very much for all you do. I am truly inspired. God Bless Karla
Jennifer, I didn't have a machine like you did this, but when you mentioned an iron, I thought, Oh, I have a little iron from Heidi Swapp! So I did the 1st one, not good, melted most of the foil onto the paper. Then I used the only detail embossing powder I had, w/c was black. The tried it w/out moving the iron across it, just up and down to cover the image, Used silver foil and it worked!!! That's Jennifer for all your great videos you do for us!!!
I was given a big stack of these foils many years ago but had no idea what you did with them. I have just been hanging on to them hoping one day to find out and here you are! Thank you I can make good use of them now!
Hello Jennifer, thank you so much for sharing this technique ( after you had destroyed so many foils, ideas and times). I have one embossing powder , which I don't like and used it just once ( after purchase). Now I can use it with the foils! Works superbly. No waste. So glad you came up with this idea. Eva
Jennifer; Thank You soooo much for teaching us how to foil all these different ways of foiling. You have given me confidence to do it now!! Thanks again!!
Jennifer, I've been doing heat-embossed foiling slightly different. I stamp the image with VersaMark, add the fine embossing powder, cover it with the foil and send it through the laminator. The image doesn't "flatten out" if I don't melt the embossing powder first. And it saves a step in the process!
I can't wait to try your foiling techniques, looks so special I've been stamping over 10 yrs., never get tired of it. Love your instructive videos. Dot Tucker
This is awesome! I didn't know anything about working with foil. This is the first time I've ever seen it ...... love the affect you got using foil with the laminator. WOW!
Hello Jennifer, hope all is well. Thank you for the product placement in your demonstration video. We hope you enjoyed using our Royal Sovereign products.
My husband was listening in the background and said, "Uh oh, is that another machine you'll have to have?" I told him that at least I already had the stamps you used. ;)
Carol Melancon I think Jennifer is making stores all over the country sell out of their laminators from watching that video. Next will be laser printers!
you don't have to own a laser printer, go to staples and use theirs. BW is all you need, put 2 or 4 images on a letter size sheet and copy it ,or print digitally (you will probably need a pdf file for their printers to work) . you can add the foil anytime and run it thru laminator and you never have to buy costly toner cartridges.
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. I was a little bummed to think that I needed a laser printer in order to use my laminator for foiling. Thank you for showing this technique. (6 years later) lol
Thank you for expanding the use of the laminater! I always thought you had to use laminated sheets! Eureka! Thank you! I can now experiment without causing a fire! Appreciated!
Love this! I am so glad that i can try this technique without having to buy a laserprinter or driving somewhere to pay them for the prints! Your card creation in this video is beautiful and eye catching!
Now that I nailed down the other foil you taught with the digital image...and loved it...going to do this too. They are simply beautiful with stamps. So good to know another way to use foil. Thanks so much. And, Happy Happy Easter Joy to you and your family!
Yay! Thanks for all your trial and error in discovering this technique. I've been (not so) patiently waiting for this video and I'm super excited to get into my craft room tonight to try it out. Thank you!
this video was awesome. I did the digital stamp thru the laser printer and it worked perfect. Will give this one a try too. Thanks so much for experrimenting and sharing your results. Awesome gorgeous looking cards.
This looks great! After doing the background, if you put clear embossing powder all over another piece of card, ran it through with the same piece of foil you should get the negative image of the stamp from what was left of the foil . . . worth a try.
Thanks for this video! My passion is color and foiling is absolutely beautiful color! I used to do some foiling (years ago) using a laser jet printer. I'm happy the technology is much easier now. I just love those cards; so simple but yet so elegant! Thank you Jennifer! PS: My eye also caught the clearance sale on the foils at Michaels. I'm glad I didn't get sucked into that one; tho' I was very tempted!
Thank you so much for sharing the laser print technique. I am very addicted to this and just tried multi color peacock using the same laser print. It came out beautiful. I look forward to your videos!
Jennifer, I just want to thank you so much for doing this kind of comparison!! You save us so much time and waste and thankfully give us the tips and techniques we most need. LOVED the turquoise and silver ones too!!! Fabulous results! Can't wait to see what you say about Heidi's machine too. Otherwise am off to buy a laminator straight up! ;)
More beautiful products (and a pretty cool technique) to add to my growing craft supplies arsenal! Beautiful cards, Jennifer! I've seen another video where you use this laminating machine. Amazing that it works so well for about $20. So looking forward to trying this! Thanks!!!
Great way to use the foil. I purchased this at CHA. So happy to see this technic. I purchased a laser printer so that I could use the foil for cards but this is better for people without the printer. Can't wait to share.
Amazing as always! You're videos are always so incredibly helpful with clear instructions and great tips even for seasoned card makers. You always teach us so much! Your videos and VoiceOvers are always so perfect and don't even get me started on your cards.... I would be so lost without your channel. Thanks so much for all you share with us! We are so lucky to have you. I wish I loved near you and could craft with you. I'm so jealous and wish we were friends but not in a stalkerish kinda way. Don't worry. Ha ha. Thanks again!
These cards are SO beautiful +Jennifer McGuire Ink!! I've got all the tools...just need the foil...and will try this technique! Love these cards! Thank you for sharing!! :)
well done video. I knew you could use embossing powder. I had purchased a kit once that had the foils and the powder with it for the same methodology. Thanks, your creations are inspiring
Wow!! Just awesome! I have all the needed tools so I'm going to totally try this technique today. I've been having a hard time with the foil/toner technique so I'm really excited about this. Thank you so much for sharing.
I really like your technique for this. I can't wait to try it. I already have a great assortment of Thermoweb foils and am anxious to give them a try. Great idea. Thanks for all of your RUclips videos. Keep them coming!
I was having so much trouble getting the foil to adhere to the cardstock. You just solved my problem -- no carrier sheet! I am pretty new to this hobby (everyone over 70 needs to find a new interest) and you have proved to be a wonderful teacher. Thank you so much, Jennifer!

I just bought my Boyfriend a laminator for Christmas and was looking for an excuse to use it myself. So grateful for your comment. :)

I love the look with the laminator. Great idea!
This is awesome, you really are queen of techniques. The background stamped on coloured card looks like really expensive luxury card.

Stunning Jennifer. As always, so many tips and showing us different results for different techniques. You're amazing. TFS.
Eva
Jennifer;
Thank You soooo much for teaching us how to foil all these different ways of foiling.
I can't wait to try your foiling techniques, looks so special I've been stamping over
10 yrs., never get tired of it. Love your instructive videos. Dot Tucker
Jennifer I love every technique you come up with on here. Amazing work and I love this foiling. Keep them coming.
Jennifer, love the fold technique!!! Please show more.
6 year old video...im still learning...so beautiful
My husband was listening in the background and said, "Uh oh, is that another machine you'll have to have?" I told him that at least I already had the stamps you used. ;)
Carol Melancon hahaha
Carol Melancon I think Jennifer is making stores all over the country sell out of their laminators from watching that video. Next will be laser printers!
you don't have to own a laser printer, go to staples and use theirs. BW is all you need, put 2 or 4 images on a letter size sheet and copy it ,or print digitally (you will probably need a pdf file for their printers to work) . you can add the foil anytime and run it thru laminator and you never have to buy costly toner cartridges.
That sounds familiar.
Lol
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. I was a little bummed to think that I needed a laser printer in order to use my laminator for foiling. Thank you for showing this technique. (6 years later) lol
Great technique & love the finished product! Thanks for sharing you take all the hard work out of it for your followers (subscribers)!!!
Ah, just gorgeous Jennifer! Thanks for sharing the beautiful cards! Have a very blessed craftin' day! Sheryl
Wow, Jennifer, super cool technique. I just bought several deco foil tubes today at Michael's for $1.79 each on clearance. Woo Hoo!
Those only have one sheet in them. Fyi. The price linked about is better!
Jennifer McGuire Ink I did not realize there was only one sheet per tube. Disappointed in Michael's. =/
gorgeous cards. always want to see more from you...thanks for sharing your talent
Awesome! Thanks for this. I have not been having very good luck with foiling. Will try this method.
OH MY GOSH! Those cards are absolutely beautiful! I fell like I just came out from under a rock! I have not done cards with foil. Beautiful Jennifer!

I love this. Heading out to go get some foil. It was on clearance at Hobby Lobby yesterday. Thank you Jennifer.
WOW! speechless
i have to try this, now we can use all of our beautiful stamps for foiling👏
this video was awesome.
Love, Love Love your videos! I guess I'll be making a stop at Michael's tomorrow! Thanks for sharing Jennifer!
That was awesone! The cards look great with the foil..thank you for dojng all that experimenting for us so we get the best tutorial!!
Thank you, gotta try this. I picked up a laminator on clearance for $6.00 at Staples. I hope it works. Love the backgrounds.

Great way to use the foil. I purchased this at CHA. So happy to see this technic. I purchased a laser printer so that I could use the foil for cards but this is better for people without the printer. Can't wait to share.
